Explain why???????????????????
 
Someone explain why an AI race will colonize a planet with 0% minerals,and then build loads of mineral extraction factories on it???????????????????????????????????????????????? ?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ??????????????????????????????

Can't we just let the AI use monoliths from the start? I'm getting tired of no competition. I hope the next patch gives us a decent AI.

No, you see the plan is to build lot's of mineral miner facilities, and then scrap them for the minerals. It all makes perfect sense if you just think it all the way through.....

Emperor Zodd:

First: If you haven't modified the default/Specific AI_Planet_Types file since the patch then you will get this happening. If you modify that text file as seen in Last weeks Posts (can't remember the topic) the chance of that happening will dramatically decrease.

Second: If you haven't modified the default/Specific AI_Construction_Facilites file since the patch then you will have the ai build a load of miners without ever trying to build system wide modifications or a host of other facilities that arrive in the late game.

Third: I personally have not figured out how to get the AI to build monolith facilities. If any can tell me I would appreciate it.

I'm using the popular mods. Why doesnt someone post a mod to fix this problem?

What exactly needs to be changed?

Now remember these are for the default ai. What these files do is raise the requirement to colonize a planet as a mining planet. It also leaves room on the larger planets so upgrades and later\better facilities and can still fit on the ai's older planets. With the vacant space this doesn't hinder the ai's production from what I have seen. And the reason why people haven't made changes yet is because they are in the process right now or they are waiting for the next patch. I would like to hear what you think of these files. Hope this helps.

The computer only builds monolith facilities on a farming colony if its monolith facilities produce more organics than its organic farms. Since organic farm 3s produce more organics than monolith facility 3s, this almost never happens (although in a no-warp-point game the computer researches stellar manip early, so it does happen). The same is true for mineral miners and radioactive extractors.

If you edit the config files so that monolith 3s produce more than 1000 of each resource type, then in the late game the computer will build lots of monolith 3s (and never build the resource-specific facilities again).

If you are talking about my files, I've combined the shipyards and military installation together. The military base builds a shipyard, some cargo containers, fleet training, planet shields, intelligence facilities, maybe some mining facilities and some null and space defenses against those weapons.

Will the AI make 30% mining,and 15% organics and radioactive colonies????

I always have very few organics followed closely by radioactives.
I always have tons of mining followed by research and then military.

Shouldnt the AI use the same percentage as I do?

In the overal grand scheme of things the ai should build 30% mining and 15% organics and radioactives. No the ai has their on files and only builds\does\acts\fights what the ai text files tell it to do. I changed these files so the ai would act more human, by building smarter.

I'm using my mod,which uses 1-10 planet systems.

The AI is currently setup for just a 9 planet systems.

How will the AI know what to build with a low planet system?

AI State := Exploration, Infrastructure, Prepare for Attack, Attack, Secure Holdings After Attack, Incursion, Prepare for Defense, Defend (Short Term), Defend (Long Term)
Planet Type := Mining Colony
Max Per System := 2
Percent of Colonies := 30
Minimum Planet Size for Type := Tiny
Mineral Value := 120
Organics Value := 0
Radioactives Value := 0
Maximum Total in Empire := 2

Wouldn't this limit only 2 mining colonies to your empire,and also prevent using a planet under 120 for minerals?

Change the 2 at the bottom of your file to zero. And if you want change the 120 to 110 if you want.

You have to make sure that the value is over 101. In a post Last week this was stated. I'm at work right now and edited that Planet_types file at work so I could give you the files. It looks like I went to fast. The other two files I already had on disk. Thank you for pointing it out to me, let me know if there is anything else. Thanks for the response.

This is the culprit in the original file.
This must ensure that the first 2 colonies made are mining no matter what!

AI State := Exploration, Infrastructure, Prepare for Attack, Attack, Secure Holdings After Attack, Incursion, Prepare for Defense, Defend (Short Term), Defend (Long Term)
Planet Type := Mining Colony
Max Per System := 100
Percent of Colonies := 100
Minimum Planet Size for Type := Tiny

I rewrote the AI to fight better in battle.
Now I'm going to work on the AI's colonizing from scratch to mimic me. Then I will test it.

Emperor/SunDevil: don't forget that races using crystal or temporal techs need more radioactives than other races; and (obviously) organic tech races need more organics than other races. Not sure about psychic or religious techs, I've never used them (nor have I faced them in battle yet)...
