Next Patch?
Between range error checks, and the my games getting toasted I'm not impreesed. When can we expect the next patch? And will it fix these problems? Think I'll wait 'till then to play again as right know SEIV is just fustrating.

Re: Next Patch?
They are working on it. We just got a download for the beta testers to work with today. MM is aware of the problems and is working on them. Please remember, if you find a bug or have a problem, send it to them so that they can address it.
They really are trying to put the best possible product out to all of us. No just good enough, but the best. |

Yes, and it shows in the way they respond to the customers comments and request! http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif I was very happy to see that one of the changes that I lobbied for and supported was included in the 1.11 patch. Something else that I mentioned that I'd like to pass along to y'all....PLEASE include a list of which Data Files have been altered with new Patch items. There are ALOT of Data Files (especially once you get into the individual AI files for 20 races) and trying to go through them all to see if anything has been changed is a mindblowing task. A simple listing of the files that have any changes from the previous build could go a long way towards saving the sanity of those of us who have heavily customized our sets. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif Thanx! Re: Next Patch?
Danny how are you getting range check errors ? What happens ? In the beta i've only gotten them under very specific circumstances so maybe it is something you can avoid. By the way, MM did 17(!) patches on SE3 if I remember right, not because it was overly buggy but because people asked for them.

Re: Next Patch?
I got the error when I set the max. system to 255, changed it down to 200 and it works fine, even in my current game with 255 systems.

Re: Next Patch?
I'm just a beta tester, not an employee of either company. Check the history file in your game whenever you put a patch in. The changes are in the history file.

Yep, I knew you were a tester, so I just figured that maybe you could pass it along with your testing suggestions/comments. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif The 'History' File indeed lists all the changes, but not WHERE they were changed. Some are obvious data tweaks, but things like 'AI was getting way to fast...fixed' could be anywhere, including in code that we dont have access to. So, my suggestion was just to provide a list of exactly which files had alterations so that a 'file compare' can be done on them to add the changes to existing data sets. Without that list, we are forced to do a compare on EVERY file that we have altered, regardless of whether a change was made there or not, just to be sure. The reason I mentioned it here is that I figure that since MM is pretty much a one man show, that it might be easier to fit this request in through one of the already established testers. Thanx, Talenn |
Re: Next Patch?
I support Talenn's suggestion 100%. It would spare the modding community a whole lot of headache each time a new patch is released.

Re: Next Patch?
Danny-That's an easy one. I posted the problem around the very first days of release. Anytime you go over 254 systems max you get weird results. I know it says 255 is the max but if you want to finish your game never go over 254, problem solved.

Adamus, If that's the case, then Malfador has sure backed up their claims of listening to players, and then some! That lends an air of serene expectation to see what good things get done next, rather than desperately hoping that problems get fixed before the company loses interest, as was the unfortunate case with some other recent 4X games (Birth of the Federation springs to mind, as does Imperium Galactica II). Re: Next Patch?
I started getting range check errors also. I had seen a comment in one of the forums that after a race was used too many times it could cause this. I got the error on starting the games about 45% into the player placement phase. I had my systems set at 200 I toned it down to 150 but I still got the error at every start up. So I deleted that saved race and all my saved games and so far it hasn't happened again. All my other saved races seem to work fine but even saving the "bad" race under another file name didn't correct the problem. I had played at least 6 or 7 games using that race before with no problems. And I hadn't saved it again since the first time I created it, just reused the same starting file because of the bug that causes all the planets to show as colonizable if you have ships from the saved empire that can colonize them even if you can't build the ships because you have innsuficient technology.
I wish that would change because I would like to see if a high experience point total does give you bonuses. Also and maybe this is one of the bonuses I have seen that sometimes I get a much higher population growth rate for similar planets in different games even with the same saved empire. I always take the 10% bonus to population growth and most games I get around 35%-37% growth with a jubilent population but sometimes I get as high as 45% even on unpleasant worlds. |
Re: Next Patch?
B/T/W just got a response from Aaron on my compiled bugs/questions/wish-list item and he indicated that they are working on the next patch - with an anticipated release date of mid-December!!

Re: Next Patch?
Regarding bugs I have found a problem in a newly started PBEM game with simultanous turns.
We are ten human players, no computer opponents, and after generating the first turn one of the players noted that his orders had not been executed. He had mailed the the file to the host (me) and I am absolutely certain all order files had been put into the correct folder before I started the turn generation. Another player found his production changed from a colony ship to a space station. Has anyone else seen such a thing? |
Re: Next Patch?
Dime, I have seen a spacestation I built be replaced with a design and racial pic of another player. But this was in 0.99 demo and the game worked fine after that one problem. The host reported it I think.

Re: Next Patch?
I agree with Talenn's comment below regarding more detail on the history. However, in the meantime I am just visually comparing the files dates of the "old Version" with the new one. I print the directory with full details using winzip or some other archive program and then compare the dates of the files I have changed (and backed up) with the new ones.

Re: Next Patch?
Dime,
Simultanous movement games are stil buggy, but should be ok using purchased Version with current patch. We still working on it. ------------------ Seawolf on the prowl |
Re: Next Patch?
Will the next patcj "only" correct bugs and add some new features or will it also improve AI behaviour ? The latter is IMHO by far the biggest nuisance to SE4 playing fun. Actually , as far as I am concerned, despite already great features, SE4 is quite boring right now with the AIs being complete idiots

Re: Next Patch?
Jowe,
Did you adjust the AI settings in the begining of the game? ------------------ Seawolf on the prowl |
Re: Next Patch?
Them fixing the three hour AI turn bug would be nice.

Re: Next Patch?
Yes, I did adjust the AIs in the beginning of the game. Maximum difficulty, maximum advantage. Furthermore, I gave everyone 5000 points, but for my own race I used only 2000 of them. Still, the AI is a pushover. It basically does rarely attack you. If it does, it does so in a stupid, inconsequent manner. It never follows up on an initial attack. It does not correspond to obvious threats/provocations (like my fleet moving into its territory, me attacking its allies, me establishing strongholds in its territory).
I hope that the AI will be drastically improved in the next patches. Otherwise, replayability value would quickly descend to zero, and that would be a pity for this otherwise very rich game. |
