Buying SEIV from the UK?
Has anybody from the UK managed to buy this game yet? What do Shrapnel charge for the shipping cost?
I saw the post as Malfador showing the official UK distributor but I am reluctant to buy from them. Firstly because their shopping cart is a horrible Java applet and secondly because they are using a straight ?for $ conVersion rate (ie ?9.99). Are there any other UK distributors? Thanks, gecko [ 26 March 2002: Message edited by: gecko ]
|
Re: Buying SEIV from the UK?
Me, I did! From Strategic Plus Software - www.strategic-plus.co.uk
email - enquiries@strategic-plus.co.uk Total (inc V.A.T. + postage) = £41.49 A bit much if you ask me but, as they say on earth - c'est la vie |
Re: Buying SEIV from the UK?
Also, I was put off by the shopping cart too, but when the game arrived, the invoice was all very official, I checked the address and phone number they gave me and they check out.

Re: Buying SEIV from the UK?
Thanks for taking the time to reply!
I am sorely tempted but that is a lot of money, more than I have ever paid for a game (in fact £19.99 is usually my limit nowadays). Also, I have to be honest, it really annoys me when a product costs the same in pounds as it does in dollars. It would be great if Shrapnel could get a distribution deal with the retail chain 'Game' or an equivalent... gecko P.S. (offtopic) I went to the Game website and also Electronics Boutique and they are running virtually identical shopping carts. Are they the same company? (ontopic) ...neither knew anything about SE http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif [ 27 March 2002: Message edited by: gecko ]
|
Re: Buying SEIV from the UK?
...also, this high cost for us Brits makes my question "Multiplayer on LAN using CD?" (on this forum, a few topics down) even more important.
I did look on Malfador's Q&A first, honest! gecko [ 27 March 2002: Message edited by: gecko ]
|
Re: Buying SEIV from the UK?
I bought mine direct from Shrapnel. It came to about 40 something quid (Shipping included). Sure, it's a lot of dosh but you get good mileage out of that - I haven't really played another game all year. If I were to calculate SE4's cost per hour of entertainment it has given me then it would probably be practically freeware.
And yes, Game and EB are owned by the same parent company. |
Re: Buying SEIV from the UK?
I bought direct from Shrapnel as well.
Shipping is way too expansive, I would't mind waiting for couple weeks if shrapnel used cheaper service. [ 27 March 2002: Message edited by: oleg ]
|
Re: Buying SEIV from the UK?
Chips and Bits offers cheaper shipping.
it has more to do with lost packages than with offering a cheaper service.
quote:
Originally posted by oleg: I bought direct from Shrapnel as well. Re: Buying SEIV from the UK?
I reckon I could fly to the states, buy 100 copies and flog them back here for a small profit to cover my air fare http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon6.gif

Re: Buying SEIV from the UK?
I can't see the UK shipping cost on the Shrapnel site. Could anyone please let me know what it is?
I have three friends interested in joining me in a game so I might be ordering four copies - is the shipping cost per order or per copy? I know I can order from the UK distributor but as discussed, I am not paying 160 UK pounds for four copies! gecko |
Re: Buying SEIV from the UK?
Yeah, I would like to know this. Another question, has any Brit out there who has ordered SEIV classic or SEIV gold ever been sent a letter by FedEx wanting £10 in import duty - I bought SEIV Last year and it cost me close on £55 what with shipping and import duty
It is one of the reasons why I am being put off gold |
Re: Buying SEIV from the UK?
I received my copy by Global Priority Mail -
it is USA Federal Mail service, completely unrelated to Federal Express. There were no duty on the shipping. Don't remember exact shipping cost, but it was around £10. |
Re: Buying SEIV from the UK?
Oleg, how did you use that service?
I just checked on the Shrapnel website again and the only shipping option I can see is the $19 fedex one |
Re: Buying SEIV from the UK?
I don't know - I just ordered in Shrapnel and
it came via Global Priority Mail. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif I remember Richard mentioned that all shipping outside USA is made this way, and FedEx inside USA. May it was indeed $19 ( £15 ). But I am asolutely sure there were no extra charges by customs. |
Re: Buying SEIV from the UK?
Stategic Plus are my local shop (about 1/2 mile away). They are a specialist computer wargames supplier. They tend to be a little expensive but have always given good advice. I buy from them because of the advice and the 'support the little guys' thing. Worth the cost of a pint every now-and then.
I must admit I have not bought SE4 gold yet because i was a little offended by the £ to $ straight conVersion. But sooner or later i will crack. |
