Mission Walk Thrus and Help Thread

Many of the Beta testers have inside information that many of you will want to tap. Tricks of the trade and ways around problems. When you get your game, and we all know you have pre-ordered it by now, you will run into a few situation where you will need to come here and ask for help.

I can tell you that I ran into a few problems along the way and many of us ran into the same problems. They were not really problems, but rather tricky and complex missions that often required a bit of fore thought and study to accomplish.

What do you mean I didn't protect that ship? Its still in one peace is it not? Oh the memories of that escort mission. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Trust me, you will find out.

At any expense, I hope you have pre-ordered this great game from Malfador and are eagar to play it as I was when I first got it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif If you have not pre-ordered, you should do so before the game sells out. Remember what happened with SEIV in the early days?

You're quite a salesman, Atrocities. I was goikng to wait to see the demo, but then I read your post and went ahead and ordered SF. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif

Now, about that insider info. When you take your ship into the Nybor Dust Cloud, what kind of shields do you need to stop the radiation damage? And how do you punch through the Krendolian ship armor? And where is the hidden planet Schmoo?

Heh, don't worry. If I buy a pitch from a salesman and later find I don't like what he was selling, I can only blame myself for buying it.

You still haven't answered my questions... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Re: Mission Walk Thrus and Help Thread

I'll read a review and decide whether I want that game or not. But sometimes, no matter what, I just have to have that game (or expansion set, like the Play the World for Civ3). Sometimes I want the game and the hardware requirements are too much. Even though I got an upgraded computer, there are still a couple of games I can't play. Not much I can do about that but hope to win the lottery and get a new computer. But word of mouth (or posting?) is good too, unless it's from a store salesman who's just trying to get you to buy a game. Just recently, i bought Hearts of Iron, which got a good review but the reviewer said it was a very complex game and not for a casual war gamer. But I took the plunge after the game went down in price and found it a very good game, but still complex. Thank God for the forum board.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I am glad you bought the game, but please don't do it on my account. I like the game and would like to see other enjoy and like it too. Everyone has likes and dislikes.

I like a lot of what the game has to offer. I once bought a couple of games based on reviews and players Posts. One was System Shock, the Civ 3. One was great, the other was marginally ok. Simply put I don't want to get blamed if for some odd reason some one does not like the game. I would feel poorly that they bought it based upon what I said.

I do like the game and I would buy wether I was a beta tester or not.

want a hammer so you can wack atrocities?

is it possible to just buy and sell stuff without having to go through the guild's?

OK, first bug: moon names don't always display.

STRONGLY suggested feature: ships your supposed to escort tell you where they are, so you don't have to spend all your escort time looking and default because you can't find them!

Um yeah. Didn't you? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

Hidden Secret Playing Tip #1:

When in the spacedock, don't right-click on one of your components unless you want to sell it. I learned this the hard way. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon8.gif Luckily it was only a few minutes into the game, so I could start over. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Re: Mission Walk Thrus and Help Thread

i think the buy/sell price is the same if it hasn't been used, so if you accidently right-click on your cargo bay, no problem.

i was pretty sure your question's had nothing to do with the game without the demo. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Um, no. You lose money by selling a component and buying it back. That's why I restarted the game.

Re: Mission Walk Thrus and Help Thread

Ok, some help would be greatly appreciated...

I was playing the 3rd mission in the demo, a simple escort mission (yeah right!). I took my ship and met up with the "Baumont." I fought off many pirates, some were destroyed and I simply left some fleeing so I could follow the "Baumont." This goes on for awhile. Then, when time is up, with the completely uninjured "Baumont" directly in front of me, the screen pops up and says I did not protect the "Baumont" from destruction! WHAT?!!!

So, can anyone explain this? Is it a bug? Do I need to destroy every single pirate that appears on radar on an escort mission? Meaning, it's not just good enough to make sure the escorted ship remains alive? I'd really appreciate any insight into this. Thanks!

Don't know about that, since I never found the ship, but I have found you can let it die and still progress.

Re: Mission Walk Thrus and Help Thread

This thread died out pretty quick. Are there any resources out there on walkthroughs for guiding us less-intuitive players?

I bought my Terran Cruiser MkIII and have enlisted in Pirate Merc missions as well. Of course, I don't have an overall (non-timed) mission on my objectives menu, so I really don't know what I'm supposed to do. I've been running pirate merc and transport missions while exploring the map and opening up unlisted systems.

Any help on what I should (or shouldn't) be doing to get me moving along and triggering a world event would be just great. thanks!

Open up your events window and check the "show completed" box. Scroll til you find your Last mission for the terran contact- that will tell you where to go now that you've completed your mission.

Re: Mission Walk Thrus and Help Thread

As for the Beaumont mission, from the chatter Haynes was putting out, It sounded like the Beaumont was the bait, with the business end of the trap being you. Hence, the true goal is to wipe out the pirates, rather than just protect the Beaumont.

Most or all of the Guild missions read as protect missions, where the status of the attackers should be unimportant and only the survival of the protectee ship needs to be considered.
Unfortunately, as of this Version, the mission success trigger seems to be "Kill the enemies"

Thanks for the tip on the 'show completed', I would have never have looked there!
