Announcing: Freespace mod, a branch of the People\'s Mod

I absolutely love this game and it really disappoints me that nobody seems capable of actually making a mod that doesn't die. So here I am. I have a decent amount of experience in mod making, and I have narrowed it down to one of two things:

1) A Star Trek mod
2) A Freespace 2 based mod.

I own 3dsmax 6 and I will be using this to make new ships. There will be a full complement of new ships, new components, new missions. Do note that I am a stubbourn SOB that never gives up on anything (I'm also ex-military). Let me know what you think. I have researched both mods, and they both seem about equally feasible. The only problem I can forsee is as someone mentioned in the thread on the previous attempt at a Star Trek mod, the ships are freakin huge! Freespace does not have this issue. Anyway, let me know what you like most, and I have already begun work. As soon as a theme is decided upon, I will create a website and real work will begin.

Awesome! I keep hoping for a new mod, but as you mentioned, most seem to die early...

The only other mod I know of for Starfury is SJ's Pirates & Nomads Mod. So it'd be great if there was another around. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Also The Peoples mod is still going strong. You can check how it's progressing at.

and to see some of the models of the game at:

Shameless advertising. Sorry!

Well, I knew about the people's mod, but I haven't seen much activity in it. Anyone have any preference to themes?

As much as I would love to see a Star Trek Mod (and I would vote for that) I have to say I think a Freespace Mod would be more fitting for Starfury.

Not to mention you would probably get a nasty letter from Paramount saying you are infringing on some Star Trek Copyright unless you pay them some god awful chunk of cash (as has happened in some other mods I have heard of for other games).

Re: Announcing: Freespace mod, a branch of the People\'s Mod

Nothing has been done about the Star Trek mods for SE4. I doubt anything will happen with a SF Star Trek Mod. Malfador and Shrapnel are under the Paramount radar.

Re: Announcing: Freespace mod, a branch of the People\'s Mod

Well, I also tend to agree that a freespace mod is more fitting, the star trek ships are just too large. I'm leaning more towards a freespace mod, although if I get enough support then I may consider doing both.

What do you mean by too large?

Re: Announcing: Freespace mod, a branch of the People\'s Mod

The way the movement engine is would make it silly to make a ST mod

For one, a Borg Cube looks completely stupid when turning about (trust me, Ive imported plenty on ST models into SF)

I can see the movement issue, but you can scale the ship models down if you need to.

True, well, I'll start with the freespace mod and I'll look into the possibility of a star trek mod later down the road.

Heres a crazy suggestion

If you really want, you can become apart of PXS in developing the peoples mod, I could do with someone who would want to do some coding
Seeing as I have less and less time these days, it might give the mod the kick it needs to get some sort of release out

Deadzone, I can do some of the coding. Atleast the Quadrant Map and some of the star systems plus the usual data files of my models.

I'm still not home so I can't do anything right now. I will be home at june 2.

I will also get some new models from my friend at june and I will add them to the mod A.S.A.P. I will study the summer so my time is limited too.

Btw. 120GB HDD with 120$? That is pretty cheap. You can get one here with 109€ from Verkkokauppa.com

I'm buying a 80 gig w.d. for $104 cdn next week, and a lg 52x32x52x16 burner w dvd-rom for $88. As soon as I get those work will begin, I will begin working on a freespace mod as part of the people's mod.

Announcing the Space Empires: Starfury: Freespace mod

This mod will be a near entire rewrite of the entire game, set in the Freespace 2 world, featuring:

-New campaigns
-New ships
-New user interface
-New components

Just to name a few. Development will take place at Project X Studios, located at www.projectxstudios.com. Snapshots will be hosted as they are ready, with the first one being uploaded only when the new interface is ready, and some new ships are available. I will be posting frequent updates, as well as screenshots when they are available. Any feature requests can be made either here or at projectxstudios, and a list of all changes to the game will be made as I go. Until enough has been changed that the mod seems fully featured, releases will be Versioned only by the date the archive was created, after that stage Version 1.0 will be released. Feel free to contact me by any available means if you have any questions/comments/suggestions.
