Startrek: Starfury resurrected!
Ok, first things first. This is not a sick joke or anything like that, this time it's for real! I need to put together a team ASAP, i'll put together a list of jobs and positions that will need to be filled and others that could be used such as Concept and Art for new* ideas.
*such as ships planets and weapons not yet present in the Startrek Universe. But this is a maybe don't get your hopes up, this is only a conVersion not a fantasy. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif For all you doubtful persons out there I pity you, for this is the real deal, this time it's do or die for Startrek: Starfury. I promise you all if we fail this time,(I know we didn't fail Last time I just quit) we fail fighting. Agreed? If you guys want to give it one more go around contact me at Dmart897@yahoo.com, AIM: Fenis523, or reply to this posting, i'll be back on at about 1:00 pm or 2:00 pm tomorrow so get typing!! Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!
I wish you every bit of luck, I really hope this works out, we need our ST mod, I can gurantee some problems, but Im sure these can be "ignored"
Here is an idea on the fact that some models dont go well wit the movement engine... create new models, orginal ones, just say its in the future (can make up new races to http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif ) |
Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!
Or try finding ship from the Enterprise serie. The ships in that serie should go nicely with Starfury's movement engine.

Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!
Thanks guys, Im gonna try to get the job listing out today so if anyone sees something they can do feel free to contact me.

Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!
I'm currently doing another mod and besides that studying so my time is pretty limited. However if any of my models prove to be Trek worthy you can use them in your mod if you like.
Maybe the closest thing I have to a trek ship is this following model: Paladin Image 1 Image 2 Image 3 [ June 15, 2004, 19:37: Message edited by: Exan ] |

I could TRY and think of a story. But amm dont count on it i might not have the time.Does it have to be Star Trek related? To be honest i dont know aything about Star Trek,i just didnt catch it.
Althou i do know the basic story.Captain ownes a ship.Captain has a great ship.Captain goes in adventures.Captain gets in troubles.Captain saves the universe. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif [ June 18, 2004, 20:51: Message edited by: SamZaWild ] |

Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!
Ok, wow that drew some attention....
First of Exan, no offense but if that's what the models will look like in Starfury maybe I don't want to make this mod http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif . Seriously, it's ok looking but i'm hoping for something "closer" to Armada 1, you know what I mean? Second SamZaWild, give me your E-mail address and i'll refer you to Iansidious he's the resident trekkie, you can send your story to him and go over the details later. Thank you for your contribution to this project. And finally DeadZone, I am most grateful. If you could send an e-mail to me telling me what job you'd be most interested in pursuing that would be awesome. Thank you all again for contributing. Any further questions or comments send to Dmart897@yahoo.com or just reply to this posting. Daniel Rastellini Startrek: Starfury Founder |
Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!
None taken. Well it won't look exactly like this in starfury. But I agree, the texture map is little cruel to say atleast. And I'm still a beginner 3d modelling but I will improve in the future hopefully.
Normally the star trek meshes that are found in the net have so high polygon count that Lithunwrap can't even open them. And when you open on in max for example the ship is fine looking but it has way too much polygons to put that into the game. But maybe if you could take ships directly from Armada. EDIT: I checked it. You can take ships directly from Armada and Sovereign only had about 500 polygons so they'll fit nicely into the game. The only problem is that it may be illegal to use the models without permission. Also I have other ship which is somewhat smoother than the Last one. It's not actually a trek ship and doesn't pretend to be but it has similar engines. http://koti.mbnet.fi/dyards/es2falcon/es2falcon.html [ June 16, 2004, 08:07: Message edited by: Exan ] |
Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!
Do not take models directly from Armada
This will draw the attension of Paramount very quickly, Ive seen many mods shut down down by them simply cos of them doing this I suggest going to http://www.staryards.com/ The person running this site used to come on here himself, and has already said you can take any of these models and convert them, just make sure you have the proper credits a mod read-me |

Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!
I took few models from there and they have way too many polygons. For example, U.S.S Enterprise-E had over 3000 just in half of the saucer part. The whole model was so complicated that lithunwrap couldn't open it.
That's why I recommend doing the models yourself or ask someone who has done trek models before to do low-polygon Versions. |
Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!
Oh yeah, forgot to mention what I could do...
Well I can do almost about everything But the areas I would excel in mostly Technical Advisor Programing Slot Editor Character Designer(Playables, enemies, allies) The following, any chance on describing the duties of Producer File Compilation And you said to ask, so Im asking Game Design* http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif |
Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!
I can box model pretty well, if I have time I think I can help with some modeling... even I'm not that great of a star trek fan, I can squeeze in a few original ST designs of my own, but as for textures you're on your own..
|
Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!
I can help too I guess. I can make some models. I have almost the entire july free so if I'm home I have time to do models. To show what I can do I made this little ship. Note it doesn't have textures yet.
U.S.S Excalibur So what do you think about this one? It has about 1000 polygons so it will be about as heavy to render as the Terran starbase. EDIT: Little update. I started doing the texture map. So far I've only finished engines and I'm now doing the saucer part. http://koti.mbnet.fi/dyards/images/e...alibur_tx1.jpg [ June 17, 2004, 19:12: Message edited by: Exan ] |
Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!
ok, wow this is so exciting http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif .
First off, I like the Falcon model Exan. It reminds me of a type nine shuttle or a Romulan ship. Redesigned it could be the first Romulan model for ingame! Second Exan again http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif , if you want a job and make it offical lol then let me know. I don't really want to except anything if your not on the team. Ok on to the rest! Longinus, ANY Help is appreciated! If you can't do textures !!HEY!! who am I to point fingers? Models is something I really need, send me a few samples (Dmart897@yahoo.com) and we'll talk. Deadzone (And Homer... picking his nose?), Thanks for the info, Copyright is an evil thing! Anywho, I have a Tech Advisor (YO McGinness!). So unless something gets filled before then you got the run of the mill, so to speak. Let me know what you want to do and i'll see what we can do. (Dmat897@yahoo.com) And Exan again http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif I REALLY like the Excalibur! But (I know I know) the Saucer section is a tad bit long and, the rear is a little wide, I really like the underside and the area around the Deflector Dish. The Nacelles are a perfect design, almost in complete harmony with TMP and PreTNG ships, but the body of the ship just screams DS9 Era. I love the blend Exan just not the saucer and the rear!!!!! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif ! |

I suppose programming would be the best bit for me, seeing as all it involves is editing text files http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif If you want some systems, I suggest asking Exan as he has quick a skill for it |
Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!
Well I can do some of the models. Modelling is fun but I don't like doing texturemaps so try to find someone to do them. I can also code the quadrant map since I'm pretty good at it.
TPM Quadrant map Most of the systems and the quadrant map of TPM is coded by me. So I can do that too. Thanks for the compliments regarding Excalibur. You may have noticed that I've taken some influence from Sovereign class. I too noticed the saucer section being too big. But it's easily scaled down. If you want you can use any models of Draco Yards in your mod. My participation in July will be very limited however since I don't have school and not work so I have little reason staying home so I'm going to visit my family for almost the entire july. Mostly because of financial reasons. I don't have to spend money on food etc. so I think I save about 50-80€. Maybe if I install starfury and 3dsmax to my second computer and take it with me I can do something. Laptop would be so nice. (but darn too expensive) [ June 17, 2004, 22:28: Message edited by: Exan ] |
Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!
Exan, you sure your ready for such a big step as quadrant map? I'll need Alpha, Beta, Gamma, and Delta Quadrants. That's over 300 Starsystems! But to be nice i'll have them split in to campaigns or something. And modeling is a big plus if you want it, don't worry about textures i'm sure I can find someone.
Thank you for Draco models, is that your site? To everyone; Tell your friends to stop on by!!! Job openings available for the greatest Trek mod ever!!! Beta available at some point don't miss out!!! ::End Advertisement now:: http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif OH!! BTW I need someone to go over the sounds, dialogue, music, and ship classes currently available and tell me what you think. 3 or 5 people is preferrible so I can get a majority and a minority. THANKS!! Daniel Rastellini Startrek: Starfury Founder |
Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!
You know, thats something
How many systems can SF support in one campaign? |
Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!
I've got 196 with no sign of problems. The biggest issue is fitting them all on the map..
|
Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!
Over 300 star systems? Well that's pretty much. But I can do it for starters till you find someone else so keep that job open.
I can do atleast some of the models. It's pretty easy actually. I made Excalibur from 4 cylinders which I then altered to get the ship look like it looks now. It took about an hour or so. The texture map I've done so far took over 2 hours so I can really appreciate any help I get in that area. As for regarding Draco Yards, yes it's my site. It has the ship models build by Draco Yards in the People's mod. Also their background decriptions are meant to TPM. But for little changes you can easily fit the ships to any campaign. |
Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!
Well, here's something I whipped up in my spare time.
Javelin Class starship USS Brunhilde... I guess you can call her the new Miranda class, it's basically what I imagine the Miranda would look like in the Voyager era. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif It obviously needs a few tweaks... Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!
A lot of these ships look great! Hint. The Dautless design might be a good one to play with. It has a future look to it and Federation look.
|
Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!
I don't know.... I was hoping for the traditional ships of startrek to start with and then maybe later we'll do something, I don't know.
But for now I just need someone to go around asking people for permission to use ship models or to make ship classes that already exist. For example: Miranda Sovereign Galaxy Intrepid Akira Nova Etc. But don't just do Federation. If you look in the other Startrek Starfury topic you'll see a list of Races, I need ships for all of these races. This is preproduction so-to-speak and we need some concept races, so get some pictures and send em my way. If I approve then I either need you to make the model or get permission to use someone elses model. Anyone that wants to do this get out there and do it, i'll see to it that a list is made so we can keep track of what ships we already have. Later, Daniel Rastellini |
Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!
I'm not good at replicating already existing models. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif I create new ones from the scratch. By the way I did the changes you requested to Excalibur. Currently it looks like this
The texture map is still under work. |
Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!
For ships, why not use ideas from the recent games of the SE4 STM mod? The games' ships aren't identical but fairly close.

I need anything as far as Cannon Startrek models go. But since im so short handed i'll except some models for review. How does Concept Artist sound Exan? Your mission, if you choose to accept it http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif , will be to create Prototype Starship designs and submit them to me. Hello! I have not looked at the Star Fury page here for a while (there was nothing to look at).But now that this has come back http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif . Now, I would like to offer my help as TA. I don't want to take the job from Iansidious, just to join him, Anything he does not know I would and visa versa. Also if you will tell me what you want (war with borg etc etc) I can try to get you a story, you would have to convert it for SEIV ( I mean into the text that is needed for the game)
Just let me know, You can tell Ian and he can let me know if I can't look here for a day or two. |

That's very kind of you Sefter Aruna but we already have a Story man and Ian is a very capable TA, but if you would like we can set you up as a Beta tester and perhaps something else if you'd like, please look over the jobs again. Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!
I don't know. Comparison to Sovereign Excalibur looks pretty nice as it is. That and I'm lazy. If I change the thing I have to redo the texturemap.
Also it has many polygons there. Editing it would be a quite a job. But I will see what I can do. EDIT: It currently looks like this [ June 19, 2004, 09:05: Message edited by: Exan ] |

Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!
Nice angle Exan, it looks like someone squahed the saucer http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif . But after a few minutes I saw how it really looked, it's ok for now so I would like to see more of the same.
Lose the texture mapping on this model and it's pretty kickass (not to say that with some time your work would be kickass too). I'll see if I can find a textures guys somewhere, so just worry about the models and everything will be fine. Don't worry about time Sam if you don't finish the story in time for the holiday (???) than we'll just start back up when you get back. Also, if you don't finish by your holiday then i'd like you to send me what you have so far. (Dmart897@yahoo.com) |
Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!
Well I've only done about 20% of the texturemap so the ship doesn't look very good.
|
Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!
Exan, I've visited your site. I am going to use the two spacedock facilities and maybe the Manhattan (Reserch facility or Phaser Turret).
Would at all be possible for you to design a Freighter and maybe a redesign of the San Francisco to look more like the Research Facility in Armada 1? Also I need a Federation Starbase, Federation Outpost (Armada 1), a Torpedo Turret (Armada 2), and a Trade Center (Armada 2. Possible use: Space dock, Item Purchase). One Last thing, are you going to be a full time modeler?? |
Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!
No to the full time modeler. My priority is The People's mod but I will help you when I have time which in july is very limited since I will spend most of the month elsewhere.
So you found use for the boat shack? (the first spacedock)About the other requests. Research facility in Armada 1? I don't modify my existing models because I suck at that. I'll start from a stracth doing something similar. As for other requests. I haven't played Armada 2 so I have no idea what you're talking about. But I will propably design somthing like sensor array, satellite, gun turrets etc. for TPM so you can use those models. Also here's a new trek ship. Note, no texturemap yet. Just something that isn't pink. Quetzacotl I'm not quite happy for her design. I screwed in some point of while creating it and thus the engines may not be aligned properly. |

Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!
I disagree Sam the Nacelle is ok. Exan, that model is bangin! Erm.. I mean, it's cool.. Anywho, forget what I said about Armada 2 look here: www.armada2files.com there is alot of stuff we can use, I just found an Aegean Class ship with only 904+ polys. This isn't too much right?
Oh and for everyone making models I got a few links for you: Starship Design Guidelines http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/articles/design.htm Starship Sizes http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/ar...ship_sizes.htm Starship Size Table http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/ar...size_table.htm Starship Scaling http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/articles/scaling.htm Wolf 359 Order of Battle (Fed) http://www.ex-astris-scientia.org/articles/wolf359.htm Hopefully some or all of these links can help anyone with modelling to scale. NOTE: These are all scaled seperately in there categories. I threw in the Wolf 359 Order of Battle in case anyone wanted to try to make those models. Instead of asking is 904+ too much, I really should ask what is the max????? Thank you, hopefully I can use some of the 1500 poly or higher. But no higher than 2000 I think. Daniel Rastellini Startrek: Starfury Founder |
Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!
I don't know the max but basically the more polygons the more time the computer needs to render the model. So if you have many high polygon ships flying in a same system it can slow the game.
The planets in Starfury have 1700 polygons and the Terran starbase has about 1000. My model, Excalibur has about 1600 and the Sovereign model in Armada 1 has about 1200 polygons. I think starship polygons should be maxed about 1000-1500 or so. |
Re: Startrek: Starfury resurrected!
Excellent, that means I can get to work on DLing Armada models as soon as possible. (I don't mean models ingame, but more like Fan made copies. It's legal to use those)
Keep up the good work everyone, i'll be in touch. Daniel Rastellini Startrek: Starfury Founder |
