Weakest nation in Dom I

Which nation was weakest in Dominions I in your experience?

Re: Weakest nation in Dom I

Man, as fun nation it is, felt quite handicapped.
They are so tied to their capital.
Marignon is another candidate, but Astral magic isn't shabby and even if CoC's are expensive, they kick *BLEEP*.

But i must say, in the end, Dominions I had quite good balance between the nations.

In the mid-game, they have Wrathful Sky/Thunderwarp, Poison Ward/Foul Vapor Combos. In the late game, they have Lamia Queen, Fairy Queen and Couatl to supplement their magic. Who else has such flexibility?

Marignon is not weak neither. Fire and Astral magic are destructive.

The only nation that I found weak in a real game versus human is Ermor.

Funny that somebody posted Arcoscephale as a weak nation. Most of the veterans would smile about this http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Marignon is not that weak, I played it in a pbem, but on the other hand as magic duel was Banned, I didnt had to fear that my poor astral 1 (costly) witch hunters would got brain burned.

A problem is that the grand master is only recruitable on the capitol, and he is the only one able to cast astral fire...

There should be a vote for "don't know". It'll be quite a while before I have enough experience to say. So far I've only played as five of them. They all seemed to have good strengths.

I voted R'lyeh, but feel the need to explain.

In a game featuring *all* nations, I feel R'lyeh to be militarily outclassed by Atlantis initially, and at a serious disadvantage when attacking land territories.

That having been said, I do love the illithids; I just feel that once that one unit type ceases to be a threat that R'lyeh is no longer a frightening opponent.

</font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">This isn't about what nation is the weakest or what is the strongest, it's what nation is the weakest from your experience. IMO Man is bound to his capital, Longbows take only so far and even if they have Air mages, you can only produce them in your capital. IMO Marignon has vulnerable(no shields) normal infantry, expensive better(read:with shields) infantry and mages that are snacks to every 4-Astral mage that wanders by.
But its all IMO.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Perhaps this is a problem, dom 1 probably didnt have enough market exposure to show up on their radar.

Well... MM removed all star trek references (some system names and such mostly) from SE when they went from SE3 to SE4. Perhaps you guys might want to consider doing the same? At least stuff that was created by other companies, not just borrowed from various mythologies and such. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Just some food for thought. I don't know if WOTC would actually sue you, but you never know. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">There are a few minor things in other places as well that is shamelessly borrowed from other games or products. If it is a problem it shouldn't be to troublesome to fix though. I thought this wouldnt pose a problem since compared with for example VGA planets very overt ripoffs of Star Trek and Star Wars dominions is virtually unsullied by plagiaranism.

Again, I have no idea what the chances of being sued are. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

The H.P. Lovecraft estate would have something to say if Wizards of the Coast tried to get uppity. All that "tentacled horror" stuff is straight out of his mythos.

I wouldn't sweat it, honestly.

When did Lovecraft write those books?

Notice he said estate. Lovecraft died in 1937, so it's safe to say he has prior claim. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Re: Weakest nation in Dom I

We have to keep in mind, in the realm of fantasy games, a number of big names ripped off other frandises without being sued. Sqauresoft, for example, used Dungeon and Dragons monsters, races, weapons, and magics for thier japanese and european releases in thier early years. Several US editions I think also have this, but most were watered down or renamed/redrawn.

The D&D copyright holders never did file suit or trademark/copyright infringement. As a result, time has passed and they couldn't sue even if wanted to now.

On the other hand, Marvel Comics, DC Comics, and Blizzard Entertainment ruthlessly prosecute anyone that even blinks in a manner similar to a game/comic book character of thiers. Blizzard, for example, managed to shut down the entire production to the Horror Flick "Diablo". DC Comics almost ruined Marvel Comics (who was Timely Comics at the time) over the similarities between Superman & Capt. Marvel.

So it's a two way street.

Personally, I feel it's nothing to really worry about in this case. too small and too little. Any worries can simply be resolved by the addition, subtraction, and swapping of letters.
