Searchable Spells
Ok, I asked before and it didn't exist. So I decided to make a searchable database of spells. Thanks to Sunray's excel file I got at:
http://www.freewebs.com/sunray_dom2 I exported the spells and imported them into a database you can see at: http://www.sangster.org/dominions/grimorie.php You can search by spell name, type, school, class, gem cost, fatigue, level, and Primary Element (which I believe is path - I just used what was in Sunray's spreadsheet). All results are sorted alphabetically. I also added a column which tells what page each spell is found on in the manual. Note that this isn't pretty or anything, so if you're looking for a visually stimulating web site this ain't it! But if you want spells, this should work ok. Let me know if this is of any use to anyone. Darryl P.S. If Illwinter is here and this violates any copyrights just say the word and I'll take the page down. |
Re: Searchable Spells
Darryl,
I haven't been to the site, but if Illwinter objects to in on intellectual property grounds, it is my hope that they will allow the exact data to be hosted on this board at something stickied to the top. Because the way the spells are organized in the manual with no index basically invites folks to do what you have done. Thanks for doing this. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif |
Re: Searchable Spells
Very cool.
Thanks Sammual |

One of these days maybe I'll finish it. Or maybe even put something else on the site! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif Darryl |
Re: Searchable Spells
Great work, Darryl! This is very convenient and it is something I was missing a lot. Thanks a lot!

Re: Searchable Spells
great work ! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
correction : I searched for any global enchantment & found that : the looming hell : p128 instead of p127 (if they are not different copies of the manual) blood slaves(gems) cost 150 & not 127 astral corruption : p128 (not 127) gems is 166 (according to manual) & not 127 arcane nexus : gems is 150 & not 127 LOL it seems there's something between you & 127 http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif (I'm just joking http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif ) other than tha, the thing I always wanted about spells is to know which one works underwater (when you're fighting an underwater nation, it's sometime difficult to know) so if you could add that to your search engine, that would be great http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif just a question : if you don't specify anything shouldn't you obtain the list of all spells ? You can get the same effect by choosing the following: "Level greater than or equal to 0" with all other values at the default. Instant list of all spells in the database! I'll probably put up a link to do it, but that will work as well. Darryl |

In other words, link away. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif Darryl P.S. You wouldn't happen to know of an excel spreadsheet with unit stats in it would you? |

BTW, I came across some faulty stats: Cost for Tiamat is 8 gems not 5. Fatigue for Astral tempest is 200 not 127. |
Re: Searchable Spells
There seems to be something magic about the number 127.
Many spells have a fatigue or gem cost of 127 and can also be found on page 127. * Edit: 127 seems to be the highest displayable number * [ January 05, 2004, 18:35: Message edited by: Kristoffer O ] |

Of course I think someone sent some spies into my web host to instill uprising, so I'll start patrolling and see if I can get them out. Stay tuned... |

"15 filthy bugs (Machaka??) have been found and slain mercilessly. This program is now safe and orderly"
For those that care, I allocated too little space for the larger numbers, thus the 127 cut off. The numbers should be better now. But let me know if anything else isn't consistent with the manual. Darryl |

And is there a problem with "Send Horror"? It seems to be the same as in the manual, as is "Call Horror". Rigor Mortis, however, is incorrect. Darryl [ January 06, 2004, 16:23: Message edited by: Darryl ] |
Re: Searchable Spells
Some spells are both rituals and, ie., battlefield enchantments. Rigor Mortis is like this, and Call Horror is a combat summon.
Is there a different battle summoning phrase, to define those sumoning spells that are cast in battle? If so, later would not be a bug but my misunderstanding. |

Rigor mortis is a battlefield spell, same as Call horror. Send horror is however a ritual. All spells can be classed under the above 2 headers. |
Re: Searchable Spells
I'm not sure anymore. I searched with a type and class, trying to find ritual spells with a class that doesn't seem to be ritual. I found Call Lesser Horror, a combat summoning spell needing 200 ( http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif ) gems and giving out 0 fatique...
Seems I misremembere the name before. |
Re: Searchable Spells
200 gems in Combat for a Ritual spell huh? Well that's obviously an Illwinter mistake, so I'll just get them to change the game so it's consistent with my......
Ok, ok, I changed the database. Call Lesser Horror should be correct now. Darryl |
Re: Searchable Spells
Good work Daryl!
At the moment it only sorts the results by alpha on the name column. How about the ability to sort on the other columns? |
