Affliction record?

Hi,

This game is so addictive it should probably be illegal. I'm playing Pangea normal vs 4 Difficult AIs (Man, Ulm Pythium [defeated by cps] and C'tis). I've bunkered in and am gradually creating SCs to send out and expand.

So far, I've been using Golems, with Robe of Invulnerability, Charcoal Shield, Elixir of Life, Regen ring, trample boots and Elf Bane. (If anyone has suggestions on equipment, I'd be interested.)

Now, to the point. I have this poor old Golem, Erborn. He now has 8! afflictions. I was wondering what the record was and thought it might be amusing to post some of the situations and combinations.

Erborn was defending a province by himself, no defense (as I don't want the wimpy def troops to rout off) for several turns (Last turn he finally got another Golem to help). Every turn he's been attacked by Ulm.

One battle, many turns ago, seemed to give him most of his maladies, but this Last battle gave him his latest injury. That first battle was the only one I thought would be a challenge. It was Erborn and an Iron Dragon vs a bunch of rabble led by a couple of lizard riders and Pig Boy. (I don't remember what he's called, but he looks like a pig in red robes.) There were also a bunch of big (size 4) dudes in grey armor. These guys and Pig Boy managed to kill the ID, but eventually, between Elf Bane and Trampling, Erborn prevailed.

So, now here's the list (the Last three affictions I think are hilarious, taken together):

Lost one eye
Lost the other eye, as well
Chest wound
Limp (probably from banging around blind)
Never healing wound
Mute (so much for Body Ethereal)
Feeble minded (not that he'd remember to cast it)
Lost the head (no spell casting for yooooooooou)

And in this pitiful state, he still keeps on ticking and giving out a licking, blindly trampling around stomping on his foes who've set themselves on fire trying to kill him.

Now, if I could only give him some award, prize, mutation for his noble service so well above and beyond the call.

I've made the Chalice and have the other golem building a lab (he now has 3 afflictions) and am going to try and pull him out so he can recover.

I don't know, just this lost one eye, lost the other eye, struck mute, made feeble ... oh, and by the way, YOU LOST YOUR HEAD! Just cracks me up.

Love, love, love this game,
V'ger gone

P.S.

I gave Erborn the Chalice and sat him out a turn. Voila! He now has an eye back and is no longer feebleminded. As to where his new eye and mind are ...?

Hi,

Thanks for replying. Yeah, I got the poor thing out of the front lines and gave it the Chalice. I also finally got Gift up. I'd been battling C'tis trying to dispel their Burden of Time. There were already 5 globals up and I cast Gift 2 times before making it in. Heck, I cast dispel 3 times before getting it to work. I had boosted with 15, then 30 and finally 90! astral gems before succeeding.

He's now down to one affliction, a never healing wound. I'm waiting for that to clear before sending him back in.

Ciao,

I saw a pretender lich acquire 7 afflictions in one long fight in the arena (against a prophet that kept trying to banish it). It eventually won, but another prophet finished it easily in the next round...

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Ring-> useless, regenration doesn't work on lifeless critters such as constructs

boots+axe-> when trampling you are not using your weapon, so it's not an optimum combo as you will only use the axe vs critters with equal or bigger size. Thus there might be better options for the hand slot, basically something that gives benefits every combat round, and not ocasionally.

Personally I'm still waiting for my own copy of the game. Should be here any day now.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Yes. Specifically, a main gauche. Or else a lucky sword... either one is good. And cheap. A long weapon like a spear (especially a poisoned one) or whip (length 5, with various effects) is good for repels, too.

Chest wound
Never Healing Wound
Mute
Feeble Minded
Lost an arm

...oddly, despite dying hundreds of times he never got Battle Fright. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif Maybe gods are immune?

Edit: also, he didn't get limp or crippled, probably because he is mounted. So if you really want to see all the possible afflictions, give a crystal heart to an ordinary commander on foot and let him take a province by himself. You might need something to help you kill them faster after becoming blind, one-armed and feebleminded: I suggest a damage aura like rime hauberk. Snake bladder stick + snake ring might work too, I don't know if the poison cloud appears even if you miss.

BTW, is the leadership reduction from Mute cumulative with that from Feeble Minded? The god in the above example had normal leadership 4 (no undead or magic leadership). I don't remember what's normal for a freak lord though.

Hi,

Thanks for all the replies, y'all.

Saber, my script for Golems is Body Eth, Personal Luck, Twist Fate, then attack closest. Wouldn't he use his weapon?

If he doesn't, then I might take back the boots and give him Boots of Quickness rather than replace the weapon. I want to be sure to have a solution for magic/large/ethereals, etc.

I've come to the conclusion that even the Chalice will not heal Never Healing Wound as I've left it on two different Golems that had that affliction for several turns with no result. I'm working my way up to Fairy Court to see if she can help out.

Erborn is still alive and back in action. Though another Golem has killed far more. Erborn has only killed 259 while Topigog has hacked up 1193. I'm trying to send them in pairs, but it takes so much in resources and time to create their equipment.

I'm getting very serious attacks on all border provinces that I have to carefully manage any expansion so that I don't leave myself vulnerable.

I think I'm going to try bigger summons, one of the Elemental Kings/Queen or Father Illearth. (Illearth will require making some artifacts to pump up a Pan.)

It's such fun watching these HUGE armies get slaughtered by two of my Golems. Great, great game.

Ciao,

Re: Affliction record?

My most afflicted is Popocatepetl the Mictlan Priest, who is up to eleven afflictions, and counting. He also has a horror mark, and a soul contract that is his only reason to live. That contract is providing the backbone of my army, at the expense of poor terrified Popocatepetl, who lurks quivering and blind in my home fortress, dreading the arrival of the almost inevitable day when his afflictions, or a horror, carry his soul away to the underworld.

His story is that he was diseased by miasmatic dominion, shortly after the previous bearer of the soul contract was killed in a surprise attack. Popocatepetl found the soul contract and undersigned it, for which the loyal followers of Gurgelor, my pretender, are enormously indebted and grateful. However, it also necessitated keeping him alive, both for the wages of the soul contract, and for Popocatepetl's sake, to postpone his payment of the ultimate price. The best we have yet been able to do to keep him alive has been to give him a ring of regeneration, which keeps his health stable at 8, but which has slowly been accumulating afflictions for him, which now list as follows:

diseased
lost one eye
lost the other eye as well
weakened
limp
crippled
never healing wound
mute
battle fright
feeble minded
lost an arm

and not technically an affliction, but also, the horror mark.

Edit: spelling errors - "bling" etc.

My worst was a Blue Dragon pretender. He started the battle with 240 HP in dragon form, then changed to Frost Father form on turn 1 and attacked. Ooops, I think I forgot to change his scripting... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif

So in Frost Father form, he retained 240 HP but his new max HP was 10, and protection was zero. Thus, virtually every every hit gave him a wound, and he started out with a lost eye anyway. Needless to say, he died in battle with every affliction. That's when it becomes no longer worthwhile to resurrect him...

The mean Abyssian Warlord, mean feller, Hall of Fame #1 with over 3000 kills to his name.

battle fright

lost an arm
lost one eye

mute

And he was CURSED as well as horror marked! 13 afflictions! Admittedly, some of those afflictions are afflictions I intentionally afflicted him with, like that chest wound there, as this was back in the old crystal heart days.

And the best part? Despite the immense pain he obviously had to be in, he singlehanded "slew" the final enemy pretender to claim the victory prize. He valiantly stumbled across the battlefield as the enemy pretender, himself feebleminded hacked and chopped through my troops as spells exploded from mages of both sides.

Finally, all that was left on the field was the enemy pretender, a pretty sorry wreck himself, and my even sorrier wreck of a warlord....they clashed in the center. Actually, it kept saying my troops were routing, but the warlord was paralyzed and couldn't move. So finally, the enemy pretender collapsed from heat exhaustion and eventually died trying to beat my useless, crippled, paralyzed warlord to death.

Victory was mine.

This certainly isn't a record, but let's give the poor chap a nod - he's only a lowly Longdead Horseman:

Lost one eye
Lost the other eye as well
Mute
Feeble Minded
Lost the head

Can you Gift of Reason an Undead? I might want to take this guy to the Veterans' Hall...

"Lost the head" ... even if he finds it, it's not going to be much good for him. That may be the record for undead horsemen - I think they only have 7 HP and don't heal.

I expect you could GoR it, but I haven't tried.

BTW, my Popocatepetl the Mictan Priest is no longer a contender, as I finally managed to heal him completely using Gift of Health. I thought some of the more compassionate of you would be pleased to hear that. He still has the horror mark, though, but these days he still hangs out in the home castle, with a bodyguard.

THis isnt that funny, but i like the details in this game. When i realized a cyclops can only loss one eye until his attack and defense go 0 i was simply amazed.

I really like the affliction text when a wyrm losses his eyes (which should be 4)

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Well undead work by different rules in every game and film that has them. Clearly in Dominions, they still do use their eyes.

I'm very glad my units don't get arbitrarily destroyed at 4 afflictions. In my opinion, that would be really lame (so to speak http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif ).

I think not being able to dismiss units is somewhat amusing and doesn't need to be changed, although I suppose ideally I'd like to see them dismissable. However if so, I would have the game keep track of them, and re-use them sometimes later in play, having some of them show up in random independent armies, independent random events, mercenary bands, some might decide to volunteer for an enemy, etc. You might also have the option to have someone try to kill them rather than dismiss them, but that would require a combat, and they might escape anyway.

Speaking of afflictions...I have noticed with regard to SCs who are prophets or pretenders:

Afflictions appear to be based on base hps as cherry pointed out. If you go from high dominion...lots of hps...to high negative dominion...low hps...you will discover that you really pile up the afflictions as you are slain. Because you have that high number of hps starting out...and you get high percentages of your base hps done to you cumulatively as you are killed. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

Phradmon is the result of an all AI quick test game. So Phradmon doesn't have a story.

Actually he does have some background. I found him when I inspected Pangaea (CW) besieging Caelum. Due to a bug Phradmon was immortal (not the old fashioned dominion Version, but true immortality where you cannot be killed) and got back from the grave whenever he was scewered. He singlehandedly defeated hundreds of enemies trying to get him (if boring them to death counts as defeating).

A Marignon inquisitor died, but wasn't removed from the battle. He still counted as being alive for the purposes of Marignon's presence in the battle, but he never moved or cast anything and none of my units would acknowledge his existance. After turn 40ish they auto-routed, which sucked. I found him in the middle of the battlefield in the replay (only looked cause I lost with a vastly superior force) with like -27 hp and a bunch of wounds. Re: Affliction record?

Something strange occurred earlier in my SP game. I attacked a province held by non-pd forces only, consisted of:
- 1 Abysia Anathemant Dragon
- 1 Warlord
- 2 Humanbred
- 7 Summer Lion

My forces consisted of:
- Aella the Queen of Storms
- Nephele the Queen of Clouds
- 25 Air Elementals
- 26 Sylph

In battle replay, none of my Sylphs were present, this was strange. Then Anathemant Dragon casted Phoenix Pyre on turn 1. What happened next was that during battle replay, after my AEs slaughtered the Humanbred and Summer Lions, the Abysian started to rout with only the Anathemant Dragon and Warlord alive then. On my turn, my AEs slayed the Warlord, and flew next Anathemant Dragon and surrounded it.

Next turn, the Anathemant Dragon attacked futilely (he's surrounded, so couldn't retreat). On my turn, my Air Elements easily slayed him, then he went boom per his Phoenix Pyre, reborn a short distance from where he died, only to be killed again with all the firework.

After that, a message popped up in Windows pop-up fashion, saying "automeele: molesting the dead", and when I click the ok button, the game CTD.

Reloaded the game and checked the battle summary instead, it said my forces were beaten by Abysian defending force, with 26 out of 26 magic beings lost (my 26 missing Sylphs?), but the Queens alive. Going to the province, and yup, I didn't capture it, but my Queens and all 25 AEs appeared at the neighbouring province as if retreated (in retreat fashion because all the AEs are in garrison now, only one route to retreat). Rather puzzling. Checked my origin of attack (same place where they retreated to), and no Sylphs to be found. Checked my capital (making sure I didn't grab the wrong Air Queen), and nope, no Sylph either.

Anyway, just thought I'd share this. I suppose that Automeele error message may be an internal check of sorts, rather than a bug. Still, that doesn't explain the bizzare Sylph disappearance case. Perhaps they are related, i.e. triggering of the error message somehow caused the glitch... The "molesting the dead" part is rather bizzare/funny though http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
