Weather effects?

I know storms make fire magic harder and in Dom I they stopped all archery and most fliers. How much has this changed?

Also is there any effect of the light fog I sometimes see on the battlefield?

Re: Weather effects?

Storm doesn't shut down archery any more, but apparently precision = half base precision + bonuses (experience, etc).

Re: Weather effects?

But the real purpose of storm was to stop enemies from killing commanders and mages by targeting them with flyers and missiles (unless of course you where and air nation, in which case you were also looking to pump spells).

Storms still stops flyers, and missiles can no longer target commanders. The way it worked out, most of the important effect is still there.

Meanwhile the staff of storms is back to construction 4. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

Rain decreases heat effects, makes fire magic more fatiguing and weaker, and eliminates half of flaming arrows. Also, it may decrease prec.

I think SoS should be an artifact, or con-6 and very expensive... it has artifacty powers.

The storm has become more difficult to cast, right?

Is there any way to see what the weather is like at a given turn? The only info I can see is at host screen where it says what time of year it is... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif

Re: Weather effects?

provinces should have some type of weather information... especially if you have a spy or scout sitting in the province.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">That's fine, but what good would it do you? Your scouts would have to be meteorologists to predict what the weather would be next month! Now a spell (like astral window) could potentially let you know what the weather would be like in the future, or a special unit (lets give them to Micitan since they seem shafted anyway) called the Meteoroligist could do it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

I can see no weather information other than the heat/cold scale. No rain/snow/fog/storm whatsoever... please be more specific if any such information is available.

Re: Weather effects?

It's visible where it has an effect - during battle resolution.

Seeing the weather for each province would be amusing and interesting, even if you couldn't immediately react to it - you could then see what kinds of weather each province (where you have a presence) has, and use that info to estimate the chances of running into weather later, or notice changes due to sneaky rain gods passing through your desert, or whatever (currently possible with scales). It would be amusing, but perhaps more work than it's worth at this point.

The current season would be useful to have listed somewhere besides the between-turns screens, though.

Or that there's a Banefire Braziers or Plain of Perpetual Drought site in the province.

I too think the scales of a province should be displayed if you have a scout or spy there. These guys are supposed to gather intel for you, they should notice if the locals are industrious or lazy (production/sloth), if the cattle is healthy and the flora abundant (growth) or if corpses litter the landscape (death). Likewise, in a magical universe, I expect even mundane scouts to feel the ambient magic - just like in our scientific universe, you've not to be a rocket scientist to notice the differences between a modern hospital in Los Angeles and a shaman's hut in the Kalahari.

I feel that info gathering in Dominon is weak.
The scouts/spys should definitely get the scales, or at least an estimate.

IMO, the scouts should get the info that spys currently get, and spys should get it in a one province radius. The astral spells that "spy" should also work in a radius as they cost gems for a weak effect.

Re: Weather effects?

For seasons, you can see that on the event summary page when you host a new turn, or by pressing "m" for "message". On the top of the screen, it'll say
Quote:

Message for xxx, God of yyy
Late Winter in the year x of the ascension war
<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">So it is currently late winter.

Re: Weather effects?

I thnk there should be Messages when the seasons change. It is not as important as in some other games, but still you should be aware of what happens in the world somehow...

Is it possible that one of the Seasons could be longer than normal? Like if more than half of the world is in Cold dominion there is a slight possibility of Winter Lasting till Early Spring?

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">How much more of a message do you need than what you now have in Dom 2 when the next turn happens and at the very top of the report it says "Early Winter" or "Early Spring"? It's pretty blatant. It even has an icon for each season ...

Re: Weather effects?

Hmm, I am a little confused here. AFAIK there are two types of weather - the effects that are " naturally" produced in the given province in particular turn( which are probably affected somewhat by current season (?) ), and weather effects which are result of different spells gloal and local spelss/items. Let me try to make a quick list with my observations and please correct me where I am wrong:

Rain: (obviosly easy to detect during battle) I suppose it makes fire spells more tiring and reduces fire aura of units who has it (?)

Snow: (aslo easy to detect): no idea, perhaps same effects as rain but stronger? The snow maybe also related to Cold scale in province, meaning more Cold -> higher chances of snow (?). Also it is probaly more likely to happen during the winter season and less likely during the summer. Not sure if province type (mountains for example) also affects probability of snow.

Fog (?) (when the sky turns gray the moment the battle begin) - I think it affects the precision of missile troops and spell casters, but I am not sure.

Storm - no idea how it looks, perhaps I confuse it with rain/fog effects? I know it supposed to make flying impossible for most units (except units usch us Cealum storm-troops), also it reducess significantly precision or archers, and finally it affects efficiency/availability of few spells (Like summon stormpower, wrathfull skies, perhaps few others).

Also if I remember right sometimes you fight on the snowy land but without snow falling from the skies. I guess it's just mean that you fight in very cold province, with standart "Cold scale" effects, right?

Also does the province type (mountains, farms, waste, etc.) has any effect on the battle, other than scenary view? I don't think it does but I would like to confirm it.

Thank you in advance for your comments/corrections.

Stormbinder

Re: Weather effects?

after reading all that thread I'm still quiete confused about weather in Dominions 2 ... I try to posto simple question:

1. There are seasons in dom 2 ? How they work ? Where I found the information about that in the game ?

2. There is a possibility to have a sort of probabilistic prediction about the weather in a province ?

3. Does the heat/cold scale have any influence on weather in a province ?

4. We have the same weather all around the world or there are provinces/area with different weather ?

5. What happens if I command a mage to make a spell that work only in a prticular weather and there is another one ?

Thank you anyway

Terrain does not affect the battles.

Storm looks like much rain falling / instead of |.
