new domain name

OK the budget manager (my dear wife) has agreed to let me get ANOTHER domain name so Im not sending everyone to techno-mage.com for all the dominions stuff Im making. So this is a poll of what seems best. Im thinking short, easy to remember, something to do with the stuff Im inolved in such as the dominions games web-signup project or the domains maps projects.

I kindof liked Dommies.com and was disappointed to see it taken. Kindof like the "Dominions for Dummys" book I keep talking about us doing. "We are just a bunch of dommies" http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Actually 2hard4u.com has always been on my list. I was going to make it a unix shell machine but I was afraid someone would think it was ummm.. the wrong kindof site. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

That's how you are going to have to pay for it! Dom2 high quality pr0n. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

I still say put it as whatever you want. If for some ungodly reason you ever need it for another venture it isn't strictly Dom2 related. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

I voted for dominions2.net because I don't know what you want to have in there - if you're hosting games, then dom2games is better, but if it's for general stuff and some downloads, that's basically the best option.

Re: new domain name

I also voted for dominions2.net, for the simple reason it'd be so easy to find and to remember.

Re: new domain name

Somehow I feel I wouldnt do it justice. Someone more web capable should have Dominions2. Illwinter should have it, or Shrapnel. But I guess someone should snag it before it disappears.

I've designed some web pages and graphics in my day....been a while though. I voted for Dominions2.net (surprised it's not taken). As you said, grab it before some jerk does. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif At least Illwinter knows you won't make fools out of them. It will also help because if someone decides they want that name for some reason totally unrelated to this game, Illwinter may lose sales. You could have a big link to Shrapnel at the top of the page.

But remember, if you do that, you have to host everyone's files for them...*chuckle*. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Not bad. Oh wait, Ive got one. How about www.dom2minions.com? I like that. I think I might go with it. Much less embarrassing considering the quality of pages I will put up. If I ever end up with a worthy web site then maybe I will snag one of the better names.

Hmmm I wonder if I can talk the budget manager into letting me have 2. I could just point the dominions2.com name at illwinter or shrapnel for now. I could also make some effort to get it rated higher so that a search of dominions2 will find it higher on the results than the crack houses.

a registrar site had a few tools to try and find you some names. It came up with
Dominionism
Dominionist

Yeah, so I got bored and threw THIS together....though I'm not really pleased with the result. *shrug*

(this web site seems to be very slow, may take a minute or so)

Re: new domain name

I believe it was IW and Shrapnels intent to have it higher rated than crack houses! I mean come on! Public service and all. Plus Dom2 people remind me ever so slightly of people on crack. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Re: new domain name

I think I will find a real cheap register (not totally cheapest, I dont want to lose it). Then I will talk the budget manager into letting me have 2. Dominions2 which I will point at illwinter, and then one I wont feel bad if it looks like garbage. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Wonder if I can get away with using the games logo to sell T-shirts. Maybe the quick-ref file as a mousepad (I love CafePress, every web-site should use it)

Need artistic renderings of the Pretenders! No Pixilated gimpy Pretenders on your T-shirt!

I think everyone should get a Great Mother T-Shirt and wear that badboy to work.

Gandalf Parker January 29th, 2004 04:04 PM

Re: new domain name

OK I probably should not have done a poll knowing my tendency to never go the way the majority votes http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Also I dont feel worthy of doing a website for Dominions2 or DomMap since Im not officially part of either of those. I am willing to host them if anyone wants them. IF I can swing it I might register one or both just so they exist and then point them back at the developers for each.

I think I like Dom2minions.com for a site name. Maybe domgames later for a web-based game signup site.

Re: new domain name

Just to update..
it looks like Im going to get www.dom2minions.com

As soon as I get it and link it the pages will work but if you want to view the work in progress you can check out
www.techno-mage.com/~minion though not all the links work yet.

Yes I know its almost exactly like Illwinters site but that format works well for me. I ramble thru too many off-the-wall projects to try and classify them into logical Groups of any type. For now I will just post updated items as I work on them with a jump-link to a page. Later maybe I will add a fancy front page and move the news one level deeper.

Im still looking for the original author links to the DomMap stuff. The Dom2 Version, the Windows Dom2 DomMap, and the Windows GUI interface. Since these pertain directly to the stuff I do Id like to link when I mention them. And since these are still updating projects Id prefer the authors links if possible.
