Nightly Games and IRC
 

A few forumers and myself play nightly games on a fairly regular schedule.

If you would like a few close or small multiplayer games, or have a hard time playing in some of the other larger games out there, or have an itch to play for a few nights. We're here to provide. Please remember most of these games are to be played in 1-3 nights so that we can start and end games in a fairly quick fashion. Most gaming sessions Last 2-3 hours a night. They start at 11:30 PM EST (4:30 AM GMT).

The IRC channel is #Dom2 on IRCNet. For those in the US use irc.stealth.net 6667.

If you have problems send me an Email at moebius at cableone dot com. I also have access to various other chat programs if you have any problems we'll try to work them out.

Why not just join #dominions in IRCnet? It's established and got bots. Okay, I admit it's mostly populated by finns but we speak english whenever there's even one foreigner around. Also, some of us stay up quite late so you might be able to recruit some finnish pbem vets for your games.

A nightly game is on the docket for starting. For anyone who has 2~4 hours. It's a VP game, have 2 Players need at least 1 more.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Pretty good actually. We were pretty much even until he cast well of misery, but I think I might have pulled ahead thanks to some ice devils. I took an air 2, water 2, earth 3, death 3, blood 3 vampire queen as my pretender, and she's got some pretty good forging ability. Unfortunately, I have not found a single druid's province, so I can't build regen rings for my ice devils.

try irc2.us.ircnet.net

also try port 6666 and 6667 on the various servers (irc1, irc2, stealth)... more often than not it'll work, though IRCNet is a tough cookie at times.

Was going to drop by and get some Dom2 schooling but seem to have problems with IRC. Using Trillian for ICQ atm, trying to get it working with IRC but they all give me a failed to connect. Tried all the addresses listed in this thread but I am not familiar with IRC so I probably have something set wrong.

Would love some MP beatings, any advice ?

I highly doubt that Trillian will get you onto IRC....

Try mIRC.

You will have to tell it to connect to IRCnet (use one of the EU servers or one of the ones in this thread if you're in north america) and then tell it to join #dom2 (you can do this by typing /j #dom2 in any window).

I use both Trillian IRC and mIRC. Both of which don't let me connect at all.

When I was able to connect using mIRC, I was able to connect with Trillian IRC.

I apologize for my unfamiliarity with IRC. I saw that a couple people had problems but, at the same time, it seems a few people get on regularly.

BTW, what I get using mIRC is: "Closing Link: Arryn[unknown@208.190.65.153] (Unauthorized connection)", no matter what server/port is attempted. I haven't changed any of my settings since the Last time I played in one of Zen's games.

It's behaving as if they changed something on the server(s) in the authentication protocols and I'm no longer recognized. Either that, or someone hacked into IRC and did something to spoof IRC into tagging me as a "bad person" to be blocked. Yesterday, one of the Messages I got, which I've not been able to replicate, said something about being "Banned". I wish I'd captured it.

I've only been connected to IRC 3 times, twice for blitz games, and the third time to ask Zen a question.

I don't know of anything outside of the US (as far as servers) but the 3 servers work for me. It may be an issue with your router/firewall?

Trillian does have some problems from time to time, but mIRC always works for me. I really can't say whether one method or the other works.

If any of the IRC guru's know, please speak up for these poor lost souls.

Hmmm Ive avoided IRC for a long time because it was so unsecure. I suppose alot of that is fixed by now (and gotten worse in other areas I suppose). Anyway Im debating, maybe, popping up an IRC server on my ISP machine.

IRC Users maybe can tell me. Would switching to a server just for dominions be no big deal? Or is this something where you would rather have just one server, and have it offer a dominions channel?

I say we either let Gandalf make a server or we switch the server we play on completely. irc.gamesurge.net has never caused me problems.

That pretty much indicates that the problem is with something they've recently done to the IRCnet servers.

Switch nets!

IRCnet has shown itself to be really, really unreliable.

I'd suggest Galaxynet, just because I'm familiar with it, it's pretty stable (occasional netsplits), and they have a channel bot that you can get for auto @ and + in the channel, and various other types of permissions.

I will no longer be on IRCnet http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif I'm on gamesurge, I have the channel regged and everything. From my emails with the IRC host, it seems they will accept anyone from any country so there shouldn't be any issues with getting on a server.

If you are looking for one of the gamesurge servers, I can post the various ones for you to try to connect, but I haven't had any issues at all with getting on them.
