seeking SMALL maps
hi everyone,
im enjoying playing small maps, so my recent games were all played on Orania and the Sundering. Those maps are STILL too big for me (mid/late game) so im looking for maps with approx 20-25 regions, made for MAX 3 players and not so open combat, there should b e some lakes or mountains to give the map depth. It should be some isle, though its not a must-have Does anyone know of any maps that could be made the way i like it ? ty in advance. |
Re: seeking SMALL maps
Have you checked out Talis yet? Take a look at Illwinter's maps page here:

Re: seeking SMALL maps
Illwinters site has Talis, Mirrunst, Ring World.
Or I could run you off a quick 20 or 30 random maps of that size and pop them up on a web page for downloading. They would be ugly. There would be provinces marked as forest and mountains but have no pretty trees and mountain images there. |
Re: seeking SMALL maps
um yeah i was wrong with Orania, i was playing the sundering and the emergence of something back then. sorry
@ Gandalf: What would be PRETTY nice, just 2-3 maps would be enough. They dont have to look nice btw. |

No nice web page. It was a script so I can rerun a batch anytime. There is an index image. And a big jpg of each map. The seperate .tga and .map for each one. And a zip of tga/map together. Good? Its easy to make a change and run it again. |
Re: seeking SMALL maps
Well, for small maps with intense action, nothing beats my 17 province map, intended for use with all 17 nations. It's not much to look at, since I made it with the flood fill and select tools, and therefore it consists of green, blue, and red for province borders, but hey, it's definitely small. Mostly, I use it for testing, but if you really want a SMALL map, I can give it to you.

Norfleet: would be pretty nice. where can i find it ?
@ Gandalf, thanks for the work, but those maps are STILL too big. 50 land and 10 water ? it would be really nice if you could lower that to say 25 land and 5 water, i.e. a max of 30, better 25 provines. thanks you two ! |

http://www.techno-mage.com/~dominion...ndomMaps/tiny/ To me that forces all the strategy to be "my army bigger than your army". No room for strategic maneuvering, choice of provinces for chokepoints, hide-n-seek which is the advantage of some nations. But if there is a need for tiny-fast then I will whip up a batch. I guess I could put this on a daily run with more variations. Let it randomly decide a number 10-50 for land and 2-50 for water? Something like that? |
Re: seeking SMALL maps
Thanks Gandalf, looks promising.
Why i like those maps ? i played several games the Last 2 weeks, and i always like the early and midgame, but when it gets late game i always lose, mainly because ONE enemy is able to conquer one of my provinces and i cant stop him. He just continues to wreck havoc deep within. So i want to play small maps were you cant be overrun by a single army just because you had your troops elsewhere. |
Re: seeking SMALL maps
OK makes sense. I like large maps because it lets me "snake" across the map choosing the provinces based on strategic position. Taking weak ones and purposely leaving strong independents on both sides. that type of thing. Makes it easier for me to halt the path of an incoming army.

Re: seeking SMALL maps
Well I have one that is 6 provinces. It was made as an easy way to edit a couple of armies into the .map file and test them in combat.
