Sound Mod 1.01 Posted

I just posted a pretty extensive sound mod I have been compiling since December. This sound mod will replace all of your original sounds as well as add some new ones. This mod was created primarily with new sounds but also incorporates some of the sounds from two "sound mods" posted previously here (one by Tenryu and the other by ___________)[e-mail me and I will put you here, but I forgot who posted the early Version]. Some of the racial-specific weapon sounds (like the acid globule, enveloping acid, etc.) from the mod posted by Tenryu were created by C. Schaefer for Cyber Warrior and used with the permission of CyberWarrior, Inc. All sounds from the original game have been changed - even if I used the original one, I reformatted it to "16bit, signed, stereo" so it sounds richer. See the readme for details.

As all of my mods are a continual work-in-process, please forward all tweaks, suggestions and bugs found to me at ctraber@ngn-tampa.com.

Have Fun!

Great sounds. Make it a little easier on all of us and upload the NEW component text file.
Then we won't have to do any editing. Thanks

Heres a sick thought. How many of you are familiar with Star Siege Tribes?

Well if your not, bare with me, tis ok. (The only game that I still play two years after its release)

Tribes was the first FPS that was strictly MP based, and it too has a very high degree of customization ability, and has benefited from hundreds if not thousands of mods and utilities.

One area of these mods is in SOUND PACKS. Or more appropriately, taunt packs. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

If you play Tribes, then you know what I am talking about and are currently smiling to yourself.

These taunt packs are packed full of quotes from movies, TV, radio, music, etc. If it has humor, it's in a sound pack.

What would be nice would be to have a real sound pack for SE IV MP edition. I know that Aaron has talked about making a TCI/IP patch for SE IV, and I was just thinking how great it would be to be able to send Messages with sound to your opponents.

(Star Craft style I guess would be the best to base it on)

Anywhooo, its just a thought, and sorry to take up server space with one of my brainless concepts, but what the hay, I got to plug Tribes. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

Tampa - Great Mod!!!! The new sounds are awesome! I think there's a typo in the TXT file. The Telekinetic Projector is using telkproj.wav but the file doesn't exsist, the Small Telekinetic Projector is using telkprj.wav. Not nitpicking, just wanted to let you know.

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I have been swamped working this week (real life http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon9.gif), but I will fix the .txt bug and post a revised components.txt file as soon as I return home later this weekend.

Nice sounds, but it looks like at least two are missing. The Null-Space Projector sound and the Ground Cannon sound aren't anywhere I can find them. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/shock.gif

I like the Rocket Pod sounds and am wondering about the Point Defense sound. Is that supposed to sound like a Vulcan cannon firing? http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

If I'm not mistaken, the Point Defense sound is the 'M41A1 Pulse Rifle with over and under 40mm Grenade Launcher' http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

Straight out of ALIENS.

Tampa:

Great job compiling and creating this sound mod. I've added quite a few of them to my collection.

Yes, it does sound like that.

I'm to find whatever sound effects get used in some space battles in anime series. It's used in quite a few, like the opening battle in the Gundam Wing "Endless Waltz" OAV that aired on Cartoon Network awhile back. It sounds like a few different weapon sounds combined.

Or maybe the original sound effect for the real Wave Motion Gun should go in? http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif

Sinapus - thanks for the catch. I was all set to upload Version 1.02 this morning, but I will have to wait until tomorrow now so that I can grab nulspc.wav from home. That is what I get for splitting it up into 5 zip files!! Anyway, thanks for the feedback. Talenn is correct about the Aliens sounds, although I modified it a lot (time, pitch, reverb, intensity, etc.) so that it would fit into the sound "time window" of the PD cannon firing. B/T/W thanks for posting those sounds Tenryu, but those are not the ones I ended up using - I will post revised pack tomorrow (and will also include the components.txt file in case you don't want to enter the names as suggested below) http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif

(1) fixes a typo in the readme.txt
(2) adds two missing sounds (nulspc.wav and grdcan.wav) [note - these are not the same sounds posted by Tenryu below]
(3) adds my "Components.txt" file in case you do not want to type in all the changed .wav's

Hmmm...I will have to play around with these. I guess I was trying to capture the effect of the spaceships colliding as well since they are ramming into each other, with a muffled explosion in the background to reflect the shaped charge (hypothetical). Tampa_Gamer Sound Mod 1.40
Space Empires IV Gold Version 1.xx
March 6, 2002

This sound mod will replace almost all of your 60 original sound files. I have gone through the new Gold sounds and merged the ones I liked with my previous sound mod. This mod was created primarily with new sounds but also incorporates some of the sounds from two "sound mods" posted previously here (one by Tenryu and the other by ?). Some of the racial-specific weapon sounds (like the acid globule, enveloping acid, etc.) from the mod posted by Tenryu were created by C. Schaefer for Cyber Warrior and used with the permission of CyberWarrior, Inc.

NOTE: With the Gold Version you no longer have to type new .wav files into the Components.txt file, since all of the weapons now have unique wave files. All you do is unzip and go. . .

HISTORY
1.40 Seventh release Version (updated based on Gold sounds, removed Components.txt)

See the readme for more details.

As all of my mods are a continual work-in-process, please forward all tweaks, suggestions and bugs found to me at ctraber@ngn-tampa.com.

Note - this mod is fine to use with the TDM-ModPack, simply place the sounds (wav. files)in the the "TDM-ModPack\Sounds\New" subdirectory (create one if not there).

Have Fun!

Heh. That was something that came to mind when I got a soundfile of bLaster fire from Star Wars and made it the Meson BLaster soundfile.

Actually, I was thinking more like setting a soundfile for a specific weapon mount. So the heavy and massive mounts sounded like Star Destroyer turret fire. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Yes & No - Good question. I mentioned in the readme file that I had included a number of additional, but unused sounds in the directory in case anyone wanted to revert back to the 1.40 Version ones or wanted to try new ones that I had experimented with at one point, but decided to replace. Unfortunately, due to size limitations for e-mail transfers (the file was 40+ MB), I will not be able to upload this until the Shrapnel site is accepting uploads again. Once I get my TDM races complete for the next Version, I will probably have more time and can break it down into chunks - but this would be only if someone is willing to host that big of a file. But the "lite" Version that is posted is the final Version that anyone would need. The "full" Version would only be for those that wanted additional sounds to experiment with, etc.
