I Love This Game

Ever see the NBA Basketball commercials?

Thats how I feel about Dominions 2. I love this game. I don't even want to pick out any one thing I like most.

I just want to let Johan and Kris et al how much I appreciate their effort. Game Rocks.

I agree 100%. If I didn't love the game I wouldn't have gone to all the effort to create and maintain a website for it! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

I agree. Dom 2 is amazing. It's replayable with so many possible play styles and levels of difficulty that they are hard to count.

The diverse units, diverse magics, wondrous magical sites, strategic depth make Dom 2 a real gem.

It will be on my comp...probably until Dom 3 comes out. It replaced MoM as my favorite fantasy genre game, and that's hard to do.

This game is simply a masterpiece, a symphony of mass murder and destruction! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif And you guys...you know who you are...make it even better http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon6.gif . A great game with a greater group of talented people who make Dom 2 even better. I salute you!

Saber Cherry is not referring to Albert Einstein, but "...et AL..." from Ctennyson's original post.

This dwarf has never seen the "al" of Illwinter.

Standing jokes amoung scientists are a problem. I guess like standing jokes amoung any field. It either works, or the explanation is longer than its worth.

I keep making reference to AI meaning "almost implemented" which is in over half of any paper done on AI. (Its a reference to a long list of projects which were AI until they were implemented then they got new names taking them out of AI leaving only un-achieved projects still referred to.)

Or the Priests of Quantum (quantum chaos theory, 11 dimensions, strings and membranes, all of which moves the scientific theories of how everything began back into line with creationism)

That would be what happens when you have a game community that is composed of people sufficiently erudite to actually have heard of and maybe worked with these concepts, as opposed to a game community composed primarily of 12 year olds.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Some of us, such as myself, actually majored in physics. Astrophysics in my case, rather than particle physics, but string theory bears on cosmology, so I'm fairly well-acquainted with it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

OTOH, I have no idea how Gandalf derives a connection to so-called "intelligent design" (aka creationism) from string theory. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif

Where would one find a game community composed of 12 year olds? Is this like...posting on a Playstation 2 board, or something?

LOL.

Reminds me of a system admin we had at our Last ISP who had a degree in astrophysics. The owner used to love to make jokes about "its not like this is rocket science" and "not all of us are rocket scientists"

I am NOT desiring to open that can of worms here but if you are really interested here are some cliff notes.

I'd say Warcraft 3, but after hearing about how bad those forums are and actually looking...
I don't even know how they manage to use a web browser or feed themselves most of the Posts are so painfully stupid. I'm not sure what age you'd have to be to make Posts like that.

And I'm not quite sure I agree with some of the things in your linked text file there...I won't get into a detailed argument, but I don't think quantum theory has "moved things from understandable provable scientific rules" Now admittedly quantum systems behave in a way very much out of the realm of everyday experience so they cannot be understood by simple analogies. And quantum theory is just as provable as the rest of physics...if it wasn't it wouldn't be a theory. Admittedly we can't know exactly if things work like the theory says they do, but the results we get conform with experiment, and that's how we came up with gravitation and everything else.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">12, usually. The fact that they're innately stupid doesn't hurt, either. You're only young once, but stupidity is forever. Look at some of those makes my eyes hurt. I really do miss the old days of computing. Back when you had to be smart to use a computer, because the power switch was hidden in the back. Ah....those were the days.

In the good old days, when you had to make a new config.sys and autoexec.bat for every game, with enough of x free for one, and y free for another. lol. Yeah.

Except that meant I had to do 9 times the work, since I'm the tech support guy in the family http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Yeah, my intro to computers in high school was an IBM 360 mainframe. In those days, you got a *real* feeling of power sitting at the ops console to key in your code, while peons had to use the card reader. And then there were the poor schmucks who had to use paper tape on the PDPs, or worse, the front panel switches (a few years later) on the first IMSAI PCs ...
