Why isn\'t my avatar updating?

I set a URL: http://www.azbanjo.com/argitoth/Pictures/Shrapnel.bmp

and I press "select avatar" and update my profile. Guess what happenes? Nothing happenes. It says I have updated my profile but my avatar remains blank.

Re: Why isn\'t my avatar updating?

Probably, the avatar file should be PNG or JPEG,
at least it seems a logical assumption.

Re: Why isn\'t my avatar updating?

It's a URL, not an upload. The type should have no effect.

Edit: I just tried both, same problem. I shouldn't have to use low-quality jpg anyway. I'm trying to upload a freaken Black and White picture. When I save as JPG it makes grey artifacs.

That's just so stupid... Artifacts on a black and white picture.

So use a 2-color GIF. Rather efficient.

but the issue here is still why my avatar's link isn't staying when I update.

Can anyone tell me how they did their avatar?

Re: Why isn\'t my avatar updating?

I entered the URL, and *poof* there it was.

Most likely your provider does not allow remote-linking.

I'm not sure, but I don't think you can use BMPs as image files. Generally it's JPG or GIF. It may very well simply be rejecting your extension.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">That's another good point. BMP is not an accepted Web format. Only JPG/PNG/GIF are.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Which, of course, they certainly should be doing. BMP files, even for small pictures, are just too large to be used on the web.

I've tried JPG, PNG, and GIF. The file format is not the problem. The problem is my link not staying active after I update my profile. Oh, look at that. A shrapnel avatar works.

it's a few bytes more than a kilobye: 1,036 bytes

Oh hey look at that, I figured out the problem.

Re: Why isn\'t my avatar updating?

The problem was that when I updated the link, it made everything lowercase.

The link was http://www.azbanjo.com/argitoth/Pictures/Shrapnel.GIF

But shrapnel kept changing it to this when I updated: http://www.azbanjo.com/argitoth/pictures/shrapnel.gif

I realized this because I'm just that intuitive. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/blush.gif

And the #1 thing I hate about asking for help: people always giving stupid answers, I don't want to name names, but oh... here's one, "Arryn".

Now Arryn, is it nice to be mean to me when I did nothing wrong to you? Wait, I can answer this one. That would be a no. So get off my damn back, seriosly. I'm tired of your harrassment.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Look, if you don't want people to offer suggestions, don't ask for help. Considering what information you'd supplied, Arryn's suggestion was quite reasonable. A little far-fetched and unlikely, perhaps - but far from possible; and without more knowledge about the particulars than you'd given, it is hard to give concrete advice. Listing a handful of "might be the problem" is the best help you could get.

You're not being polite.

Lief, he has been harrassing me in many other threads, not just this one. But this time I'm saying that it's not right. Before, I was trying to ignore it thinking maybe he would stop, but now I can't take it anymore. I've reached my threshold.

Lief, already you don't even want to consider I am telling a truth. Have you ever considered that just maybe, by a slim chance, I'm not retarted and know what harrassment is and what is not? I'm not trying to be mean to you Lief, just trying to spell it out, make a point.

Your response, however, were you described her offered suggestions as "stupid answers" was impolite and rude.

Re: Why isn\'t my avatar updating?

just bringing my 2c to the discussion:

Cut Argitoth some slack.
I've played several games vs him, had some fruitful discussion about dom2 strategies among other things, and generally had a bLast. Yes, he acts like a teenager in that he is impulsive, but didn't we all? My opinion of him is that he never tried to hurt anyone intentionally and if he did so unintentionally, he always apologised.

I might be biased though, because I started hanging around in the web when I was 12-years old (back in 97), and quicly generated zero tolerance to ppl who think they are better than others just because they are older, and on the other hand have much tolerance to general "teen-agedness"

As for Arryn: just look at your comments of Argi on the Boards and think twice who is being immature. As I said, I dont know how you to date back, but to me it very much seems that you are the one acting immature and Argi is the victim. Yes, you are entitled to an opinion, but you dont have to hammer it down at every possible oppoturnity. Just let him be and everyone will be happier.

She doesn't like you. You don't like her. Big deal. Common courtesy and politeness is partly created for the purpose of dealing with people you don't like - so the fact that you don't like someone is no excuse for being impolite or discorteous - quite the contrary.
