"Godhood" game on mosehansen

My capital has all of three crappy neighbors, and I got staled turn 1.

i.e. I may not be competitive this time out. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

Is there an automated way to let people know the game has started so some people don't lose the first turn in < 24 hour turn around games?

It's quite annoying.

Of course one could start the game oneself, but that limits the possibility of other players rather arbitrarily. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif

I think the best method is to give a heads up in the relevant thread. something like: "ok, we're full. starting at 1800 EST" or whatever.

Who is playing Abysia? Nobody has "claimed" it and he's not taking his turns...

Re: "Godhood" game on mosehansen

Is this a bug or a *new* feature?

Upon a mild change of strategic heart, I tried to overwrite my own pretender well before the start, but the pretender I ended up with is my first Version.

Is this new MP overwrite protection, or just me somehow screwing up?

If the former case, how *does* one amend one's design?

Another day and Abysia is still anonymous and holding up the game. Can we make it AI?

Dunno for Abysya ...

For the Pretender ... I don't believe that it could be not overwritten ... Esben should have modified the code of Dom2 in such case ... and I doubt he can do it ... legally, at least.

Re: "Godhood" game on mosehansen

Does anyone know if abysia has played at all?

Also I'd like to suggest we change the timing to every 24 hours, or even longer.

Every 12 just isn't realistic during the work week.

dunno if abyssia has played. he's probably passworded.

and, yeah, now that the initial few turns have been done I would agree that 12 hr turns are probably too difficult for a number of people. Cohen is the only one who can change this though.

edit: given that we seem to have a stale player, so no early hostings, what about every 18 hrs?

The problem with 18 hour cycles, is that they cycle. Makes it pretty random.

24h makes it a lot easier to remember when the deadline is and seems a lot more civilized.

Changed to 24h QH time.

Re: "Godhood" game on mosehansen

The problem with 24 is that it crawls at a horrible, snailish pace....especially since our resident Abysia refuses to take his turn. 12h host was about right: 2 turns a day: You take your turn before, and then after, you do whatever it is you do. Otherwise, the game sits there stalled, waiting for a player who will never show up. And because of you changing it *NOW*, we won't see another turn until tomorrow night! Even with 12h, everyone made it in on time except the missing Abysia. Now we'd sit there FOREVER.

Abysya is passworded, I PMed Esben

Re: "Godhood" game on mosehansen

That'd be nice if you could get Abysia botted....but it's passworded, and the master password is not enabled on the server. Can Mose even *DO* anything about that?

24 hour max quickhost is fine: But with an AWOL player, what we have is actually just plain 24h turns. That's awful. Ugh.

Dunno what happens if he removes the Abysya.h and other Abysya files from the directory of the server ... the game explode?

Norfleet April 26th, 2004 06:41 AM

Re: "Godhood" game on mosehansen

Absolutely nothing. Merely removing the files will not bot Abysia. Somebody would actually have to hunt him down and kill him.

That's why we should leave it on 12h, at least until Abysia bites it. Everyone was making their turns in time anyway, except Abysia: Making it go even MORE slowly will just mean we sit there staring at it. Unless you want to camp the server control and manually force the host somehow?

force host please.

sergex April 26th, 2004 07:56 PM

Re: "Godhood" game on mosehansen

Cohen can just look at the game and when it's down to just Abysia, go into the webpage and set turns to 1 minute, and then reset it to 12h or 24h as soon as the turn is hosted.

rabelais April 26th, 2004 08:08 PM

Re: "Godhood" game on mosehansen

Is there no "force host-once" option avaiable?

Seems like putting it on a one minute cycle is potentially dangerous.

(Phone rings, kid falls down etc.= wrecked game= bad idea)
