If we could mix DomII with the Graphics of....
I really like DomII but I think this game would put me in the hospital if someday it could
have the graphics of say 'Age of Mythology'.... I think I would pee in my pants.... Oh well just dreaming I guess... |
Re: If we could mix DomII with the Graphics of....
Or how about, tone down the computer crunching backgrounds, and dress up the unit graphics a wee bit?

Re: If we could mix DomII with the Graphics of....
do you have any idea how long it would take to model 1000+ units? Or even to give them all 6 different animations? Guess its a choice between unit variety and prettiness. I'm happy the way it is, seeing as how almost all modern games go with the second option, leaving most with a rather empty feeling unit selection.
However, if Illwinter had 800 graphic artists on staff, it would certainly be cool to see http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif [ May 02, 2004, 05:42: Message edited by: Slygar ] |

Re: If we could mix DomII with the Graphics of....
If they looked like Battle Realms units, my head would explode and moon men (Ether Warriors) would crawl out of my neck-stump to wreak havoc upon the world with Moon baseball bats

.. I meant it in a good way. You know... yeah...
At least they'll kill Hitler. They'll kill him dead BTW, Have you seen Battle Realms? The graphics mop the floor with any of today's games. [ May 02, 2004, 02:16: Message edited by: HotNifeThruButr ] |
Re: If we could mix DomII with the Graphics of....
Battle Realms is cool... I played it a lot...
|
Re: If we could mix DomII with the Graphics of....
Well, not only the possibility of having many units.
Think on: Modules should be far more restricted to skilled graphics, and now even someone with a paintbrush can do one. And having a heavier graphic should be having a more powerful pc ... battles should be very very low at framerate when many units fighting and so on. |

Quit stealing our dreams, man!

Re: If we could mix DomII with the Graphics of....
Now just imagine: MTW: Rome.
Perhaps if instead of modeling every unit they would model humans, vaetti, giants, etc, and then make skin for the different armors and model the different weapons and just combine them? I know, it's still an assload of work, and wouldn't fit on anyhting smaller than dvd, but anyway... |
Re: If we could mix DomII with the Graphics of....
What's MTW: Rome? Is it good as a game?

Graphic is pretty good for Rome though. A trivia: Zen's europe map is borrowed from MTW I believe, with lots of touch-ups and editings to make it work for Dom 2. -Gateway103 [ May 04, 2004, 00:10: Message edited by: Gateway103 ] |

I just popped over to the Rome: Total War website and I think I'm going to crap my pants.

Re: If we could mix DomII with the Graphics of....
Just thinking aloud:
It would be a really big job, but it would look great. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif Tuna is on the right track I'd say. Take basic infantry units for example. Make one human with a very low poly count, then texture him differently and attach the different weapons for the appropriate unit through code. Then you can make the anims for run, swing sword, bow and arrow, etc and have them in a package that gets called with code. I'm thinking of it the way one would make an Unreal Tournament 2004 mod. This is all just theory and dreaming: -Weapon/accessory package that can snap to parts of the body of any model using bones -Infantry package -Cavalry package -giants -spellcasters -assassins -heroes and commanders -pretenders -sooo many more ...wow, imagine the budget you would need to pull that off! Wish I had the money http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif [ May 05, 2004, 04:23: Message edited by: texAnimator ] |
