Melnibonee Mod - Suggestions needed

Hi there!

I'm working on a mod for Vanheim based on the eternal hero chronicles from Michael Moorcock.

Of course I want to field Elric as an (anti)hero. However, I feel unable to balance his magical abilities. If taken directly from the books, he should have more then 5 in every magic paths (he summons multiple elemental queens and even chaos lords, comparable to greater demons). Of course this is way to much for dominions.

What would you give him?

Linked randoms so that he has somewhat different powers each time he appears.

I am not sure if it can be modded yet though.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">I thought about diseased with recuperation. That way he will die if he does not fight over a long period of time or has no regenerating items. But I think we all agree with the base encumberance and the big sword http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Randomly kills other heros and units in the same province ? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Sword should definitely be cursed as well and probably cause attacks of some kind.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Add berserk(+0). Elric has no control over his sword once it starts slicing.

Besides Elric, who perhaps is either a pretender or a starting commander, then what other units would be possible in the mod?

Dont gimp Elric so much that he is useless... remember he is very powerful. 50 enc is a little ridiculous, how would he even move? I hope you meant 5.. The disease/recup seems like a neat idea though.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">I thought about mindless slave troops, some standard HI, very powerful mages (i thought about giving the royal blood, mages which come from the royal family some conjuration bonuses because of the old pacts signed with the elemental forces)and of course sacred dragons. I'm not quite sure yet how to mod their devastating breath attack.

I'm with Slygar. 50 encumberance is a little silly. A crappy encumberance rating is generally around 5, naked. Maybe give him a chest wound, too. That'll give him a rather awful 10. 50 would mean he passes out in two swings. Nobody's THAT bad.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">As long as his sword hits, he should be fine. Just give the damn thing a +12 attack rating or what you like. If Elric can't kill things in one blow he deserves to die ;-).

Hm, 50 enc will put a pretty big crimp on battlefield casting, too. Ouch.

If I remember Stormbringer's abilities correctly, it tended to supercharge Elrick over time as he got more kills in a battle. So is there a way to mod his stats after every kill? Like a cumulative consecutive bonus sort of thing? And of course every kill wipes out his fatigue (kill = reset fatigue to "0").

Also he has a fear effect because the sword sings once it is drawn inspiring fear in it's victims.... fear +5

There is probably some more to come up with as the stories come back to me....

**ADDITION**

Oh and then there's the arctorius stone. The ring of magic passed down in his family line. Maybe have that boost his magical power by 2 in each school of magic and be cursed so it cannot be removed? Just a thought. It also helped him a little bit in terms of stamina before he got the sword.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Well, but as said before, I dont want to make him to powerful in the magical arena.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">I actually thought about 20 Encumberance. If I remember the book correctly, Elric seldom uses magic in battle. Its mostly one big summon and then he starts the melee.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">That sword definitly needs to be uber. It should have some 30+ live draining damage, but then again, things look as if this would make him definitly unbalanced.

Add in the Beasts of Matik. Kind of huge lions with falcon head and wings if I remember correctly.

You could always make it a mixed army. That is, a mix of melnibonean and other units. That would make a large variety of units available.

I could see Elric being a pretender, though it's pretty much the opposite of what he wanted msot of the time. Otoh, Stormbringer was a trapped God, maybe Stormbringer is the actual pretender, that could make some fun dscription text !

My user name actually comes from the Kelmain Host, btw http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

This is a nice idea for a new pretender.

I would actually make him immortal, cause even if the wearer dies, somebody else will take up the sword to serve his purposes.
