Play The World
Welp, it's been awhile since I've had the opportunity to play the World map.
Who's up for a standard issue 24h/quickhost game on The World? Hopefully we can get a lot of players, since this won't be like my early psychomarathons. |

(Although, I -might- be able to borrow someone else'se dialup for brief blips. Am I correct in believing that I can connect to a hosted game, get the .trn file downloaded, quit the game without saving, then play the turn as if it was single player, and connect again to upload the .2h file?) |

Re: Play The World
(Be able to blip in regularly)
Yeh, once I got settled I could blip in pretty easily. But I'd definately be off for 2.5-5 days - my friend thinks he can drive from Tampa to Albuquerque New Mexico in 36 hours, counting breaks, stops, etc. So - think I'll sit out new games. Unless maybe some interesting 48 hour hostings come up, where I could almost certainly not shaft the game. |
Re: Play The World
I'd like to play. I think I will try Pangaea.
|
Re: Play The World
Any pretender allowed? Any house rules?
|
Re: Play The World
I'll play if there's agreement to use the no wish mod.
Otherwise HUGE games devolve into wishwars, which somehow manage to be simultaneously chaotic and tedious. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif Rabe the Ontologically Reserved [ May 07, 2004, 16:26: Message edited by: rabelais ] |

No house rules. No mods. I detest both.

Re: Play The World
Our current list of victims:
Me: Undecided Rev. Zombie: Marignon Vynd: Pangaea Argitoth: C'tis It's a start. Not quite enough to declare it a game yet and begin sign-in, but we're definitely getting somewhere. Keep those sign-ins coming in. |
Re: Play The World
What's the magic site frequency going to be?
|
Re: Play The World
Unless there's some immense objection, the settings will be the standard MP-accepted settings: sites-50, indy-6, randoms rare(huge map).
|
Re: Play The World
I'll play abysia. A huge map should give me some prime learnin, since i'll be able to expand a bit before encountering others.
|
Re: Play The World
I will take Vanheim, but on a map that big, I
lay my bet on whoever plays Ermor. And yeah, it WILL end as a wishwar... but I hope I will enjoy the first part of the game. Petar |

I'll take jotunheim

Me: Undecided Rev. Zombie: Marignon Vynd: Pangaea Argitoth: C'tis Tuidjy: Vanheim Vigabrand: Jotunheim Cheezeninja: Abysia Okay, we're getting a fair collection of players here. Just remember: By signing up, you're committing to play regularly. I highly frown on people who go unexpectedly AWOL, and will permanently blacklist you from games if you do, and spread the warning to others. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Let's hope that won't be necessary. |
Re: Play The World
I would like to Join as Mictlan.
I can play on a regular basis most of the time. I have no big vacation planed in the near future. It's possible however that on some of the weekends I would be traveling with no internet connection. If that's cool then I'll gladely join, otherwise I wish you all a great game. |
Re: Play The World
We'll keep you in mind for Mictlan. How often does random travelling occur on weekends?
I think I shall go with Caelum. |
Re: Play The World
Will the game start after saturday?
If so, I may like to play as the n'arco's. And why is everyone so afraid of ermor? Indy priests and fire magic is all you need, surely? |

"How often does random travelling occur on weekends?"
Not very often. About one time every month and usually I'm less then 24h without internet connection. |
Re: Play The World
Right, then that shouldn't be a problem.

Caelum! CAELUM! I am *CAELUM*. Not SG Ermor. Why, did you want to be SG Ermor? Give the strategy a spin for a bit, see how well the shoe fits right before I kick you in the head with it? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Sign-in has been brought Online at kludgemush.com 10629. Let's get signed in, ladies! |
Re: Play The World
forgive my ignorance, but what do you mean by sign up at kludgemush.com? I go there and get something about a vanishing ninja? Sorry, just fairly new here.
Vig |
Re: Play The World
It's not a website: You just connect to the game, within Dominions II, using the Network option: Enter the hostname (kludgemush.com), and the port (10629), and it will take you to the sign-in screen. Upload your god there. Don't upload into the wrong slot....or I'll have to shoot you. Periodically repeat this procedure if you change your own god, or just in case somebody overwrote you, until the game begins.
|
Re: Play The World
Okay, only players that remain to sign is Pangaea.
If there are no objections, we will commence as soon as all players are in. The first turn will not be timed, to give everyone time to gather and send in their turns, and the timer will be engaged starting from turn 2. |
Re: Play The World
To avoid the possibility of people ending up starting in really retarded places, I have gone through the map and #nostarted all of the really ****ty locations, like New Zealand and Hawaii, and any other place with fewer than 4 neighbors. Nobody should be given an unplayable start as a result.
No action is required on the part of the players: Just make sure you have downloaded the relevant TGA, World, from Illwinter's site. Both the Illwinter original Version and the Torvakian map are compatible and interchangeable. Use whichever you like. [ May 18, 2004, 07:17: Message edited by: Norfleet ] |
Re: Play The World
I'm heading home for the weekend, so there may be athree day period where I can't connect to the server.
|
Re: Play The World
Ack, sorry for the delay, guys. I thought I'd done this already. I will send my Pretender as soon as I get home from work (sadly for me, a good 8 hours from now).
|
Re: Play The World
Okay, we'll wait until Graeme returns before we begin the carnage. This will give us some time to see if we can't pull extra victims.

Re: Play The World
Hmmm. What makes this game different in way that makes you say I might not want to join it?
|
Re: Play The World
Probably due to your evangelistic crusade against clams, whereas I do not share your views on the matter, and won't pass enforceable house rules on the matter.
|
Re: Play The World
Oh, I see. Heck no, I can play in games with no house rules. For me, certain house rules are a preference not a requirement.
I'll join as Man, with the expectation of being knocked out around turn 30 by some VQ-wielding, clam-hoarding nation playing to win. No problem http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif PS I guess you meant "unenforceable" [ May 19, 2004, 00:49: Message edited by: Zapmeister ] |
Re: Play The World
Hey, are you still looking for victims?
I have 3-4 friends who just got their copies and might want to join... But I warn you, I am not particularly good myself, and I can take all of them together... So they will be cannon fodder. Petar |
Re: Play The World
The game hasnt started yet and pythium, tien chi, and machaka are still open. So claim your race and join in like everyone else.

Re: Play The World
I should point out that I'll be away next weekend, and maybe the one after that too...though I can probably get someone to take care of things whilst I'm away. If anyone objects to this please say so now http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Re: Play The World
Since I don't see anyone rushing to sign up, and Graeme is due to be back Real Soon Now(tm), we're starting: The first turn is untimed to give everyone a chance to gather.

Re: Play The World
I'm dropping out actually, since I have no way of ensuring that you haven't modified the map file to your advantage, and I've just read in this thread that you've admitted to modifying the map file.

Re: Play The World
Sometimes, I am glad that I do not care so much about losing. Just imagine, dropping from a game that I am supposed to enjoy, just because I suspect that someone modified the map so that he could win.
Of course, I am also glad that I do not care so much about winning. Because modifying the map to give myself an advantage would be rather scary, as well. By the way, how would modifying the map make any difference, given that I downloaded the map from the official server? Re: Play The World
I doubt Norfleet modifies the map to win ... he's strong too on Mosehansen games, where he've no access to the map!
However this is only my opinion ... I simply don't have fun winning by cheating, and usually expect the other to think like me (oh ... tell me I'm still a child http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif ) ... well I know isn't always that way, but this gaming community seems serious. |
