Play The World

Welp, it's been awhile since I've had the opportunity to play the World map.

Who's up for a standard issue 24h/quickhost game on The World? Hopefully we can get a lot of players, since this won't be like my early psychomarathons.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Tempting, but ... Especially with the World map I'm going to pass. June 3 I'll be moving crosscountry, probably without internet for a week or two at least, which would kinda screw up any games I was in.

(Although, I -might- be able to borrow someone else'se dialup for brief blips. Am I correct in believing that I can connect to a hosted game, get the .trn file downloaded, quit the game without saving, then play the turn as if it was single player, and connect again to upload the .2h file?)

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">That's right. Although you'd have to be able to blip in regularly.

(Be able to blip in regularly)

Yeh, once I got settled I could blip in pretty easily. But I'd definately be off for 2.5-5 days - my friend thinks he can drive from Tampa to Albuquerque New Mexico in 36 hours, counting breaks, stops, etc.

So - think I'll sit out new games. Unless maybe some interesting 48 hour hostings come up, where I could almost certainly not shaft the game.

I'll play if there's agreement to use the no wish mod.

Otherwise HUGE games devolve into wishwars, which somehow manage to be simultaneously chaotic and tedious. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

Unless there's some immense objection, the settings will be the standard MP-accepted settings: sites-50, indy-6, randoms rare(huge map).

Okay, we're getting a fair collection of players here. Just remember: By signing up, you're committing to play regularly. I highly frown on people who go unexpectedly AWOL, and will permanently blacklist you from games if you do, and spread the warning to others. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Let's hope that won't be necessary.

I would like to Join as Mictlan.
I can play on a regular basis most of the time.
I have no big vacation planed in the near future.
It's possible however that on some of the weekends I would be traveling with no internet connection.
If that's cool then I'll gladely join, otherwise I wish you all a great game.

Norfleet May 11th, 2004 10:16 PM

We'll keep you in mind for Mictlan. How often does random travelling occur on weekends?

I think I shall go with Caelum.

If so, I may like to play as the n'arco's.

And why is everyone so afraid of ermor? Indy priests and fire magic is all you need, surely?

We'll count you in for Arco.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">I'm not. Ermorians are flammable and conduct electricity, just like everyone else. Well, okay, Abysians aren't flammable. But they still conduct electricity, which is the important thing.

Re: Play The World

It's not a website: You just connect to the game, within Dominions II, using the Network option: Enter the hostname (kludgemush.com), and the port (10629), and it will take you to the sign-in screen. Upload your god there. Don't upload into the wrong slot....or I'll have to shoot you. Periodically repeat this procedure if you change your own god, or just in case somebody overwrote you, until the game begins.

Norfleet May 18th, 2004 08:11 AM

Re: Play The World

Okay, only players that remain to sign is Pangaea.

If there are no objections, we will commence as soon as all players are in. The first turn will not be timed, to give everyone time to gather and send in their turns, and the timer will be engaged starting from turn 2.

Norfleet May 18th, 2004 08:15 AM

Re: Play The World

To avoid the possibility of people ending up starting in really retarded places, I have gone through the map and #nostarted all of the really ****ty locations, like New Zealand and Hawaii, and any other place with fewer than 4 neighbors. Nobody should be given an unplayable start as a result.

No action is required on the part of the players: Just make sure you have downloaded the relevant TGA, World, from Illwinter's site. Both the Illwinter original Version and the Torvakian map are compatible and interchangeable. Use whichever you like.

Oh, I see. Heck no, I can play in games with no house rules. For me, certain house rules are a preference not a requirement.

I'll join as Man, with the expectation of being knocked out around turn 30 by some VQ-wielding, clam-hoarding nation playing to win. No problem http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Sometimes, I am glad that I do not care so much about losing. Just imagine, dropping from a game that I am supposed to enjoy, just because I suspect that someone modified the map so that he could win.

Of course, I am also glad that I do not care so much about winning. Because modifying the map to give myself an advantage would be rather scary, as well.

By the way, how would modifying the map make any difference, given that I downloaded the map from the official server?

I doubt Norfleet modifies the map to win ... he's strong too on Mosehansen games, where he've no access to the map!

However this is only my opinion ... I simply don't have fun winning by cheating, and usually expect the other to think like me (oh ... tell me I'm still a child http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif ) ... well I know isn't always that way, but this gaming community seems serious.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">I am not in your game but honestly I wouldn't be very surprised if Norfleet would do something along these lines. In our recent game "Ice and Fire" Norfleet's behavior was highly unethical, to put it mildly. He was also caught several times on straight lying and was forced to admit it. Frankly I was rather shocked since I didn't expect it from him.
