Wishing for Demons

I was playing Soul-Gate as ermor, and I set all dominion stuff, related to living, to sloth-3, chaos-3, death-3, luck to 0, and magic to +3, then I decked out my lich queen with level 3 nature, 3 fire, 7 death, and 7 astral. I got to the point of casting Wish around turn 50, so I got the idea to summon Bargraphal or however you spell the worm-looking demonlord, several times. Then I used Gift of Reason to make him a super trooper. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif I was wondering, shouldn't there be a limmit to them though? Since there are only three... or did I just clone a demon, incurring the wrath of the underworld. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

Re: Wishing for Demons

Did you make TWO of them, or just one? You may have just cloned a demon, and done a very very bad thing.

Re: Wishing for Demons

Unique is only the name 'Belphegor'. Not 'Lord of Hell'! So you can wish/GoR as many Lord of Hell as you want. Same count for all other uniques including djinns.

Wish is a very powerful spell!

Re: Wishing for Demons

The more interesting question: Does the existence of a wished "Lord of Hell" prevent the manifestation of the Belphegor normally? If you wish for a "Lord of Hell", or whatever, will it now be impossible to summon him normally as well?

calmon June 21st, 2004 11:17 AM

Re: Wishing for Demons

If you wish for 'Lord of Hell' he got a random name after Gift of Reason. This name isn't 'Belphegor' so you can cast him regular.

Norfleet June 21st, 2004 11:20 AM

Re: Wishing for Demons

You can rename Belphegor, too. That's not really a definitive reason: The bigger question is: Does summoning a limited-edition summon check for the presence of their existence, and the means by which they appeared is irrelevant, or is it that casting the summoning spell sets a flag of some kind? If the former, then wishing for a Belphegor clone would block the creation of Belphegor by the the normal Bind Demon Lord spell, whereas if the latter, then what does the game use to determine which is the real Belphegor and whether to enable Belphegor again when he bites it....

Re: Wishing for Demons

I tried it out and i'm surprised... a wished 'hord of hell' prevents the casting of the normal one! Even if the name isn't Belphegor. You can wish hundreds lord of hell but with only 1 of this clones in play 'bind demon lord' doesn't bring Belphegor.

Re: Wishing for Demons

Wishing for another Belbhegor while one isalready in play should propably 'steal' the first one, like unique items are. But should he then come as normal unit, or as a commander with all things he had before? I can see arguments being made for both...

Re: Wishing for Demons

if you wish several belphegor do they all then get 3 blood slaves / turn ? if you are patient enough / play a large enough map you could then get a decent blood income as an undead nation like ermor / carrion woods pangenea http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
i'll try it anyway soon http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
if it really works i agree it needs a fixing for mp but for sp it is a nice feature i think http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">You'd be better off wishing for blood slaves, since that way will get you 250 of them.

Probably every unique summon can be wished for so on ... figure a game with tons of Air Queens or such things.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">it would probably be better than a game with tons of doom horrors.... Or at least very similar.

I have had much success with lords of hell in 1v1 combat with doom horrors when i was doing some testing however. Yes he does get his 3 blood slaves per turn, which allows you to script him to cast blood vengeance in every battle if you have lvl9 blood. Add to that the fact that he gets earth and fire magic and more slots than a doom horror and you have a pretty nasty SC.

Of course he only has 3 strategic move as compared to the Doom Horrors 8.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">A nasty thing. Huge ethereal, soul-slaying (natural weapon), life-draining, frightening (+20 propably) unit with amazingly high stats (atleast 15+, I don't recall if they actually were over 20) and strategic move of 8... Oh, and they fly. And they cause bad events where ever they are located. And... they have natural Blood Vengeance! :eep:

They cannot be gotten except by Wishing. They can attack your mage if he is Horror Marked and casting expensive rituals like Enchanted Forest wearing Forbidden Light while Astral Corruption is on. That is, with everything versus him and being very unlucky on the top of that.
BTW, I haven't checked them in some time. But I remember they were well worth the name... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

thnx for the info Gateway103 and Endoperez http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
are there any other such ubercreatures which can be only summoned per wish ?
and in sunrays dominions lib i found the following information :
"(Pretender name)" : you get that pretender, with default magic and abilities (Daughter of the Land gets gems, Moloch gets imp, Ghost King gets ghosts, etc).

so unlike wished creatures like an arch demon pretenders have their default magic abilities too ? and can you wish several pretenders of the same type like 10 PoD's or only 1 of each type ?
and finally can you wish as ermor e.g. vampire queens ?

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">The other Horrors (including the King of the World). Ashen Angels. Lammashtas. Ancient Presences. And a few others. None of these come close to the power of a Doom Horror though.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Actually you 'Wish' for an unit type, and pretenders aren't different from militia in that regard. Whatever you wish for, the unit will always appear with its default abilities and/or magic skills, although you have to use GoR on it to benefit from these. Bottom line: you can wish for as many 'Militia' or 'Prince of Death' or 'Green Knight' or 'Troll Raider' as you want - they're just unit types.

I always like checking on my Posts after I get my internet torn away for a couple days, sorry if I didn't comment on it after I first posted. My internet is unstable at best, to answer your question, Norfleet, yes, I did wish for several. I think I used "Demon Lord Baphgragal" (I still can't spell his name from memory, always have to check my old games.) Then I GoR-ed him, he always had the Baphregal name, it never changed.
