Oi! Who\'s being mean to my elephants?
While accompanying my priestesses on ward rounds recently, I discovered to my dismay that well over 50% of our elephants had had both eyes poked out. Naturally we were all distressed about this - Elephants are, after all, our friends.
Are some battle aflictions more common than others, or is there some sneaky magical trick I should be looking out for? I can see a priestess with a gleam in her eye and a nasty looking sacrificial dagger in her hand. She wants to know the answer, and I think there could be trouble when we find the culprit... |

I've only been fighting Indies and Abysia.

Re: Oi! Who\'s being mean to my elephants?
Other people can learn blindness, too.
Was it simply the Blindness affliction, or was it Lost one eye and Lost the other eye too? PvK |
Re: Oi! Who\'s being mean to my elephants?
If it's just Blindness, that's probably from the Blindness spell.
If it's the second, then there are two or more magic items which target eyes (eye shield, and I think a ranged weapon, and maybe some others). PvK |

Re: Oi! Who\'s being mean to my elephants?
If you're seeing a lot of units missing both eyes, somebody is likely firing a Vision's Foe at you: It's a crossbow that instantly puts out all of the eyes of the target (probably with bolts that fragment before impact) on a hit.

Re: Oi! Who\'s being mean to my elephants?
You probably ran into some of Machakan mages. Machaka starts with Blindness spell.

Re: Oi! Who\'s being mean to my elephants?
I do like the line for the spider riders of Machaka when they lose one eye, but are not totally blinded. “Has lost a bunch of eyes.” It is those little touches that make this game so wonderful.

Re: Oi! Who\'s being mean to my elephants?
spiders' eyes
Actually, if the spider loses one eye, the line says "lost an eye". But as they have eight of them, they shurely could "lose of couple of" them before becoming blinded. The cyclops has only one eye to lose... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif blinding elephants .. it might be pure coincidence, but I'm under the impression the flyers which attack with claws (hawks, harpies) go for the head first and have an increased chance to inflict the "lost an eye" affliction. After all, their overall damage and chance to inflict "critical" damage is rather low, but I think I observed an extraordinarily amount of "picked eyes" with Pangaean harpies. But it could be wishful thinking as well .. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon6.gif [ June 29, 2004, 04:32: Message edited by: Arralen ] |

However if spider loses rider (no rime http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif ) all afflictions are his own. For example, if spider with rider http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif gets diseased he will slowly lose his hp until the rider dies. After that a spider will remain healthy (and no disease!). |

Re: Oi! Who\'s being mean to my elephants?
Hmm, I could be wrong, but I distinctly remember the “one eye missing” wound to give a unique and memorable line to the effect of “a few eyes missing.” The spider in question was busy getting sliced to pieces by my team of dedicated clockwork horrors and had recently lost his rider. I was curious why he was taking so long to die and remember thinking, “hmm, maybe they need to cut off all eight legs as well.” Rest assured, the legs were soon removed and Stinky, the Carrion Dragon, soon ruled all.

Re: Oi! Who\'s being mean to my elephants?
I think this is a myth. Lost eyes are one of the more common afflictions, regardless of what's inflicting them. Odds are generally pretty good that the first affliction a unit sustains will be "lost an eye".

If you're referring to the game where I beaten you, my Virtue had Eye Shield.
