MP Game - Anyone interested in a *really* slow game? *full and running**

I was thinking about something like 96h with quickhost, so that it *can* be fast while at the same time everyone gets the chance to take of a weekend.

However, such a game would take quite a while to complete, and I'd find it unfair to block a space on Mosehansen (not that there's a chance of one being free, anyway), and I for one do not have the resources leaving my computer run Online for the next year.

Nevertheless, if enough people are interested, we're certainly going to find a suitable server. Even if that means risking Norfleet giving the game a snarky name. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

I'd be interested, depending on the size of the map and amount of house rules.

Re: MP Game - Anyone interested in a *really* slow game? *full and running**

i too would be interested. I find myself staling at least one turn per 2 weeks in my 24h quickhost games because of the requirement for frequent binge drinking when your enlisted in the military.

On a completely unrelated topic, Im never drinking again! Or at least probably not for the rest of this week.

I'm interested! I really want to try a new race, but I'm in several games already, so this would be ideal in letting me do so without overloading.

I'm very interested in a slow paced game! Actually I had asked here for 99h-QH game before...and it turned into 24h-NQH http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

EDIT: Oh, and I would prefer a smaller map fitting the number of players, but I would also take part with a big map...

Re: MP Game - Anyone interested in a *really* slow game? *full and running**

Yes, definitely keeping it slow, and 96h quickhost from the beginning, with no alteration whatsoever.

I am personally offended by most houserules, but here's my suggestion for general guidelines:

Open diplomacy via email allowed, if a player is observed stalling two consecutive turns (that's at least 192 hours), he's turned AI via a masterpassword unless he notifies the rest.

Standard research, common events, indeps 6, no starting positions, victory by vp with a nice scattering of 1-3vp provinces.

These are my suggestions. However, short on time as I am, I'd loath to organize it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif And, as I said, I can't really provide a server. Anyone stepping forward voluntarily?

It could be PBEM, so the host just needs an email account.

Well, I'm in, if you don't mind my total n00bity. I've only played two multiplayer games thus far, against even ranker amateurs than myself.
PbeM sounds like the logical thing to do.

Chazar July 23rd, 2004 11:21 AM

Re: MP Game - Anyone interested in a *really* slow game? *full and running**

PBEM is ok for me, but that would certainly disable quickhosting for getting it started... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

Anyway, I'd like to play for Caelum if nobody else objects.

What map?

I would also like to join --- perhaps trying my hand at Arco again?

Using my server would be fine IMHO --- especially if everybody agrees to turn AI before quitting and the game is on quickhost.

Just say the word and I'll take the first slot that I see...

As for the map let me propose urgaia... let it be bloody!

Or we could ask Norfleet for hosting and a nice snarky name like "We're Not Dead, Just Veryyy Slow". http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif I suggest this because it can take quite some time for one of your slots to come open, Esben - a sign of its popularity. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Re: MP Game - Anyone interested in a *really* slow game? *full and running**

Well, I didn't want to hog your server for a year. But if you're in yourself, well, that'd be a great solution.

I already play two pbem games at the moment, and even as a player, pbem games tend to add micromanagement. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif And I rather like quickhosting, given that the time interval is big enough.

I am comfortable with Urgaia, and would choose the squishies if anyone else plays Atlantis (else I'd propose to stick to land-based nations to keep it bloody). My land-based choice would be Marignon.

Re: MP Game - Anyone interested in a *really* slow game? *full and running**

Well, we could fit 12 into Urgaia just as easily as 11, since some people will probably start with a capital right next to theirs anyway - a real brawl. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif (It's possible to manually fit 11 or 12 into Urgaia so that there's a province between each capital, but random placement is unlikely to manage it well.)

Erm - Urgaia is probably just a _bit_ small. Cradle of Zen (or regular Cradle) would be better, as would Parganos, or Karan, or Inland, or Arduria, or hey! Theater of War!

Or we could go with the 17 province test map, if we _really_ want a brawl. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Abysia and Broken Empire Ermor both sound good. I'm willing to get second dibs on one of the two. No real preference.

Update: Second the bigger map suggestion. Granted, the game would NEVER END, even with VP based victory conditions, but at least nobody'd get eliminated within the first four or five turns.

Updated update: If we do end up going for an Orania-sized map, I'll be Mictlan.

You heard me.

Yet another update: Whoops, didn't notice Abysia was taken. Ermor or Mictlan it is, then.

Everybody: Please update this post instead of posting your nation randomly. I've collected what I could from the thread, but two players have stated multiple preferences (rabaleis and viciuos something). Also, please vote map.

And please reconsider the large maps. Being eliminated isn't so bad, you can just join another game. But becoming an insignificant byplayer is not much fun, and many will drop out if that happens. So, please, please, not Orania. Urgaia may be too tight, but Orania is HUGE.

So, this leaves three spots open. Cheezeninja, KroolDeath and littlemute all announced interest in the beginning of the thread. What's your preferred nations?

Unclaimed nations are: Atlantis, Pythium and Jotunheim.

Since it looks like we use Karan, my suggested VP spread: 15 vps for victory, capital vp, 10 1-vp-provinces, 5 2-vp-provinces, 2 3-vp-provinces.

Maybe cut down to 12 vps for victory. I like hotspots. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

So the closet we can get to your suggestion is 25VP (the max!)+captital VP (11--14extra). That's close to 40 VP. So 12--15 victory points to win seems reasonable to me. Any other comment? Otherwise I'll roll a D4 and add it to 11 to get the number victory points to win http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
