MP Game - Belle Air - now underway

mosehansen.dk port 2277

Karan map, Indy 8, magic sites 50
renaming enabled, HOF 15
25 hour quickhost

House rules: no caelum, no watchtowers or mausoleums. you want a cheap fort? then ya gotta plunk down the nation points http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Looking for 8 players or so.

Victory Conditions: take 3 capitols of vanquished pretenders, while maintaining your own. That is, capitols only count if the nation in question's god no longer exists. (this number may be changed depending on how many nations are playing, and upon the general will of the participants)

since i'm starting the game, and w/ house rules, i'll let a few others choose their nations first.

I don't understand why no caelum. the mages? I guess i was thinking about their mobility, in which case I am confused why atlantis and ry'leh would be ok.

ehh just tired of the ease of setting up wrath squads. really i originally wanted to use zen's updated cradle map, where caelum has an unfair advantage, and the no-caelum rule just kind of hung around in my head http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

i could remove that rule if the players want. no biggie.

as to R'lyeh and Atlantis - I was never convinced that they had such an advantage on Karan, due to the difficulty in pushing their dominion up those waterways. especially w/ indy 8 tritons...

I would have taken Vanheim as my first choice, but would gladly take one of Ermor, R'lyeh, Man, Pangaea, or Jotunheim, by order of preference. There is a caveat: this would be my first mp game, so you may not want a possible spoiler due to my inexperience.

ozymandias, tauren, thaufer, and krooldeath: just connect to mosehansen.dk port 2277 and upload your pretenders. then go to the mosehansen page for the game, and register yourself as the player for said game (this is almost optional for someone who's registered in this thread, but its nice and potentially helpful).

no house rules about clams or fever fetishes.

Ozymandias, if you want ermor, just upload your pretender at mosehansen and post back here.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">In these specific conditions, or in general? In general, it is generally not disputed that Tien Chi is among the weakest nations. Their magical abilities can be compared to a flooded parking lot: Lots of breadth, but absolutely no depth. In these specific conditions, any nation that would ordinarily benefit greatly from Mausoleums or Watchtowers, due to use no-resource troops, that now can't take them and is thus overcharged in both nation points and gold for a castle that adds only useless features, is screwed. Nations that cannot or should not take a watchtower or mausoleum, or have a cheap substitute that isn't one of the above, benefit greatly.

Ok, guys. Heads up. I will probably go stale Saturday as I will be out of town, so a couple of things:

1) I apologize. I'm sure I'm not the only one to ever go out of town, so I can't be the only one to have an occasional stale turn (I'll hit Friday and Sunday no problem). But it is my first MP game so thought I would mention it. Its not a drop. I won't drop...I used to spend $6.50 every two weeks playing Middle-Earth PBM even with a losing nation until the bitter end.

2) Don't take advantage of me http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Re: MP Game - Belle Air - now underway

There are nine pretenders up but it says Ermor is Norfleet and there are no water nations. If Ozymandius takes Ermor and Norfleet moves to R'lyeh, that would make ten and I'd be out. But if Norfleet is sticking with Ermor and I get a response before the game starts I'll take Atlantis. I don't really like any of the Atlantis pretenders but I don't feel like playing R'lyeh.

Re: MP Game - Belle Air - now underway

lol

so far i'm not sure if ozymandias has tried to upload. norf hasn't relinquished the slot by going "anonymous". i'll go w/ the general will on what should happen - but as things stand now, there is an open water slot. If ozymandias shows, i can always kick open the slot.

krooldeath: on 25 hour quick host, its possible that you might not stale a turn. lets say you get in a turn friday evening, but the Last guy doesn't get his in until sat morning - then your next turn won't be absolutely due until sunday morming. otherwise, don't worry about it - one stale turn isn't so bad, IMO.

Is Kelp Fortress a watchtower and Dark Citadel a mausoleum? That wouldn't leave Atlantis with many options. One to be exact.

ozymandias, upload your pretender and register the nation as your own on the mosehansen page
https://www.mosehansen.dk/cgi-bin/do...game=belle_air

also djtool and thufir, please claim the "anonymous" nation in your name on the mosehansen belle_air page

if norf is out, then his secondary desire for r'lyeh is vitiated, and yossar should upload Atlantis.

Can I ask the defintion of "25 hr Quickhost"? If I were to speculate (based on nothing other than wishful thinking), I'd hope that it meant that as soon as everyone submitted their turn, the turn was hosted immediately. If everyone has not submitted their turn, then the turn is processed on the 25th hr after the Last turn was processed. Am I correct?

the great advantage of quickhost is that, in the early game when turns are short, it allows the game to proceed at a reasonable pace if all the participants are on the ball.

well, nor, how can i be "hogging" if i set up one game? hogging implies the sin of gluttony.

actually, i didn't feel much need to join in as there was such a rush of people who wanted to play. As well, norfleet had said that he wanted to play, and i'd still rather avoid games w/ him for the time being. Not that I wanted to go w/ a "no norfleets" house rule either.

anyways, the game seems to have started a bit slow. hopefully tomorrow you guys can pick up the pace a bit, and get more of the easy early part of the game out of the way.

enjoy.
