Big Fat Bug
Seems that AI now is filling all the empty space on ship with Armor III even if the tech has NOT been researched. This means that all the designs that are not 100% full with other components are going to have armor III on them and will not be build until that tech is researched (and since AI almost never researches it, it will be very late in the game). I think it is already time for 1.28 Version http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif.
Btw. I am just about to send a savegame with explanation to MM. |
Re: Big Fat Bug
WOW - I wonder how that slipped past the testers. . .they must play in tech3 starts or perhaps it was caused by a Last minute add without testing (been there done that). Hopefully this will get fixed ASAP, as that pretty much kills any single-player game.

Good work Daynarr.

Re: Big Fat Bug
Just got to work - checked board and LUCKY DAY the patch is out...
now the bad news - the BIG FAT BUG!!! Is this something that can be modded out of the data files? I assume it is, but I don't want to download this little patch if it'll screw up my 1 player games. I'll check back later for any info - I'm off to continue to pick a jury - yea! ps - I finally made Sarge - still haven't gotten my Corp stripes though... ------------------ Character is best defined as that which you do when you believe nobody is watching. |
Re: Big Fat Bug
Just spotted the Armour III problem myself, but, have not had a look yet to see if we (the people) can mod it out. Have been reviewing the data files, most of which do not seem to have any received any significant alterations (ie new fields), but, there have been a few nice additions though - default number of ships, units etc)...

Re: Big Fat Bug
Well, the only way to skip this is to make Armor tech available at the very start of the game and make all AI's research level III first. It is quite a lot of work, but it can be done. I will do that if the fix doesn't come out very soon.
Btw. I have sent a mail with save game 5 minutes ago, so hopefully we won't have to wait for too long for the fix. |
Re: Big Fat Bug
Not good. Hope MM gets a kwik fix out. It will screw me totally for sure. I only play the computer.
Glad now I haven't had time to install the patch. Later guys. |
Re: Big Fat Bug
Well, I guess if you add some other techs in like projectile weapons for the AI to research while going to lvl 3 Armor you can have it design some decent weapon platforms.
Hmm... now I have an excuse for adding projectile weapons 3, smaller weapons 3 and explosive warheads 3 to the head of the list... Wow, this cloud does have a silver lining. http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/ima...ons/icon12.gif (I hate running into fighters w/nothing but a wimpy Small DUC I. Re: Big Fat Bug
What if you use the builtin options at the start of the game to turn armor technology off. Does this alleviate the problem?

Re: Big Fat Bug
You should be able to mod it out. I always thought that you could have ai use anything to fill up space? I haven't downloaded the patch yet, but I guess I'll do it now and try to fix this problem.

Re: Big Fat Bug
Hey Everybody!
As Richard said, there will be a "NEW" Version 1.27 posted tommorow morning. This will fix the AI armor problem and will tweak one little data problem with the Anti-Proton Beams. To be sure you have the right Version, check your history.txt file. The correct Version lists 4 items under Version 1.27. Thanks for the quick bug report! Aaron |

Re: Big Fat Bug
You guys kill me,
Yes there is a bug with the patch. Not really a major one just an obvious one and yet everyone is acting like the rest of the patch is worthless. Aaron spends hours upon hours and all I have heard is "oh the patch came out with a bug" "I'll mod it out" I'm sure Aaron will fix it so keep your shorts on. Sheesh! ------------------ Seawolf on the prowl |
Re: Big Fat Bug
Seawolf,
I think if you were to reread the Posts about the new patch and the bug that was found so far, no of them were making it sound like it was a big deal. It was just an announcement to this community. You have been on this board for a long time, and you should know by now that everyone on this board respects and appreciates the amount of time Aaron AND the testers devote to this game. My statement of modding out the problem just goes to prove the point that the bug was no big deal and instead of taking up Aaron's time with a such a small problem, we as a community had offered to fix it ourselves. I just hope next time you realize that topics like this are meant to help and announce a problem and not complain about them. [This message has been edited by SunDevil (edited 21 February 2001).] |
Re: Big Fat Bug
Richard's response is why I love this forum and this game.
Seawolf's response is rather shocking. As Sundevil said, Seawolf has been around a lonnnnnnnng time and this is the only time he's gone off on someone. Must be having a bad day. If the New 1.27 is comin out tonite, we'll just have to download it then (us US folks should be working anyway) ps - Keep up the good work on the game/mods ------------------ Character is best defined as that which you do when you believe nobody is watching. |
Re: Big Fat Bug
That was the MM in person!!!
|
Re: Big Fat Bug
Well, since the MM is going to fix this problem in no time and this post has served its purpose, I propose to Moderators to erase this post - it can make people get wrong idea about the patch and the game, and I will try to pick my post names more carefully.

MM and Richard,
Thanks for quick response on this! http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif |
Re: Big Fat Bug
Why not just label the new patch 1.28 to prevent confusion?
