Manipulating Dom2

Actually, I don't think anyone's manipulating anything. I just have a few observations, having lurked on this board since early Dom2.

1. I'm gratified and pleasantly not-quite-surprised that people like Zen and Gandalf have retained a civil tongue.
2. Stormbinder, Cainehill etc if they had anything to prove appear happy with their efforts to prove it, and have proven other things to us as well.
3. Norfleet's gone for now, sad for his content, happy if he was a cheater.
4. Cheating is bad, but the most obvious thing for a community like this is that the key players especially should refrain from it.
5. I personally hate the sheer amount of time wasted in doing undignified things and posting all kinds of indirect and direct muck.
6. I miss the old days when Posts like 'Caelum is ripping my a** off, what do I do now?' were the order of the day and not a rare blip in between muckslingings.
7. I still have full faith in IW to rectify the problems to the best of their ability.
8. Maybe being 40-ish is too old for this kind of stuff, and I should just hobble off to play Risk instead.

Nice post.
How would you like to be a Moderator? Or a Beta Tester?

There was an age poll a long time ago. A search might find it and a post would being it forward. Last I looked I was surprised to discover that I wasnt as alone at the top of the age pyramid as I thought I was.

I was already terrified of getting my *** whipped in MP (4 SP games and I still have no idea of some of the basics - like blessing, pillaging etc.) ... now there is a proven exploit I'd like to see a post from the devs explaining how it happened and how it's been fixed ....

The signal to noise ratio of this board has been variable. I too prefer the strategy discussions to the namecalling.

At 34 I suspect I'm in the upper quartile age-wise, but maybe not ....

It's pretty natural that most Posts nowadays fall into the "noise" Category. We've *had* all the strategy and "how does this work" discussions.

I think you may well be wrong about the ages of players here - there's room for a whole quartile between your age and mine http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

I thought that was already done. Wasnt hex editing given as the most likely answer? You want it clearer than that? What address to edit? What code to put there?

The important information is that the players turn file can be sent to Illwinter. They can decrypt the data and print the results here if they feel its worth posting.

I didn't see any devs verify that that's how it was done - and besides, the explanation of how it's been fixed is the more important point. Somebody else could do it a lot more subtly than Norfleet and get away with it.

You cannot be serious! About the discussions having been had, I mean - there must be thousands left ....

You could be right about the age range though - this isn't a kiddies' game ....

I was at least half serious. Searching on just about any question you can name will come up with an answer. We are after all over 51,000 Posts - thats a lot of strategy and tactics http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

These smileys sure are ugly...

Well, here's another 40+ ...... and I've spent a lot of that time going from one game to another, always looking for that "ultimate strategy game".
I just recently discovered Dom2, so obviously I still have a lot of unanswered questions / untried strategies.
But with that comes all the fun and excitement.
I would hate to go back to games of the Risk-level though. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif
Thank your deity that there are some people in this world who can actually make a game come alive which you have always dreamt of being able to play one day.
Dom2 comes pretty close for me in that respect.

A gamer's age is irrelevent with regards to what games they play. For that matter, so is gender. Case in point: I'm a few months shy of 45, and female. You're as old, and as feeble, as you think yourself to be. Until your arthritis gives you a reality-check ... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif
