defense against Fires from Afar?
My wizards are getting nailed by Fires from Afar. Anything I can do? Will armor help? Robe of Missile Protection? Ring of fire resistance?
Thanks, Merry |
Re: defense against Fires from Afar?
Fire Resistance will help for sure.
About Armor, usually fire strikes are armor piercing, so it could help. Another way is to cast one or more Dome on your province. Since it's a fire attack, Forest Dome isn't very useful, and Dome of Flaming Death could be useless if the enemy casters are fire immune, like Abysyans. |

in mp there are only 2 real defenses : 1. 100% fire resistence (abysia e.g.) 2. move underwater ( does not protect against murdering winter though , so ideal for caelum http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif . when they can get underwater because of their 100% CR there their clamhorders are well protected http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif ) semidefenses : as cohen said domes , preferrably the air dome . high hp / armor should help a bit too against firedamage because most firespells are AP so in mp : either protect your forgers/clamhorders by multiple domes or try bringing them underwater . attacking : - too indirect with damage spells / economic damage spells - with vampires / dominionpush - with scs dangerous flames from the sky / fires from afar opponents : normally abysia , marignon , mictlan , machaka |
Re: defense against Fires from Afar?
You can also have other targets be availiable. Having a mass of scouts in the same province, unhidden, will give them a higher chance of not being the one to die from it. While this isn't particularly useful in provinces where you have large numbers of wizards doing something (researching for example) it can be very useful when moving attacking armies and you want to keep your mages free of Seeking Arrows/Flames/Murdering Winters death.

Re: defense against Fires from Afar?
Can I cast multiple domes of a type (e.g., air domes) in one province? Just Last turn, he shattered two air domes (home city, key choke point). Does that mean he probably hit me several times before getting lucky and getting past the 80% protection?
|
Re: defense against Fires from Afar?
Probably. Unless he gets lucky. You could also try putting up Domes of a different type (they overlap). A good one in particular is a Dome of Arcane Warding.
|
Re: defense against Fires from Afar?
Is it known what order the domes take effect? Solid Air breaks if it failes, so I'd prefer to have Arcane Warding be checked first, to avoid that risk.
Thanks, Merry |
Re: defense against Fires from Afar?
i believe they are checked in the order they were put up. so if you wish arcane warding to be checked first, you would need to cast it first.

How does a permanent Twist Fate effect (like a prophet with an Astral 9 blessing) interact with Fires from Afar?

Zen - question
Hi,
Can someone who knows a lot about the game (Zen?) tell us how long a spell like Dome of Arcane Warding Lasts if no extra gems are put into it? Thanks!!! John |
Re: Zen - question
The Domes are 1Turn+1Turn/Gem for each additional gem that is spent. Those that are not permanent until caster dies/spell breaks the dome.
I have it in the RQR, but it hasn't been released as of yet. |
Re: Zen - question
Zen, stop teasing us with the RQR. Shame on you!
You're welcome to release a beta of the RQR anytime, you know. Who cares if it's polished or 100% done? I'm sure whatever state it's in is better than not having it at all. |
