Kodos\' Kooky Art Shack

Thats right. For once I am announcing a new shipset, rather then demanding/asking/pleading for one. This shipset is part of an even greater project called Project Eternal Darkness.

What is Project Eternal Darkness? It is a project to create art related to the Jonol Shadow. This includes
-A Jonol Shipset
-Jonol Character Images
-Legion Race Images
-A Darkness GUI for SEIV
-Darkness System and Planet Types for LR Mod

Who are the Jonol, you ask? Allow me to explain.

The Jonol are a race of evil demons who desire only to genocide all life in the cosmos, in order to appease their dark god, the Lord of Darkness, Va'roci. The Jonol can bend reality to their will, and build ships as large as Red Giants. Truely they are the stuff of nightmares. They are also the main antoginists in LR mods single player scenarios. The Dark Legion, or The Legion, is an alliance of enslaved races that serve the Jonol.

Who is working on this project? Me and Atrocity (A member of the SE:Legacies forums, not to be confused with Atrocities. Plural. See. Yeah. We need to find him a new name.) Basically Atrocity does the art, and I say "Oooh shiny picture."

So far, we have only done the Character art, but he has sent me a few mock ups of Jonol ships, and they are looking good. To show you all that we mean business, here are the Character images for your enjoyment. I will post more as it is sent to me, all leading up to the final download.

The Spawn of the Darkness
The Ravagers
The Sea of Darkness
The Shadow of Va'roci
Jonol

The Dreamer
The Scourge of Worlds
The Enemy of the Soul
The Darkness
Va'roci

EDIT: Quite obviously, the whole thing is being done in Photoshop. But I like the outcome, and it would be near impossible to do some of the things we plan to do in 3D, without hiring professionals.

Use a 'spraycan tool' that will paint a fuzzy edge, then paint hard black lines on top of that. Or use layers of some kind.

I look forward to the final set. Will be very interesting to add these to my monster collection. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Good work. And still very ID looking. (Reference the Forbidden Planet)

Just asking.. How important is to mask the ship portraits pictures of a shipset??

Re: A New Shipset in the Works

If you have sharp edges, masking would be good. For fuzzy ones, it would probably look better with no masking.

Either way, consistency is important. Don't mask just parts of it.

For minis, extremely important. Unmasked portraits look really bad in battles in nebulae systems, storms, etc., as they have weird boxes around all ships... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

I see...

I'd better mask all the pics ^^ then

You can get the style tester from the Gold CD or from malfador. Place it in your races folder and then test them.

This is one of the best ways to do it. ALTHOUGH do not leave it in the folder when you zip it for uploading. The style tester is a large file.

New art! This time around its a Jonol Leviathan. I also have art of a World Eater, one of those ships the sizes of a Red Giant, but its just a big circle with a hole, nothing special, and not worth posting.

Keep in mind, this image looks 100 times cooler as a Bitmap.

Looks more like a snakeman of the apocalypse.

Re: A New Shipset in the Works

It was originally supposed to be a Jonol upper torso "riding" on the back of a Leviathan. But Atrocity mis-interpreted my vague ramblings. I like this one, and since we are running behind schedule, I just said "Okay, it works."

And isn't it a bit presumptuous to call it "The" Space Empires Roleplay Community, rather than "A" SERC? There are a number of others, afterall...

This image that I am about to post is only loosely related to the Jonol/Legion, but I figured why not just post it anyway. Yeah, so I am hijacking my own thread and turning it into the Kodos' House of Art. What kind of art? Anything related to my myriad of writings and projects.

I give you the self proclaimed most beautiful terrorist alive, Ledliah (Descramble the name for some fun.):
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...ndern/lil2.jpg

This was not made by Atrocity, as all the previous art has been, but by my close friend Karen. She is more or less my official artist for all humans and some humanoids.

Re: A New Shipset in the Works

Some of my friends suggested the face is too long, and it is being changed.

This is a bump. A shameless one.

Expect new image soon.

NYAA!!!

The latest rendition. Due to its rather large resolution I decided to post a link to it, rather then just post the image in the thread.

Actually with the exception of the Ledliah drawings, I think its better then most the others. Not just red and black. Okay, so its red, black, and purple, but still. I think its good.

For no other reason then that I can, and its sitting around my HD, here is a larger version for your enjoyment.

The claws look too long. They make the entire thing look like it originated from a bad B-horror cartoon which went entirely haywire.
