Updated Systemnames file

This file contains 350 star names. I got these from the offical lists for stars. I left in the 200 names that came with the game . Since only about 10 appear to not to be real names of stars.
The game will randomly use up to 255 of these. So each game you should see a wide varation of names.

Corrected Wolf 359 (made typo)

Cool stuff! Once, long long ago, in an America far far away, there was a boardgame by a company called SPI, and the name of this game was Starforce Alpha Centauri. One of the many beauties of this game was the way it laid out our arm of the galaxy in beautifully realistic detail, with all their proper names. And although the paper map was necessarily 2D (no ****, Possum), there were +/- coordinates assigned, to show relative positions "above" and "below" the "plane", thus giving you a good idea of the actual 3D positions of the star systems.

Starforce Alpha Centauri...ah, the memories. I enjoyed that so much that I eventually bought the Trilogy pack with the two sequels, Starsoldier and Outreach.

Another old game with an accurate star map was Traveller 2100AD, IIRC. I seriously considered buying that just for the map, but never actually bought it.

Dracus,
I when I made my own list I found that the really long names like "Al Minliar al Shuja" have some problems displaying completely on the interface.

I forget now how many characters is maximum, but you might want to 'shave' a few of the long names down.

That's what I did; for example, I think I cut "Ras Elased Australis" to "Elased Australis".

Nice list BTW http://www.shrapnelgames.com/ubb/images/icons/icon7.gif

Thanks, I will cut some of the loger ones down a bit.

Re: Updated Systemnames file

I had a question about that list.

Namely, I noticed some systems that were missing, like Epsilon Indi, and Epsilon Eridani, and 82 Eridani...

Thanks for the file. But doesn't it just have 452 names in it?

Thanks!

452 is what the one I downloaded had in it too.

Re: Updated Systemnames file

The one I posted only had 452 stars in it. I counted the words by mistake rather then the number of star names.

(cue sound of women screaming)

Epsilon Eridani, a very interesting system, more like our Sol than Vega or Fomalhaut are.

(Having tasted blood, the webferret courses relentlessly on in pursuit of its natural food, raw data...)

82 Eridani, another system like our own

And check this out, a very cool 3D, fully rotatable and zoomable map of our local area.

/me sets his webferret loose on the final search item...

Epsilon Indi, which can also be seen in the map referenced in the previous post, but here it is again. http://www.solstation.com/index.html
