I've got some gmail invites!

So how about a little tactical combat tourney?

Suggestions on rules and settings are welcome.

Fleet Setup A:
1 scanner escort - reveal enemy ship stats from range 6
2 PD frigates - only ships with PD. Armed with Meson BLasters.
1 DUC destroyer - only ship with phased shields
1 Cloaked LC - invisible to enemy, can't fire until decloaked. Armed with Meson BLasters.
1 PPB cruiser - Great against anything but the destroyer. Level 1 PPBs
1 CSM battleship - long range firepower
1 Large transport - unarmed troop transport to defend.

Its a big friend-of-a-friend signup scheme.

As far as I know, random existing accounts are given the chance to invite new people every now and then.

And is that fleet for SEIV? I thought cloaking was only for strategic movement, not combat...

It's easy when you have one guy (SJ) controlling both sides doing the actual combat and relaying Messages via IRC. You simply don't tell Player A about Player B's cloaked ships.

EDIT: I probably should have said "possible" instead of "easy". Since it's probably a lot of work for SJ, I don't know that easy is the correct word to use there. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

And I also won't tell you the shields/component status of the enemy ship unless you have the scanner escort in range of them http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

You get to know:
- Location of non-cloaked ships
- Firing actions, movements.
- Anything about your own ships.
- Details of one enemy ship per turn if it is within 6 of your scanner escort.

With just 3, we could do a round-robin thing, with one point for each surviving ship.

Well, the big advertising point to begin with was the 1gb of storage. But it also uses the google searching algorithm with your email, so you can easily find old Messages, etc., Groups Messages by label instead of folder (a message can have multiple labels), filtering options, etc. It's really cool so far http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/cool.gif
