OT: Character VS. Character
Inspired by these forums, although I havn't read much of them:
http://kier.3dfrontier.com/forums/ar...x.php/f-4.html http://kier.3dfrontier.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=4 Basically, the idea is, match up two characters in a battle of weapons or wits and debate who wins. A superpowered character may only be matched against a non-superpowered character if the superpowered character has a weakness the non-superpowered character could reasonably exploit. So, a Batman VS. Superman matchup works for both contests, as we all know Batman always keeps at least one peice of Kryptonite around and probably has the formula and Superman could beat Batman at chess...if Batman was absorbed in a book on advanced quantum physics, scanning 8 different news channels simutaneusly and in deep contemplation of a difficult and complex crime. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif So, first one: Han Solo(SW)(The 'shoots first' Version, not the kid-freindly 'shoots second' Version, who would Last about 5 seconds) VS. Garrak(ST:DS9)... Hey! Unintentional Spy VS. Spy reference. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif |
Re: OT: Character VS. Character
Han Solo wins hands down. And, uh, who is Garrak???
|
Re: OT: Character VS. Character
Garrak was one of Cardassia's 8 top spies, a member of Cardassia's Obsidian Order, and even reformed a guy who blew up the Romulon empires ambassador to the Federation to get them into the war against the Dominion(Framed the Dominion). Naturally, without orders.

Re: OT: Character VS. Character
I would say Han, hes more of a an action character whereas Garak is a schemer.
Spoon. Garak is a Cardassian "Tailor". That is what he used to pretend to be. Actually he used to be second in command of the Cardassian secret Police. He once talked Capt Sisko into making a fake hologram of the dominion planning to attack the Romulans. They talked a Romulan senator into coming to DS9 and showed him the fake hologram so the Romulans would declare war on the Dominion. Sisko was worried when the Senator saw it was a fake and he thought the Romulans would never help. In actuality Garak set up the whole thing simply so he could put a bomb on the Senators ship. After one dead senator the Romulans joined the war against the Dominion. There was also an episode where every 5 minutes Garak admitted the truth about himself, until 5 minutes later when you learn the real truth, and then the Real truth 5 minutes later etc. |
Re: OT: Character VS. Character
Scene: Han Solo walks down a corridor. As he lifts his foot to take another step, an anti-personal bomb blows him to peices.

Plot Protection revoked: 1) Do they start at opposite ends of the galaxy and suddenly discover an overwhelming and immediate need to kill each other? In that case, Garrak, hands down - he will have more time to plan out and get the various sneak attacks going, as well as do the whole hiding and tracking thing meanwhile. 2) Do they start at opposite ends of a room and suddenly discover an overwhelming and immediate need to kill each other? In that case, Hans Solo, hands down - he has a tendancy to go about armed, while Garrak has a tendancy to go around looking like a tailor (no guns). Hans would just shoot Garrak from across the room before Garrak could find a decent weapon from a stash somewhere. Plot Protection Not Revoked: In this case, Hans Solo is a movie character, with a mere 3 movies, while Garrak is a long-term series character. Hans is more disposeable, so Garrak wins. |

But could Garrak shoot as well as Han Solo? My memories of DS9 are kinda fuzzy, but I would say probably not, so Han still wins. |
Re: OT: Character VS. Character
Also we could base it on who had more screentime http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smirk.gif I think han would win then.

Re: OT: Character VS. Character
I say hans Solo even if they start across the galaxy. Hans has more friends and alies and he shoots faster and more accuratly, (I never saw Garak shoot so I'm only speculating there).

Re: OT: Character VS. Character
I couldn't resist posting. Obviously Garek would win. For a few reasons.
1. It doesn't matter if Garek can't aim. Federation phasers have autoaim. http://www.st-v-sw.net/STSWground-newphas2.html Anyway that site analyses the technology of Star Trek and Star Wars, and in most ways Star Trek comes out on top. Maybe Han Solo will pick up a phaser, and maybe he won't... but Garek would definitely use a phaser or some Cardassian variant, and could take out Han Solo without a sweat with it. And the "friends" argument... well Han Solo has Jedi friends, but I'd rather be in Garek's bird of prey than Solo's Millenium Falcon anyday lol. 2. I remember an episode where Garek and O'Brian were trapped in an old Cardassian space station where they resurrected some Cardassian soldiers. My memory is fuzzy, but I remember Garek killing a few of the Cardassians, and nearly killing O'Brian, because he was affected by some virus. Obviously, Garek is a formidable opponent... the "Tailor" moniker doesn't do him justice, just as calling Han Solo a "Smuggler" doesn't give Han Solo due credit... Anyway I hope this doesn't go OT, with a SW vs ST debate starting lol that would be stupid. But with Garek and Han, ignoring the technology and other factors, I think Garek would win, because he is the more ruthless of the two. Ignoring everything else, and just comparing personalities, Garek wins in the leathality Category, because he is a cold-blooded killer, and Han is a playboy. So whatever way you cut it, Garek wins =D Brian |
Re: OT: Character VS. Character
Well, I think Han Solo would win. He's really good with a bLaster, he draws fast and shoots fast. Remember when Han shoots Darth Vader the second the door opened and he saw him in Cloud City?
As for Garrak, I must have missed the DS9 episode where he actually did something besides acting all shifty and mysterious like he usually is. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif |
Re: OT: Character VS. Character
As I see it:
------------ If they started a reasonable distance away, Garak would win via subterfuge probably without ever seeing Han in person, and make it look like Luke did it http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif In a western-style shootout, assuming both are present with only a hand weapon, they'd both die from pre-tenth-step shots. In a walk-in-the-room face-to-face and unexpected-need-to-kill situation, Han would probably be the faster draw. |
Re: OT: Character VS. Character
I figure if Boba Fett, who is a sneaky, cold blooded killer, couldn't get Solo, nor could the Empire hunting him, I would think Garrik would have a might bit of trouble getting him.
2 cents worth |
Re: OT: Character VS. Character
I figure if Gul Dukat and the Cardassian Empire, and the Dominion couldn't get Garek, then Han Solo should have some problems getting him =)
