Newbie Slug Fest - Mose Hansen game - ENDED
 

For all those people who missed out on the new gigantic newbie game from Boron, I have decided to start my first Moses Hansen MP game for newbies only. The definition of a newbie is that you must have previously played, or are playing, in a maximum of 10 MP games all together. For reference, this will be my 7th MP game.

The other rule is that you MUST take a race in which you have no MP experience of any kind. SP experience is fine, of course.

Settings:
Indies - 8
Research - Hard
Capitol VPs + 20 VPs = 30
13 VPs to win
magic sites = 35
Map - Inland
No water races
First 10 players are in

When do you estimate starting the game? Panther...I might be really interested in this but I have been reluctant to join in any new games because there are two weekends I will be out of town this month and it would result in a stale turn those two Saturday's we're I'm not available.

So either, no one complains about the stales, or I talk our gracious host into going 48 hours those particular weekends.

That's funny. Well it looks like deccan beat me fair and square. I haven't played too many races. I'll give the big bad race Ermor a try. A bit leery of doing so, b/c I don't have the skill of those master players. How about I be a kinder, gentler undead. actually ive been thinking about it and im going to withdraw from the game

I have college starting this week and combined with work I am not sure its a good idea to jump into another game until I get settled in. So Pythium is free if anybody wants to choose it.

I do want to play another game with you Panther but its just a bad time and I am currently in 4 games still(was 5 but our other game ended so its 4 now).

Panther doesn't seem to stay on much. I believe it is 24 hours in the beginning, perhaps moving to 48 hours later.

Yup. I think it is 24 hour quickhost immediately, with the option to switch to 48 hour quickhost upon request.

This looks to my taste - it will be my 9th MP game not counting three 2 player games only one of which Lasted beyond turn 4. I am not sure who to take as I am running out of new races I have any empathy for but I will say Mictlan but I am happy to swap.

We now have a full house - maybe...

I have reserved a spot for Krool Death, though he did not reserve a race. I have also reserved Man for Lepakko in case he wants to play despite this not being a ladder game.

With these two, it will be 11 players. If both decline, then I will reopen the game to accept a tenth player.

I am still working on a Caelum pretender. Caelum seems hard to play so far with my limited practice in SP. The 8 indies with hard research make for a very slow expansion with the wimpy ice troops. The rout so darn easy, even the mammoths.

But I know Caelum must be a good race because all the pros like it!

Guys, I think it is 24h, I just had made a comment that I would be out of town a couple of Saturday's this month and was wondering if we could temporarily switch it to 48h on those days (although I could just get a sub or staleI suppose).

Personally, I think 48h is ideal. Most everyone is going to take a turn daily, basically making it a 24h game, but 48h affords you the luxury of being gone for a day without staling, or if the wife is sick of watching you pour over the domII manual and dozens of spreadsheets and charts to plan your next move. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I already replied that I will change to 48 hour upon request. You have already requested it for the future, so all you need to to tell me right before you need it changed. Oh, and pick a race too.

I intend for it to stay 24 hours for the most part, so I will switch back and forth as people need the extra time.

I dont like a permanent 48+ hour thing because of people who go AWOL without saying anything. It can slow the game to a crawl. However, late game when the position is difficult, especially on a large map, then 48 hours is good. But on inland with only 13 of 30 VPs required, I doubt we will ever get to that point.

The hard research prevents quite a bit expansion by mages / Scs .

Caelum is not feared because of his troops but because of his mages + Sc abilities thnx to cold 3 , very fast research etc.

Wow,it amazes me everytime with the number of variables to be considered when creating a new Pretender and wondering whether the "build" of the Pretender, Scales, Magic,etc., will pay off.

Be warned, inland map can get really crowded with 10 players. And with a relatively high indy setting, players will prefer to attack other players instead of indies.
