What was you doing when this happened?
What campaign?

Try and get a screenshot of it (or note the exact error)

Re: Access Viotion= CHASH

Does it look like this?

"Access Violation at address 004F3A5E in module 'Starfury.exe' Read of address 00000018"

I get this all the time playing the P&N mod. Mostly in campaign 2 and 3.

Re: Access Viotion= CHASH

Yup, same with me. I've never finished the P&N game because of it. I figure it's because I'm on a laptop with a 16 meg video card hardwired into it and the maker discontinued that graphic card, so no driver updates. If you find a fix, let me know.

I'd start with making sure you have the latest patch, then update your video drivers.

I've found several workarounds.

1st. if the crash happens in systems your moving through, you can use the cheat ~warpmap systemname~ where system name is the destination star system.

2nd. I save the game in a seperate file before visiting my contact. If I can't workaround the crash, I go back to before I accepted the mission and do a couple of trade or mercenary missions. sometimes it clears up over time.

3rd. there's also a cheat that let's you skip the mission you're on, can't remember it though.

this got me as far as the first few missions into the 3rd campaign.

Good luck

If you are using a desktop PC, you can certainly upgrade from your onboard video card. All it requires is disabling the onboard card in the BIOS and placing the new video card in an AGP or PCI slot (preferably AGP as it is better for video cards).

Yes, that is my plan, have to save the pennies to get it drivers as it is now are built into the MB http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif

Re: Access Viotion= CHASH

Even with an integrated video card, the video drivers are not built in to the motherboard and are installed separately. Just find out what the card is and look for drivers for it.

Speaking of video problems.

I updated my own drives (Radeon 7500) and when I tried to launch it rebooted my machine.

I went into setup and reset my display settings - and now the game runs windowed (it never would before), and I can't get it to return to full screen.

Re: Access Viotion= CHASH

have you tryied a different Rez in the game set up?

Sundansyr October 11th, 2004 07:06 PM

Video Driver Bug w/ Radeon 7500

Yes.

When I used by default display it would completely reboot the machine.
When I selected the radeon driver it windowed the game, but it was very slow and choppy (frame rate below 5fps).

Finally I just wiped my display drivers and reinstalled them, updating to the Last patch *prior* to the one I just installed (9/9/04 release). It's running properly again, and I've learned how to run in windowed mode (select the radeon driver).

Re: Video Driver Bug w/ Radeon 7500

Are you playing the P&N mod campaigns 2 or3? If you are and get these errors (most people do), I would suggest waiting for a fixed Version and sticking with campaign 1, the stock game, or another mod.

Hmm...

Try copying the bitmapeffects and components files from P&N episode 1.

LRS? I'm a rookie on this, what is it?

Suicide Junkie October 23rd, 2004 12:21 PM

Re: Video Driver Bug w/ Radeon 7500

LRS = long range scanners
for debugging, use the ~lrs~ code

Copying the bitmapeffects file seems to work so far.

Re: Video Driver Bug w/ Radeon 7500

I've found its almost always weapon problems...
You have to remember also that you're not always the one fighting http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Copy the bitmapeffects and the components file from P&N episode 1 to the ep 2 and 3 folders, and it should work.
If it dosen't, let me know.

Re: Video Driver Bug w/ Radeon 7500

OK So far that seams to have worked http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif I do have a Q on the weapons, the Meason BLaster you go up in level yet the power it has stays the same I think Lvl 19 to 21

Suicide Junkie October 23rd, 2004 06:07 PM

Re: Video Driver Bug w/ Radeon 7500

Yeah, its going up fractions of a power level.
Those fractions may translate to an extra point on the heavy mount Version of the weapon.

Re: Video Driver Bug w/ Radeon 7500

BTW, level 20???

That's incredibly high!
Is the game still reasonably balanced at that level?

Are the beam weapons noticably more powerful than projectiles up there?

mottlee October 23rd, 2004 08:40 PM

Re: Video Driver Bug w/ Radeon 7500

LOL really up to 25/26 yes still getting butt kicked...trying to get the best balance btwn sheilds/armor/weapons/energy, love the Quantum reactors do wish they put out more power http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif I hate going up against cairers they always have escorts (at least 3) so far the fix is holding http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Beem is better, reload time lower, Mason gun for size and reload can not be beet! would like the DUC with the same too, crystlin energy beam GREAT 2nd to wave (reload bites)

Re: Video Driver Bug w/ Radeon 7500

I've got a new Version up on imagemodserver now.
1) Fixed that bug
2) Added "Autofire" Versions of most weapons, very useful for side and rear arcs on big warships.
3) Add one of TerranC's new ship models for the Freighter. They look much better than the boxy old models, IMO.

mottlee October 24th, 2004 01:34 PM

Re: Video Driver Bug w/ Radeon 7500

Is this the same one D/L in the other thread? will I need to restart a new game??

Suicide Junkie October 24th, 2004 03:16 PM

Re: Video Driver Bug w/ Radeon 7500

I think one warp jump should be enough to get everything loaded up with the new data.

mottlee October 24th, 2004 03:32 PM

Re: Video Driver Bug w/ Radeon 7500

Over wrote current game, Freighter still "Look" the same, "Auto Fire" I do not need to fire these?? so far working well, 2/3 Campaine 2 (first missions)
