OT - The Lost
It's a new tv season, and the networks make shows they hope will survive at least until mid-season. One of those shows looks very interesting. It's called The Lost, and is a story about a group of survivors from an airliner crash on a deserted island. Looks promising, and I hope it Lasts for awhile. But it's not a very original idea. About 25-30 years ago, the networks would make tv movies that turned out to be pilots for shows that never materialized. One of those movies happened to be about, guess what, a group of survivors of an airplane crash struggling to survive on a desert island. Probably the only reason I even rememeber that movie was that it starred Lloyd Bridges as the plane's captain. Also, there's mention of a "beast" in the new show. In the movie, there was a boar that terrorized some of the survivors. I just wonder if someone remembered this old flick and wanted to update it to today's standards, or just thought of it on their own. From what little I've read of the series, there was no mention about the comparison of the two.

Re: OT - The Lost
Yes, such a situation has great potential, but I fear the network will just turn it into another soap opera. I will give it a look, but my expectations are not high.

Re: OT - The Lost
Did anybody see this show? As things turned out, I didn't get a chance, but I didn't really expect to. I get the pleasure of watching my son in the evenings, since my wife has not only to watch him, but a whole daycare full of kids during the day. I don't envy her job. Anyway, if anybody did see The Lost, let me know how it turned out. I'm just wondering if it lived up to all the buzz I've been hearing & reading.

Richard and I DVR'd it and I hope we get around to watching it this weekend. I'll let ya know what we thought of it once we do! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif

I tell you, it's hard to catch up on tv shows nowadays. What with me watching my son, the only thing he's interested in is most of the shows on the Disney channels (we got 3 of them). I've seen more Lilo & Stitch and Kim Possible than I'll probably ever see of CSI or whatever other shows are out there. I do get to watch some Fear FActor, but when it comes time to eat whatever disgusting thing they can think of for that particular episode, I got to leave. There's only so much bug eating or raw cow brains stunts I can take. |
Re: OT - The Lost
We liked the show, it definetly lived up to the hype.
|
Re: OT - The Lost
Yeah, we definitely liked it. We both thought it had really great production value. When it started out it looked more like a movie than a TV show. I'll give a little more details of the first episode a little later when I have more time to post.

Re: OT - The Lost
I like it. It looks like instead of a wild boar, there's a dinosaur roaming the island...

Yeah we thought it was a dinosaur too.

Re: OT - The Lost
Okay a little synopsis of the first episode. It starts out after the crash although later you do get a small flashback of what it was like right before the crash. We meet Jack disoriented in the woods/jungle as he is waking up from the crash. He hears screaming and wanders back to the crash site. He goes around helping some of the passengers including a pregnant woman, a woman who isn't breathing and a guy traped under wreckage that has part of his leg cut off by the wreckage. We learn he is a doctor.
He recruits a passenger named Kate to help him sew up some lacerations he has on his back. They get to talking about finding the front part of the plane. If they can find it maybe they can find the traceiver. She explains how she saw smoke coming from another part of the jungle. During this time the other passengers are doing their best to start a fire, make themselves comfortable, find food, etc. Kate wants to go with Jack to find that front part of the plane tomorrow and just as Jack is starting to argue with her we hear loud noises from the jungle. The trees are shaking the ground is rumbling but eventually whatever it is goes away. All the passengers are visibly shaken by this as they don't have any idea what is on the island with them or what could make all that noise. The next day Jack and Kate get ready to head out. Another passenger named Charlie invites himself to go with them. Kate feels she has seen him somewhere and we learn that he is a member of a popular band. The sky is darkening suddenly and they are having a rainstorm that comes out of nowhere. Back at the crash site more noises are heard. The trio find the wreckage and make their way up into the nose of the plane. They discover that one of the pilots are alive. Jack gives him some water and tells him that at least 48 passengers survived and it's been 16 hours since the crash. The pilot tells them that the radio stopped working about 6 hours into the flight and couldn't be seen by anyone. They decided to turn around and land in fiji and by the time they hit the turbulence and went down that they were thousands of miles off course. The rescuers will be looking in the wrong place. They get the trasceiver and try to get it to work. While up there Charlie disappears and Kate finds him in the bathroom. They hear the noises again and notice shadows outside the plane. They try to look through the windows to catch a glimpse of what is out there. The pilot sticks his head out of the wreckage to take a look and is grabbed and lifted up. We see his legs dangling and struggling and eventually disappears as the fuselage is knocked to the ground (it was sticking up into the air at an angle). The trio start running back to the beach where they originally crashed and Charlie falls as his leg gets stuck. Jack goes back to help him as Kate is left all alone. A few moments pass and Charlie runs up and Jack is not with him. Kate insists on going back to find him. They stumble upon the pilots wings in a swampy area. Jack is near them and they all look up and see the body of the pilot, blodied and broken sitting in the top of a tree. They wonder what it is that could have done this. |
Re: OT - The Lost
Ok, thanks for the review. Hopefully they'll repeat in the future and I can catch it then. I know in the old movie I saw with Lloyd Bridges, it was a boar, and they finally were able to kill it. I guess they had roast pork that night http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: OT - The Lost
hmmm,.. a plane crash, and the survivors are stuck on an island,.. hmmmm. sounds like a modernized Version of something in my memory.. If they were survivors of a shipwreck, and one was a professor instead of a doctor, there does seem to be a 'star' of some sort, and did the 'pilot' (aka captain) survive? hmmmm, yes it all seems familiar,.. but then again they put a 'modern twist' on the idea,.. make it a drama instead of a comedy. My only problem is there are way too many 'dramas' on tv as it is, they should have made this a comedy.
But, then again, I can always switch to 'Deja Vue' channel and have my cake and eat it too. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif LOL, Cheers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |

Re: OT - The Lost
Taz just got done with watching the second episode of The Lost...
Now Taz is all in favor of suspending disbelief in the interest of entertainment - BUT - Polar Bears in the Tropics???? LIVE POLAR BEARS IN THE TROPICS??? Now that must have been one record setting swim! That will take a little explaining - even to TAZ!! OK! OK! They did intercept an emergancy transmission. A 16 year old transmission repeating... So you may say that the bear was part of some hidden lab... Except - 1) SIXTEEN years have passed. What did the bear find to eat for SIXTEEN Years?... 2) How did a polar bear survive in the HOT tropics that long? He sure can't take off his fur!!! 3) How long does a Polar Bear live anyway? 16 years should make him a fairly OLD bear I would think... Taz hopes that there is a logical (or at least semi-logical) explaination... He just can't think of any! |

I was a big fan of west wing, but when Aaron Sorkin left the writing team and Rob Lowe left the show, the quality seems to have dropped. And what's up with the new style of having the camera follow the actors all over the place, way too much movement, they should go back to the old style. ..and, I didn't say I didn't like dramas, just that there were way too many saturating the TV right now. Cheers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |
Re: OT - The Lost
As far as drama, I love 24. Hope the new one (which won't start until January) meets the expectations of the past shows. But with a new president, unless this "day" happens before the current prez ends his term, I hope the chemistry isn't change too much. But I didn't really like the republican candidate. He was too scheming. We'll see. That's about the only drama show I make an effort to watch. I did watch one episode of Hawaii, and it seemed pretty good. Almost like a modern Version of Hawaii 5-0. Never have watched West Wing, and I don't plan to. maybe it's good, but with Martin Sheen's known political leanings, I don't want to watch it. And what the heck is NBC doing? Every time I turn around, there's another Law and Order show being made. It maybe a good show, but come on, how many spin-offs can you make out of a show? I think only Happy Days is about the only other show that had so many spinoffs associated with it (Mork & Mindy, Laverne & Shirly, Chachi & Joanie). I'm surprised Fonzi didn't get his own show after Happy Days was canceled.

My favorite show right now, and close to my favorite show of all time is Law and Order: Criminal Intent. But I was just thinking the other day the show probably suffers because it's part of the L&O brand. I think it would get more respect if it had been given it's own name and could be treated as it's own show.

Re: OT - The Lost
I know what you mean. You go from a nuclear weapon in the 2nd show to a biological agent in the 3rd season (and skipping a whole year in which Jack becomes an addict and the President is miraculously cured from whatever dose he was given at the end of the 2nd season). What possibly else can they do? The first season was innovative, and you never knew what was going to happen. The second one kept you on your seat with what was happening with the nuke. I kept missing shows or parts of shows during the 3rd season, so I kind of didn't have the sense of antipication that I had during the second season. I'm waiting for the box set to come out and see what I missed. I haven't heard anything about the 4th season, so yes, please keep the spoilers to a minimum. But thanks for the info anyway.
And I hope to God that one of those characters not coming back was that one girl (I want to think her name was Chloe, but I just don't remember). She was just annoying as hell. |

I wish I had that kind of time. I managed to watch all but 1 episode during the first season, and thank God for the FX channel, which showed repeats, or I might have missed more. I bought the box set of season 1, but haven't watched that episode yet to see what I missed.

I should get DVR or Tivo, or whatever it's called for Direct TV. But I'm already paying them a small fortune, and I still would need to find the time to watch it. Maybe one of these days.

Re: OT - The Lost
I gotta see this show "The Lost". I sure miss those dinosaurs and Sleestack!
Seriously "The Lost" sounds like a Gilligan's Island meets Twin Peaks. Sounds kinda creepy. Why did the radio quit functioning? Why did the airplane breakup in flight? Maybe there was a breakout of hostilities (Nuclear EMP would fry the radio) and the plane was shot down by another hostile fighter aircraft. Just speculating. What nights and Network is it on? |
Re: OT - The Lost
For now, it's on Wednesday nights on your local ABC station at 8:00 pm. Unless you're living in Tampa, where Last Saturday night ABC was going to show both episodes 1 & 2, but the local station overrode the signal to play one of the Florida football teams playing that night.
