ETA on SE5?
I know, a gauche and insensitive question, but I checked the FAQ first, and it wasn't in there http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif
Seriously, what's current status? Is Aaron giving us a rough ship-by date yet? Or is he imitating my heroes at idsoft and just saying, "when it's ready"? |
Re: ETA on SE5?
The current status is that the game is in development. There is no firm date, as the game has not even neared the beta testing stages yet.

Re: ETA on SE5?
Hmmm, ok.
Thinking back to what I remember of the SEIV development cycle, that sounds like (pulls a number out of his ear) 9 months to a year. hmmmm |
Re: ETA on SE5?
The General Rumour flying around is it should be completed and shipping around Summer-Winter 2005.
Thats If i'm remembering this correctly http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif |
Re: ETA on SE5?
FYI: The 'Beta' is still targeted for January 2005, How long after that untill the game goes on sale will depend on the speed and quality of great beta bughunt. I would guestimate late summer-fall 2005.
Cheers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |

Bahahahahaha! It's always nice to meet someone with an appreciation of History, even if it is only Art History http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif As I'm sure you know, the story is that ol' Vince chopped off one of his ears and gave it to a "lady of the evening". What a truly unique gift, eh? Alas we have no record of how she received it. There's actually an old film called "Vincent" that really surprised me. It consists of shots of his paintings, interspersed with current photos/video of the scenes portrayed in those paintings. This while a narrator reads his letters to his brother, who was his sole financial supporter and only confidante. I know, it sounds incredibly stupid and boring. It's not. I had to be dragged kicking and screaming to see it, then I sat rapt for the whole film. It works far better than it sounds. Anyways, back to the nominal subject of this thread. Ahem. Quote:

Of Course if the Proverbial Lion was an Art Student it would probably sleep through it http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif |
Re: ETA on SE5?

That's OK if he finishes making SE VI before he completes SE V. We'll just skip V. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif.

It will be called "SE XP", because yesterday Microsoft purchased Malfador Machinations. They are going to release 3 Versions of SE XP: "Starter Edition" (40$; only 3 planets allowed for colonisation), "Wargamer Edition" (75$; you can actually build warships, but no more than 32, since Windows is a 32bit OS) and finally "Management Unlimited" (130$; can do anything but you need to learn WSH, .NET architecture and ERP foundations to start playing). Edit: ETA is "Right after Longhorn" now. |
Re: ETA on SE5?
Malfador has been bought by Microsoft!!! OMG! Space Empires V will be for X-Box only!
|
Re: ETA on SE5?
Maybe Malfador should by Microsoft. Then we'd get a real operating system for our PCs... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Re: Van Gogh references-
I have a great joke that I pull out of the bag whenever anyone mentions Van Gogh. Best told with a completely straight face. It goes something like this: Stooge: Blah blah blah blah blah Vincent Van Gogh Blah blah. Me: Oh yeah? I met Vincent Van Gogh you know, in a pub. Stooge: Bollocks did you, Van Gogh's dead. Me: That's what I said. I said 'you're dead', and he said 'no I'm not.' Stooge: *raises eyebrow incredulously* Me: ( babble on regardless, maintaining straight face)So I told him I was a great admirer of his work and offered to buy him a pint, but he said "no thanks, I've got one 'ere." http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif Geddit??? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif |
Re: ETA on SE5?
Vincent van Gogh was a Dutch dude, you know. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif
|
Re: ETA on SE5?
So are you saying that the Dutch are insane alcoholics that die young?
|
Re: ETA on SE5?
Ehh... no, but... damn, I like to drink too.
Oh wait, I haven't cut my ear off... yet... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif |
Re: ETA on SE5?
I can cut your ear off for you...

Troubled, yes. He did kill himself, so there's no disputing that he had some problems upstairs. On the other hand, he was an artist. If you look carefully, a majority of truly great artists were/are a little bit psychologically off center. I have no real personal insight here, because I am an engineer through and through; there is little or no poetry in my soul. But I don't have to personally understand it in order to recognise the fact that artists, or great artists at any rate, tend to be a bit wacky. And as far as an alcoholic...do you have any documentary evidence of that? I'm not saying it isn't true, just that I'd never heard it before http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Oh, and Pierre Auguste Renoir, (another Impressionist, and a rough contemporary of Van Gogh), was a notable exception to my point above. The man was apparently just obnoxiously normal, happy, and well-adjusted. His wife appears in many of his best paintings, for land's sake! |
