OT; The Volucano Stirs
For those of you who don't know, I live some fourty miles from Mt. St. Helens. On May 18th 1980 Mt. St. Helens blew and blew big. Now as an interesting side note, she is once again beginning to stir.
Link If she blows, I will be sure to get some shots of her and post them. That is if I survive. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif |

Re: OT; The Volucano Stirs
We must embark upon our qwest to qwell the demon that sleeps within the mountain. For if the demo awakens all are in peril.
Those who are brave enought to stand with me, willing to march the 40 leuges to the face of the Mt. St Helens, and then climb the razor rock face to the summit and decend down into its lava dome, trek across the heaving face of moving liquid earth to the doom of death itself, cast aside its stones and decend into the depths of hell and prevent the awakening of the evil demon that lives below, shall forever be known as the brotherhood of the damned stupid. |
Re: OT; The Volucano Stirs
No no no... All you have to do is through a virgin in there to appease the angry god of the volcanon and all will be well.

My advice for vanquishing demons is the virgin path. Of course it is not fair to sacrifice virgins who are nice decent folk. We must find ourselves a virgin who has become a menace to society. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif Does Anyone know how to reach Bill Gates? He's the perfect candidate, although the chances are that through the EULA he already owns the demons soul! *Can Imagine the firey pits of hell being dominated by millions of rows of Microsoft computers running the "Windows: Infernal" Operating system to torture it's victims.... * |
Re: OT; The Volucano Stirs
Bill Gates or Micheal Jackson would do nicely I would think.

Since so many people here seem to be constantly Online, you can watch for signs of eruption yourself at the government supplied webcam:

My TV program was just interrupted to say that it has just errupted.

Re: OT; The Volucano Stirs
It has, indeed, begun a steam eruption. My local TV channel website has a video posted that I can't view at work, but HERE is a link to it. Kinda makes me glad to be back in California where earthquakes are our biggest threat.

Re: OT; The Volucano Stirs
well i know what will be on tv for a few weeks... Damn And I thought huricanes still had a few more weeks of life...
One can only wish for the sharks to come back P.S. I am attempting to poke fun at doom and gloom news... as I understand it is quite serious for the people that live near the problem |
Re: OT; The Volucano Stirs
I remember 1980 eruption. That ash chokes air filters on cars, grits up you hair, gets in the corner of your eyes, aggravates your existing hayfever, and makes for gray boogers. And unlike a silica based ash or pumice, it does not insulate against electricity. It conducts quite well and sometimes will short out electrical serivce. Just think gray snow. If it's on your car you can't wipe it off 'cause it will scratch paint; gotta bLast it with a hose. It took about 4 years to make it totaly disappear.

Re: OT; The Volucano Stirs
Ya I could see the steam from my house. Looks like a cloud at this point, kinda hard to distinguish it. Not like the eruptions of the 80's. Those buggers were like looking at atomic bLasts up close.
I will try and take some digitals of it if I can get away from the house to a better vantage point. (Broke no gas no money.) |

That Mount St. Helens webcam looks like just a screen full of static... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif

Re: OT; The Volucano Stirs
Fear not, the eruption today from our POV looked more like a could floating over the moutain than an eruption. I am on the south east side of the moutain and unless it blows HUGE, it will just look like a small eruption to us.
Although we did get a light, very light, dusting of ash. It has been over twenty years seens we have seen ash fall from the sky. I can remember the ash after an erutption, being so thick it was breaking branches off of trees because it stuck to the leaves like snow. |

I used to live in Portland and many of my relatives still do. Knowing them they are probably wigging out over it right now. I am still waiting for the never-ending phone call. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smirk.gif
Sadly, I wasn't born in time to see the first eruption but at least I can see this one! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif |

I just looked , and YES I saw smoke http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Re: OT; The Volucano Stirs
Well, I've been checking since I came back from lunch. There's definitely something going on. But is the Big One coming anytime soon? From my understanding, this could take awhile.
|
Re: OT; The Volucano Stirs
Still (only) smoke !!
|
Re: OT; The Volucano Stirs
Yeah, and that smoke is thinning out compared to what it was an hour ago.
|
Re: OT; The Volucano Stirs
Indeed I checked 30 minutes ago and the smoke was almost gone. BUT I also looked 2 minutes ago, and it's back again. (even more I guess)

Re: OT; The Volucano Stirs
Looks like there probably isn't going to be an eruption. The geologists have reduced the alert level now...
|
Re: OT; The Volucano Stirs
Weather there will be an erruption or not will depend on nature's rules not the geologist's. Those guys are still trying to figure out the 'why' let alone the 'when' factor in natures rules.
my 2 cents for free. Cheers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |
Re: OT; The Volucano Stirs
It was all about driving up the tourist revenue. We have eruptions like this all the time. It really is a big joke here about all the people who came because the news hyped it so ravidly.
I am honestly laughing my arse off at all the people who bought into the BIG ERUPTION hype from the media. This just goes to show you that the free press and media of the US are driven by hype, Bull****, and sensationalism based upon weak information and questionable executive decisions. THERE WAS NO DANGER OF AN ERUPTION. It was all designed to generate interest in the mountain and see how many stupid people we could get to come see it. In a way I wish the MT had blown, that way we could have wiped out an entire hurd of STUPID PEOPLE in one shot. "Hey the news says that Mt. St. Helens is going to blow!" "Get the kids and gas up the car! We're heading for the MT." Duhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh I wonder what those stupid SOB's would do if the Mt had blown up? After it was all said and done you would first see them on the news saying "We had no warning." and then in court claiming damages from both GOD and the Owners of Mt. St. Helens. YES WE DO NEED TORT REFORM! |
Re: OT; The Volucano Stirs

Also there hasn't been any activity of this sort at the mountain in quite some time. If these small eruptions were normal I am sure they would not have made it the center of news for a few days. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |

Re: OT; The Volucano Stirs
I did not buy into the hype. I heard about it, posted because it was interesting. From that point the NEWS made a huge deal out of it, and the those in charge felt that they had to give them something so they elevated the alert to 3. Everything from Last week to now was just to drive up revenue.
