OT: Speed Tests

I wanted to test my DSL speeds so I went to DSL Reports and this was the report I got.

LINK

I have a DSL connection. How does this fare to others?

Re: OT: Speed Tests

I can do better on downstream, that's for sure, but your upload totally 0wns compared to mine.

My best speed test, when I had my box all tweaked up for my connection, had me at pretty close to my max of 3 megabits. Unfortunately I've reinstalled since then and still haven't gotten the settings quite right...think my math's off..

Re: OT: Speed Tests

I did this test to see if I could host a Tribes Veng Server, but because they put SecureRom on the disk, I can neither play T:V or run a dedicated server. I would have to have two copies of the game to do that.

I tried to play America's army and found it to be a nice looking game with no playabilty. You get kicked from the servers after only a few seconds if you do not meet an object, and they do not tell you what the objective is. I have been trying to play it for weeks and finally tonight just uninstalled it after a hissy fit.

Why can't we just have a game that is a lot of fun to play without all of the uber BS that seems to be dilibratly installed in games these days?

KOTOR = Boring 3 out of 5
Americas Army = Furstrating 2 out of 5
Tribes Vengeance = Fun (But flawed) 3 out of 5
Doom 3 = repetatively boring 2 out of 5
Halo = Fun 4 out of 5

These are all games I have tried lately. I am so depressed http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif We need better games.

Re: OT: Speed Tests

AT, go back to the old "One more turn" type games.. Heroes of Might and Magic come to mind. Lots of fun, and currently not expensive. (can be found in bargain bins)

If you want a great FPS game, go back and play Deus Ex. It's probably the best FPS I have ever played. (I haven't tried Deus Ex 2, it wants higher sys specs than I currently have.)

Anyway, you know the deal, when boared make models http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif LOL

Cheers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: OT: Speed Tests

Check this crap out.

I was gone for about an hour today and when I came back my computer had automatically UPDATED to SP2. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Don't ask me how I honestly don't know. I just now figured it out. All day today my system has been running really sluggish and now I know why. I will have to uninstall all of my games and re-install them in the hopes that they will work without crashing me to a reboot or desk top.

What I want to say I would like to do but will not is: KILL EVERY MTF'ING MICROSOFT EMPLOYEE WHO CAUSED THIS PROBLEM!

And then STRING THAT SKINNY SOB - FOUNDER OF MS - UP TO THE NEAREST TELEPHONE POLL WITH A SIGN AROUND HIS NECK THAT READS "I was a greedy bastard!"

There ought to be a law against this kind of update and break your PC crap. The law should allow people to sue for damages and such if the update causes problems.

Re: OT: Speed Tests

I always found Americas Army quite neat. Anyway, why do you want to re-install your games on the SP2 patched system? You shouldn't need to do this. I certainly didn't need to do it on my machine... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif

You should try Homeworld 2 and Ufo Aftermath. I had both of them but they didin't run on my computer. Though I think they will as soon as I change its motherboard and reinstall W2k. Also I have heard that Galactic Civilizations is a good game also. Though, I haven't tried that one.

Re: OT: Speed Tests

Couldn't get it to work. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif Last time I was there, I had to use IE and and download Sun's newest Version of Java. Sheesh.

I just want to test my connection, sometimes it goes down for no reason -- often for days. I'd like to keep tabs on speed and try to figure it out, or see if a slowdown preceeds the shutdown.

What ever happend to the good old days, where you loaded a web page, it did an autosearch of another page, and just spit back your speed?

Re: OT: Speed Tests

The game is indeed neat, I just could never get any where in it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif I will try again later, after I finish Far Cry on its hardest settings.

AT, did you have the settings in automatic update to either notify you before updating or to avoid downloading the news patches completely? If not then that is why it automatically updated, it downloaded the SP and installed without notifying you because that is what it was set to do.

But if you indeed had this set to notify you before installing the patch or not download any new patches completely that is indeed a intriguing problem.

1240 down and 838 up

It supports 5 windows machines and 1 linux server on a network. The server supports 6 domains, almost 100 email accounts, personal web pages, ftp, dns, elists, a small news feed, acts as a server for a MUD game and for various other PbEM games I might get into. I dont rely on any ISP for anyything.

10821 down, 436 up, and I know that's not my maximum download speed. I have, on occasion, had downloads go faster than 3 MB/s, or about 25000 in the units this test uses.

I just bought X2, and it arrived a couple days ago. Unfortunately, I can't get the thing to work! Crashes on me right when the first "loading" page comes up....updating my graphics card drivers better work, or I'm gonna be pissed!

Oh yeah, the subject of the thread...well I'm on dialup, so I guess its not worth posting my stats. I sure envy you people with your Broadband connections. I've been waiting for about 20 minutes just for a 6 MB file to download!! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/evil.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/mad.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/evil.gif

Re: OT: Speed Tests

Atrocities, it is a space simulator with emphasis on RPG, trade and building your own interstellar corporation. And if this trade stuff is too boring for you, no problem, start pirate or bounty hunter carrer and hunt for greedy merchants and richy CEOs.
Reminds Starfury, but with much better graphics and really true 3d. Powerful comp required!
Site: X2: The Threat

Renegade, latest patch is 1.4. Try updating your game. They fixed quite a lot of bugs there.

It is similar but just not a on-line game.

But my speed tests arn't that great...I am only pulling about 600 down and 350 up. But work is picking up and we will be needing a faster connection so we can connect two locations to act as if they are one location so we might go with T1! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Hey, AT, (and anybody else) if you like FPS games you should check out Planetside. It isnt the greatest graphics in the world, but it is online and it is really fun. It is a sort of MMO/FPS hybrid. It has huge areas (and i mean really huge) with dynamic battle lines and objectives constantly switching hands.

Yes, it is a MMO which means a monthly bill, however, you dont actually have to pay. They have a program called Planetside Reserves. This allows you to play up to a limited level but costs nothing. I strongly recommend that you check it out. The client is a free download as well.
