SE V Status

Could someone give a few comments on the state of SE V, please. I feel like I'm in limbo.

Same as it has been for awhile. It is still in production and Malfador is shooting to start beta testing in January. Release so far is said to be hopefully Summer of 2005. That will allow for a full 6 months of beta testing and bug squishing. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Awsome. I hope it has better graphics... and an even bigger tech tree! lol One things for sure, I'll be one of the first to order me a pre-order copy at ebgames.com http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif this game is sweet.

Re: SE V Status

Oh bigger tech tree it will have. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Malfador has already told us that the tech tree will pretty be never ending. If you want to keep researching a particular area you can and the technology will keep progressing, albeit slower at the higher levels. No more will we see weapons stopping at level 5 DUC, etc... It will be great! So until that time continue to enjoy SEIV!

haha, awsome! That will be super fun! Will it be modable like this one? Cuz I love the aspect of consumer-customization :p

Of course! Malfador has made their name on moddability. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Make sure to read the chat logs of the two IRC chat sessions with Aaron Hall on the subject of SEV:

I keep a list of features on my website for Space Empires V in case you don't want to wander through Fyron's chat logs, you can find it here:

Unlimited Galaxy size and unlimited empires!

How do you keep track of all that?. Obviouslly there must be some limit albeit a very large one, otherwise it would take eternity to run a turn. It sure would be interesting however to send a Voyager mission out in one direction and find other empires even after travelling for 10 years.

The chat logs are just so much more filling, but your page is good for a quick skim when you don't have any free time. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Well, the chats logs are certainly filled with hard to read text, strange Posts by the normal irc crazies, and some guy named Fyron who thinks he is in charge.

Anyway, both our Posts are shameful plugs for our websites - which the people of these forums should support much more often! If you are one of these people, make haste, and visit both our sites! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/cool.gif

Thanks a lot Cap'n, I could never get through IRC logs.

One question for everybody, what is this .X format for ships? Where can I find more about creating ships in this format?

Re: SE V Status

This thread in the Starfury forums has info on how to make ships for Starfury. Most of it should apply to SEV as well:

Re: SE V Status

Well, this all sounds really neat! However, I am concerned about the AI.

Will the AI be able to play a credible game with such a plethora of options available to it and its enemies?

Will the goofy behavior in SEIV be fixed? (ex. dealing with mined warp points.)

Will there be a set of recommended options in the game setup for play against the AI that will maximise its effectiveness? (NOT the same as "hardness". Ex. in SEIV eliminating intelligence made the AI a bit tougher foe.)

Looking forward to it.

Any word on ground combat? Will it be more like MOO3 or perhaps Hearts of Iron or Star General (wishful thinking)?

I think there will be a cage in Santa Rosa, Ca, USA, where you'll have to travel to, to finish ground combat with your opponent.

Weren't USA and HBO bidding to be able to show it as a Friday Night Fights feature? ;-)

Ok this is going OT, but with talk of a fight cage on tv (and I know its a joke) I have to mention something I saw Last night on TV. I didn't watch it just saw the beginning but there was a program called MANHUNT. Reality TV is getting bad (which is hard to think, I mean "it wasn't bad to start with?") when they have a team of body builders chasing the contestants across an island while setting booby traps and trying to shoot them (with paint guns). I thought THE RUNNING MAN was supposed to be outrageous fiction. Perhpas Stephen King was having visions of the future.
