Periodic Rebootings...
My computer seems to reboot itself without warning roughly every day and a half to 2 days... It has been doing this for about a week now. Spyware scans turn up negative. Virus scans, the same. I have run HijackThis, and have afixed the log of the scan to this post. Does anything in there look like some form of malware?
Hmm... there are 5 or 6 instances of Explorer.exe in there, even though I only have one copy running... I have an alternate shell running, so there is no reason for more than a single instance of Explorer.exe... |
Re: Periodic Rebootings...
Does Win-dohs generate an error report for you?
|
Re: Periodic Rebootings...
There is some sort of minidump that has been generated, but it is all gibberish... not a log at all. :-\
Hmm... this was in the System Logs of the Event Viewer, from 10/20... Quote:

Re: Periodic Rebootings...
Do you have the chance to send an error report - do that if you haven't - and that will sometimes offer more of an explanation for your error than the dump file.
BTW, you call your computer "Dragon"? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif My computer is Boxby! |

Re: Periodic Rebootings...
If you're using Windohs XP or maybe 2000 then by default when your computer resets and re-boots a message comes up offering to send an error report. Check your start up and recovery tab in the advanced tab of system properties - see what options you have selected.

Re: Periodic Rebootings...
I believe that is a feature solely of XP...

Re: Periodic Rebootings...
It looks like you might have some sort of periodic driver conflict from your Mobo. It wouldn't be the first time that has happened with an Asus board.
I've been living with it for far too long myself! Hmm. The more I look at the text you posted - what is this computer TRIPLEJLY? |
Re: Periodic Rebootings...
Upon further investigation, TripleJLy is the name of my flatmate's computer.

Re: Periodic Rebootings...
Fyron, your MB my be going bad. ASUS has sold a lot, and I do mean a lot, of bad Boards in the Last three years. The chances are pretty good that yours if failing.
The same thing happened to me when my ASUS board failed in 2000. The computer would just reboot. I then went to an MSI mother board and well, we know how that turned out. Check to see if there is any info about ASUS MB failures that mirror your problem. I am pretty sure it is the MB that is causing the issue. |
Re: Periodic Rebootings...
If the motherboard was going bad, it would seem to reason that random hardware failures would occur, not just reboots at 2 day intervals...
|
Re: Periodic Rebootings...
Maybe there's something wrong with your flatmates computer that is messing up your local network, causing windows to crash.
Also, have you checked for bad RAM? |

Edit; I would advise going to the ASUS site and getting the latest drivers for your Mobo. It is quite possible that a current driver has become corrupted. By reinstalling and/or upgrading your drivers you will solve a corrupted driver problem. If the problem persists, it may be an indication of imminent hardware failure. |

Re: Periodic Rebootings...
Is there some program I can run to test my hardware? Randomly replacing parts to see what causes the rebootings isn't really feasible...
