Best mod\'s

What are the best mods keeping to the general features of the original game? not like a star trek mod. Like a addon mod, that keeps the same atmoshepre as the original. Any reccomendations?

Re: Best mod\'s

There are not very many... the whole point of a mod is to change the general features. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif

Ultimate Strategies Mod

Adds numerous new formations and strategies for use, whilst making no changes to technologies, etc. at all.

Fyron's Quadrant Mod

Makes massive changes to the maps of the game, but no changes to the technologies, etc.

Krsqk System Mod

Like FQM, makes changes to the maps but not the technologies.

Devnull Mod

Makes minor changes to technologies and such in the interests of balance and AI useability. Very similar to stock in most ways.

Pirates and Nomads

This mod makes a few semi-radical changes to technologies, but is somewhat similar to stock...

Ok, so forget that idea then. Just whats the plain best mod then? (Maybe like a top 5 list or something? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif) Come to think of it, I'm going to se how far I can get modding it myself. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

/me counts down till Fyron comes in to advertise Adamant, SJ comes in to talk about P&N and AT comes in to tell everyone about the latest additions to the ST mod.

But mostly Fyron. He big talk on Adamant.

Re: Best mod\'s

PvK Balance mod is a good fix to the imbalances of the empire design phase of play. It doesn't make any other changes. It only changes the costs during empire design.

Re: Best mod\'s

Is this the line to shamlessly plug one's own mod?

If so then I'd have to make a push for my Dark Nova 4 mod. Makes relativly little changes to actual techs and game style but radically alters ship designs for increased diversity. Lots more sizes and Lots of mounts. Other stuff in there too but those are the key aspects.

The TDM-ModPack doesn't change any rules/weapons/buildings/anything on the game, it just beefs up the AI. You can find it here:

I like the DevNull mod,.. well actually once I gave it some 'miner' changes and put it on 'A Steroid' I liked it even better. (I know it's a bad attempt at plugging my mod, but I just had to do it.)

Cheers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

P.S. my mod can be found in my sig.

Can someone remind me how to change the order of mods listed in the Modpicker?. I have 22 mods and I only use 5 of them. Its annoying having to scroll down to get a mod since they aren't in alphabetical order.

When it comes to just plain neatness id have to say the Star Wars II mod, it has a horibble AI (wasnt made for solo play).

They are in alphabetical order for me (V 2.21). I gather the only other sorting making sense would be by modification/creation date, and I seem to recall the previous Version I used work that way, but don't quote me on that.

Well my Version is 2.26

Re: Best mod\'s

You can place a character such as '_' at the beginning of the folder names for the mods you want to appear at the top. This should cause them to appear at the beginning of the list.

My favorite is the DevNull mod... It does a great job balacing some issues... For example, it manages to make missiles viable for a much longer period of time.
