MyPrecious Is Gone
Hey guys, a horrible thing happend to me Last night, I my cat, momma, of eleven years, became very ill, and today I had to have her put to sleep. Needless to say I am rather sad at the moment and just a bit put out with God.
I know things happen and everything dies sooner or later, but this just really bits. I have been expecting it for sometime, but I honest to God didn't expect it so soon. I just had to post something to help get this hurt off of my chest. Somehowe talking about it does help, a bit. Thanks for reading, now you should go love on your pets, you never know when it will be the Last time. LINK to Picture I had her for so long and I never gave her a name. I am really trying not to cry right now, but I am loosing the battle steadly. God I miss her. |
Re: MyPrecious Is Gone
She was a lovely animal....I'm sorry for your loss I know how it feels to lose a pet.
My dog of 14 (had it since I was 3) years died Last year and I was seriously depressed for a while and it was hard to beleive he wasn't going to be there anymore http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif. |
Re: MyPrecious Is Gone
I know exactly how it feels Atrocities. I lost my cat Sammy a few years ago (had him for at least 11 years) I was only 15ish at the time. Really sorry to hear this, Cats are great pets and friends. Don't worry about crying, Let it out and remember all the times you had with her, it'll make you feel less pent up.
If it makes you feel better in anyway as I'm typing this my kitten just relieved itself in the litter tray a few metres away in the kitchen and it STINKS to high heaven http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/Sick.gif |
Re: MyPrecious Is Gone
Poor little cat he looks like my one year old cat Max. Sry Atrocities, poor little cat.

Re: MyPrecious Is Gone
I am doing better now guys. Thank you. The pain is passing, but the grief will be with me for a long long time. But talking about it does help.

Re: MyPrecious Is Gone
Beautiful cat. And NICE picture.
We tend to keep 3 cats in rotation (always having a young one helps keep the old ones from getting to inactive). At the moment the one at the top is a majorly monstrous throw rug so I wouldnt be surprised if she will go soon. We also keep a big dog in the back yard, and an "ankle assassin" dog in the house. We love pets. But in California its getting almost impossible to find replacements for free. Took us 8 months to find a free kitten and almost a year to find a dog. We are still looking for a small inside one. Looks like we are going to have to cough up a couple of hundred to get one. |
Re: MyPrecious Is Gone
8 months to find a free kitten?!?!?!?!?!?!
I could probably pick up the paper right now or look in our local advertiser and find you a ton of free kittens. Looks like Ohio needs to export a few kittens to California. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif Heaven knows i'm always having people ask us to take another kitten but we feel two in the house is plenty. Sorry about your loss Atrocities. A few years ago or so we had to put down the cat we had basically since Richard and I got married, it was the hardest decision we've ever had to make in our lives. My prayers are with you. |

Re: MyPrecious Is Gone
Thank you all for the kind words of support. It is very kind of you all and I do appreciate it. Believe it or not, but sharing this news and reading your Posts has helped me cope with her parting.
It really is uncanny how such a small animal can become so important to ones emotions. I honestly believe you never know how important something or someone is until it or they are gone. |
Re: MyPrecious Is Gone
You also have my condolences. It is amazing how quickly we can grow attached to our pets. My wife got me a dog for our anniversary, and I never really realized how much I love him until we came home and found the front door wide open and our dog gone. Of course, knowing his personality, I was assuming we had been robbed and he had tagged along with the thieves. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif The only damage he'd do if someone broke in is causing them to trip when they turned around. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

Re: MyPrecious Is Gone
As a LONG-TIME cat lover (and a guy bad at Clinton imitations), "I feel your paiin".
(an attempt at levity...sorry) Don't know if I've told my story, or how many times, but I had to do the same with my Siamese cat, "Rat". Siamese cats have a tendancy to become a one-person cat and I belonged to him. I was crying so badly when I took him for his "final" visit to the vet that they told me to go around back (because of the people in the waiting room). He looked at me as they put the needle in his paw and his eyes "drifted away". I'll NEVER forget it. And it took me about 5 years before I'd get another cat because I never wanted to go through that again. My mother always told me that guys who loved cats are special. And, if that's true, it stands to reason a guy would shed a tear (or just out-and-out cry) at the loss of one. I'll predict this, though (based on my own experience), this won't be the Last time you cry over "momma". You'll most likely be surprised some day and remember her and get all "blurry" again. You have my sympathies http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif. |

Heh my family has 6 animals
4 birds 1 Cat 1 Dog We used to have 7 but as I said my old dog passed away. The funny thing is my 50lbs dog is terrified of the 5lbs cat and the cat is afraid of 3 of the 4 birds heh. |
Re: MyPrecious Is Gone
AT, I feel and share your loss. A good pet like momma will be missed, but the flip side of that coin is that you have 11 good years of memories to cherish. All I can say is don't dwell on the loss, celebrate the life.
Be well my friend. |
Re: MyPrecious Is Gone
losing a loved pet is a truely painful experience and it seems the older you are the more painful it gets, even if you can deal with it better. The only thing i've found that compares (indeed is worse than) is losing a close family member, probably because a pet (especially a cat, dog or other 'smart' animal) IS a member of your family.
Most importantly don't forget the good times, keep them in your heart. Xeno. |
Re: MyPrecious Is Gone
Deepest sympathies, Atrocities. My dog of 13 years had to be put down two years ago. Worst part about it was he was in Canada and I was in Ireland, so I wasn't even able to be with him when he went. Took me a long time to forgive my parents for not telling me until after he was gone.
But now, even though I'm admittedly pretty misty-eyed after reading through this thread, whenever I think back about the ol' boy it doesn't take long for me to think of something he did that makes me smile, or even laugh out loud. And I think that's the sign of a truly good pet. They're only there for a short time, but in that time they enrich our lives and make our world a better, happier place. |

Its a good thing. The pounds and spca are far less full. They can keep them longer. Less animals are put down. So its not like Im wishing that the campaign didnt happen. Everything has its pros and cons. This is more pro than con, its just something Im coming up against lately. Ive been considering becoming a pup-house for one of the working dog Groups. Seeing-eye, hearing dogs, wheelchair helpers, search and rescue, disaster, police, medical sniffers. One of those Groups. |
Re: MyPrecious Is Gone
That IS a good thing, Gandalf!
Each year, the Federal government (here in the US) hosts the CFC...Combined Federal Campaign. It's a massive attempt to get donations for literally thousands of agencies. You get a booklet with all these agencies listed and you choose which ones you want to donate to. This year, my wife and I gave $700 ($350 each). And each year, at least $100 goes to the Atlanta Humane Society and a national animal organization. In Atlanta, we regularly see (on the evening local news...when they can fit them in) adertisements for pet adoption. As you know, animals are put to death after a certain period of time. I'd love to see a long waiting period for animal adoption here but, alas, we DO live in "redneck-ville" where "bubba" doesn't give a second thought to neutering his pets and just dumps the results somewhere. We have 2 cats now. Trixie was gained before she was taken to the pound. And Taffy was offered to us by someone who found her huddling in the gutter of a street during a cold rainy day. Taffy, incidently, according to the vet, must have been living on the streets for about half a year. Her growth was stunted, she was matted with grease, clumps, dirt, etc. She weighed about 4 and a half pounds. $200 dollars later, and 5 years later, she still remains small never reaching the 10-pound mark. She has a permanent ear infection that can't seem to be cured and has a grooming problem (probably from her hesitation to groom grease off her...or weakness), so we have to give her regular baths. But, for a cat that lived on the street so long and who has permanent physical problems, she's the one the kids love the most and she's absolutely the sweetest (not feral in the slightest). So, to get back on track, kudos to your community! |

My condolences Atrocities.
I have three cats myself and dread the day they will be gone. |
Re: MyPrecious Is Gone
Thanks guys. I do miss her so very much, but beings how she was really old, and in some discomfort, I hope and pray that she is better off now. I only wish that I had more time to have spent video taping her or taking more pictures. Alas I was cheated out time, but thankful for the time I did get to spend with her. She knew she was loved by me very much, and I will miss that relationship, as I would with any strong life long friendship.
I often think our God is a cruel, evil, and sadistic SOB, and keeping a positive faith is very hard in the light of all of these "acts of God" and man made atrocities. If there is a heaven or even a hell, and I am aloud in, I will search high and low for her, momma cat, and my sister. I know that death is something that many of us now have to look forward to more often than not. As we age we begin to lose those around us that have been with us since our births or shortly thereafter. This outlook is most depressing, but it is what we are faced with. The loss of our parents, grand parents, older siblings, pets, friends, and even our own deaths are now waiting for us to endure. I have suffored some horrible set backs in my life, as I am sure many of you have also, and all I really want now is happiness and peace of mind about the future. But those dreams will never come true and that is deeply discouraging. Like I said, sho the important things in your life the affection they deserve, you never know when that Last lovey will be the Last. Now if only I could practive what I preach. |
Re: MyPrecious Is Gone
I know what you feel Atrocities. My family and I have 6 cats and 2 dogs. When one of them dies (which happens unfortunately often it seems) it always scars me right to the soul. Assuming I have a soul, which I'm not sure of! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif
I know I'll always remember a long haired grey kitten we got...he was..well I can't describe him. Who can describe the happiness their pet has brought them. Well, one day we came back from visiting my grandparents, and found him out on our driveway. All our animals live outside, and he had wandered out onto the road and was hit by a car. The saddest part is he was still alive, and in much pain. His back was broken and he could barely move. We had no choice but to take him and the gun out and put an end to his suffering. No matter what the pet, no matter what happens to them, we will always feel sorrow when they pass. You have my deepest condolences. |

Re: MyPrecious Is Gone
Thank you all again. I am still having a hard time believing that she is really gone. It caught up to me today while I was at my mothers. She originally was my Step Fathers cat, but she adopted me about a year after they got her when I stayed on their property while they lived in CA. She was knocked up at the time, and it was mid winter. She was hanging out with me in my Room, as it was the only room in the house that had heat at that time, long story, and I could tell she was about to pop. So I emptied and old box out and put a pear of old Levi’s in it for her. I then picked her up, was promptly hissed at, and set her in the box. She then looked up at me and I could tell that she was truly thankful. That was the beginning of a very long friendship. I had three new kittens in the morning.
I have added a new wish to my somewhat small list of things that I would wish for if I had the power to see them come to pass. Sorry, to details have to be kept confidential, so say the myth, but I think you all know what it might entail. My heart felt condolences go out to any of you who have lost a pet. Thank you for posting and for saying such nice things. |

Re: MyPrecious Is Gone
I wish to thank you atrocities for your condolence. I just had my Cat put down. For the Last week she wasn't eating and what worried me most she didn't drink from the tap. She would wait at the bathroom and when someone walked by she would lead them into the bathroom and wait for some one to turn on the tap for her. The disturbing part was she still led me, but she then looked at the water running from the tap. She was sort of sniffing the water but it was sort of "Sorry but I just can't do it". My mother is away and I felt guilty that, just perhaps, I was doing things wrong because she had a dirty chin caked with old food. I have been giving her new food and clean water but she wouldn't eat or drink. I finally decided that screw the vet expense I had to find out what was wrong. The vet showed me her tongue was paralysed and said he needed to talk to my mum about giving her an anasthetic. "Ok" I thought " a bit of anasthetic to calm her down so he can have a better look". "Once you talk to my mother about it I'll come back to get her" I said. He said there was no need. "Aha" I thought "overnight observation". While talking to my mother on the phone to tell her the vet wanted to talk, she explained what the anasthetic meant. I am an intelligent person but I am also strange in that I don't make connections very well (my mind is on a different road to normal people. My mother used to say I had no common sense). Apparently she had a stroke. I am not upset, except for my nervous breakdowns I don't have much emotion, and if she couldn't eat or drink then her time was finished. I just walked upstairs though and realised there was no cat around and how empty the house is now. I guess what I will miss most is going to sleep and waking up of a morning with her body sleeping next to my legs.
Edit: sorry, almost forgot. Sorry about your loss as well. |
