Does This Look Familiar?
 

Hey folks. An idea for a race called the Venduu, arch-rivals to the under-construction Solarians, popped into my head this afternoon. I cobbled together a rough Escort (see attached), and apologize for the greyscale but I haven't gotten around to the colour scheme/texture yet.

Problem is, both the ship and the name sound eerily familiar to me and I can't figure out why. If either one sounds familiar to anyone, can you let me know? Don't want to go stepping on anyone's toes by unwittingly copying their work and passing it off as my own...

Good to know it doesn't look like any other shipsets, but does it remind anyone of a ship they might have seen on a SF movie/TV series? Still can't shake that nagging familiar feeling.

I dont think so and I have watched alot of Sci-Fi movies (especially older ones). I think you are in the clear. (though that is not a legal opinion by any stretch of the imagination.)

Kinda reminds me of a Highliner or something from one of the Dune TV movies or the Original Movie....Maybe not a ship...but something similiarly shaped...maybe the the container that housed the 'navigator'....

Casemod? Define casemod. Well, I figured out why it felt familiar. There is a shipset out there that I thought looked a lot like this one, but upon closer inspection, they look nothing alike. Funny that. BTW, if anyone out there is any good at creating aliens, let me know, because my rendering program just can't handle that sort of thing.

Huh? I read the reviews of MoO3 so the reference is lost on me. Are you saying the Solarian shipset looks like something from MOO3 or that the name Solarian is in MoO3? Truth be known I pulled the name from The Solarian League in a David Weber novel.

There is no Solarian race in MOO3, though the first and only game of MOO3 I played, I played a customized Human race called the Solarians http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

Come to think of it, the Venduu ship does look sort-of, kinda like a variation on the Cybernetik race ships from MOO 3. But not really a knock off. Just similar in having those seperate hull sections joined by spars.
