Is any one else having connection problems to the forum lately?

Re: Slow Forums

Yeah, for me, little bit Last night then pretty bad this morning. I wasn't blaming Shrapnel's computers or my DSL connection -- I just figured some random internet pipline slowdown. Now that you mention it Atrocities, I'm not so sure about the cause. I'm off to go check SANS to see if there's a worm going around the ISPs have to filter.

[EDIT]
No, nothing like that is happening. Hmm..is there a recent patch to a Shrapnel Game which is being mass-downloaded and tying up the server.

Re: Slow Forums

I thought it was my connection, but I uploaded a 20 meg file in under 5 minutes and then downloaded a 200 meg file in 10 minutes so I know it was not my connection.

I'm wonder if we should buy some Shrapnel products or not?

How many of us are using FireFox with multiple tabs open to threads?

That wouldn't make much difference, really, since only one tab at a time would be active... Unless you do something silly like have it auto-refresh each tab every 10 seconds hoping for new Posts. The main page would be more practical for such a thing anyways...

Anyone else having the text input boxes being incredibly small? They're apparently still working but you can't read what you are typing.

And it appears that all the text from all of Fyron's Messages have dissappeared. At least for me they have. OH and Arkon's too.

You can change the size of the text fields in My Home. Click on Edit next to Display Preferences.

Well I stopped using the "refresh all tabs" option when I realized that I had a dozen tags open to the same forum. Of course apache can handle me doing that. But I realized that I was being a system-load all by myself. If many people did it then they would probably end up lining up and waiting their turns.

Its like using XNews for newsgroup reading. Works like a charm if you are using multiple servers at once but if you have multiple windows open to the same server it can be felt.

My vote is on the CA broadband shortage problems. They must be having rolling broadband black outs or something. Now watch all of our broadband ISP companies tell us we must reduce our broadband usage by 20% so they can help those poor saps in CA.

(OR what ever state Shrapnel Games is located in.)

I was having seemingly random stoppages...then all of a sudden, magically almost, it'll start back up again. Then it'll stop....you get the picture. It hasn't done it in quite a while though. I thought it was just my crappy dial-up connection.

Re: Slow Forums

I've noticed semi-random slowdowns myself, but I figured it was just imagemod traffic or something.

I usually only have two tabs of shrapnel open. One for the SE4 topic list, and the second wither in a topic or checking out a different area, like the SF forum.

Re: Slow Forums

Yes, I've noticed a 'markable' slowdown while browsing the forums. Often, when I click on a thread I get the "Waiting for www shrapnelcommunity com" message on the botton info bar. I'm using Mozilla and I don't multi-browse when here on the forums.

I even noticed that when I come to the forum login page, it often pauses while searching for the banners.

Anyway, it may be a traffic thing, or there might be a problem with the forum or shrapnelgames.com's htp server. I don't know but I hope things speed up soon.

Occasionally, maybe once a week or so, everything is working fine for a while, then I click on a thread that I want to read, and I get a "this page contains no data" error or something and then the entire forum seems to be down. Then a few minutes later, it works again!

Re: Slow Forums

When it slows down for me all I have to do is go to a fast page that I know works. What I do is click a thread then I cant go back so I goto Yahoo then click my bookmark of this page and then come back. It goes faster then trying to wait for the thread back to main button
