Re: First Time
I found a demo of SE2 (yes, two http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/eek.gif) on a "junk shareware compilation" CD my dad bought... looks like he helped me find a diamond in the rough! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/laugh.gif

Re: First Time
My bro introduced SE1 back when I was like 7 or 8. Then I found out there was an SEIV awhile back when I rediscovered my SE1 copy on an old computer and went searching the internet for something and found SE.net then found here and PBW.

Re: First Time
I came across SE:III on the internet, played it for a bit. Later on I came across SE:IV. 4 years later, still on SE:IV. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/eek.gif

Re: First Time
Friend of mine gave me a copy of the original Master of Orion. After becoming thoroughly addicted, when I first got an internet connection, I went looking for games of a similar genre and came across SE3. Got myself totally hooked on that, which of course led to SE4 and now SE5. I only ask that Aaron not start the SE5 Beta before Jan 13th, since that'll be my 1 year anniversary with my lil lady and if I forget about that, which I surely will if a SE5 beta is involved, then I'll probably end up losing an appendage. Possibly my most important appendage. That would be my right hand, which is quite vital for the opperation of my mouse. Minds out of the gutter people!

Anyone still have a copy of SE1 around? Malfador released it for a short time free of charge, but now it's only bundled with SE3... |
Re: First Time
I got hooked on Dominions 1, then Dominions 2, followed it to the forums here. Then I looked at some of the other games offered here. The new M.U.L.E. (Space HoRSE), Intergalactic Trader, Dungeon Odyssey, War Engine, Star Fury, and Space Empires IV
They are all hard to explain to people who expect a game to be like the ones they buy off the shelves. Lots of glitz and glamour and deleted in a month. But they all Laster more than a month. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |
Re: First Time
Yahoo search for 'design ships'. I think that's how I found stars!, too.
http://www.knightsoft.ca/ Another of those nearly unknown internet gems. |
Re: First Time
When it appeared that STARS! supernova had no chance of ever coming out I went through a mail-order catalogue looking for a replacement to fill my 4E fix. Found SE4:Gold, it was expensive (we all know SE4 isn't mainstream so they had unboxed copies imported) but the description sounded good. Got it, played it for awhile, stopped playing for a few weeks, then took step to PBW.

Re: First Time
I was looking for something similar to Starfleet Battles (and found the Starfleet Command series, btw) and stumbled upon SEIII. Played it for a while without knowing that SEIV was out. When I found out about SEIV, SEIV Gold was in the works and about to be released, so I bought SEIV Gold and the rest is history.

Re: First Time
Many years ago, I found the SEIII demo when I was searching for strategy games while looking at a games site. Downloaded it and started playing... I have been addicted since. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Re: First Time
I first found SEII about 5 or 6 years ago (I was only 11 or 12 back then! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/shock.gif ). Downloaded it, loved it, then found SEIII. Downloaded the demo, got hooked really fast, then bought it. Then found SEIV Gold, bought it, and that's how I came to be here.

Re: First Time
I was on the old TOP forum when one of the members, cannot remember which one, posted a link to the SEIV beta. I had been searching for years for a game like SE IV, and jumped on the demo like a starving dog on fresh meat. I never looked back.
If only I had know of Stars and SE series back in 98, oh boy would I have been spoiled rotten. |
Re: First Time
I first found Se3 (demo) while browsing Tucows.com a while ago for free shareware games I could try out. The demo Version was a bit hard for me to master, and I never did play it fully, but it did get me interested in Malfador. I began to check Malfador's main site often, and I found out that Se4 was in the works. I downloaded the se4 demo, and kept playing it to no end; I never did purchase the normal se4 outright, I guess the demo had satisfied my gaming needs, but when se4 gold was in development, I again tried the demo for se4 gold, and decided to start posting here at the Shrapnel Forums; not long after Se4G's release, I shelled out 100$ canadian (conVersion, then taxes, then shipping) and got se4 gold. I've been happy ever since.

Re: First Time
A friend showed me SE2 a long long very long extremely long time ago. Then a long long very long time ago I decided to look for the game myself so I could play it and found out about SE3. Waited for SE4 and bought it. Oh, time is reletive, I'm sure all you old guys would consider my life a blink of the eye.
