Space Empires V....those scenes look sweet

Really impressed by the scenes/screenshots shown on Malfador Machinations' website for SE V. Definitely looking forward to this game. MOO3 was so....well to follow dear old mom's advice if you cannot say anything nice do not say anything at all.

Going off topic Star Fury reminded me of the Fading Suns Noble Armada game, which seems to be destined for vaporware. Any possibility of Malfador Machinations teaming up with Holistic design to complete such a game? Or while I am wishing...maybe more like begging, how about a Malfador Machinations remake or sequel to Emperor of the Fading Suns?

If those old pics look sweet, you're going to suffer lockjaw when you see the game. (btw thanks for the aprieciation of my art)

I make alot of Wallpapers as I render different events, colonies and finale pics, and believe it or not, not everything I do will get in the game. But once the game is out we'll make alot of the stuff available for modders.

This week has been really good and I have made a few dozen renders so far. (and we're only tuesday.)

Anyway, thanks and have a great day.

Cheers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Are those scenes actual screenshots from SE V, the way they are going to look in-game, or are they title screen / introductory portraits? If we're actually going to get scenes like that with the ships and planets moving around during the game, that would be absolutely fantastic.

I believe they have been rendered in Bryce.

Re: Space Empires V....those scenes look sweet

Fyron is right, but there is a bit more detail I think you might be interested in..

First, the stellar backgrounds are created in PSP using the Flamingpear Glitteretto, Solarcell and Lunarcell plugins. These are done at a 1024x768 rez.

Second, in bryce I have made a template where there is a 2D object in the background that I map the stellar background to. (with a bit of lighting to make it easier to see.

Third, I import the .3ds Versions of the Actual ship models that are being used in SE5. I then play around with different compositions and churn out renders.

Fourth, When I make planets in Lunarcell I often like them so much that I save them as planet_map pics that aaron will be able to plug into SE5. So there is a good possibility that you will see many of the planets in my renders in the final game.

This info has been brought to you by "The curious minds fodder of artsville."

Cheers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

I believe those pictuers on Malfador home page are not in game pictures, but rather like loading-phase pictures. I am more than happy if somebody proves me wrong.

If that ever happened I would probably declare Aaron god/pancreator http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif I've always wanted to make a Fading Suns Mod for Space Empires, but I think it's just not geared up to well for it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif But it would be cool, It's tempting... The trick would be in the details to make it enjoyable. As for Starfury i think that might work, but it's time i don't have right now.

RD Is still reeling from the events of the fading suns game he played in Last night

As for the planets thing David Mentioned, I'm using the same thing to make extra planets for the imagemod (it's slightly on hold at the moment due to college) and I'm experimenting with some planet textures and stuff in starfury. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif Might post some screenshots for your enjoyment later sometime.

maybe SEV would allow the creation of a Fading Suns mod....

Letīs see what we would need:

1 - A Symbionte race that have organic tech and spreads very quicly...
2 - 5 Noble Houses that have normal tech progress....
3 - An imperial Eye, Stigmata Garrison and Imperial Fleet factions that can be controlled by the noble houses or answer to the noble houses...
4 - A league faction that sells a lot of things to the players...
5 - A Church faction (with sub-factions) that procribes cetain techs and fight heretics...
6 - A Vau faction that keep to itself unless atacked...

what more?

Hmm...Inhabitable planets would be rarer, And remember that high technology is rare, so maybe a lot of technology should be ruins only. Repairing would be a lot less easier with the lack of knowledge to do so in the known worlds. If racial traits stay the same as in SEIV you could allow One Noble House Trait + one church trait (depending on which sect the noble house supports more) for each race, unless you play as aliens which kind of destroys the premise of the game. The Imperial Eye and Intelligence agencies could be noble house specific.

The League would be ineresting to implement... Perhaps Costly Components and Facilities that respresent the skills they provide and grant great benefits.

When SEV is released I will actually consider making a mod for it based on Fading Suns, my friend has a lot of the sourcebooks.

Symbiots.... *shudders*

Lol, It would be very interesting...I think I'll write this stuff down and keep it for when SEV is released.

Those ships are too low-poly to be loading screens. They must be real time renders. Which means they're probably from somewhere within the game.

The models for the game were used, but they are not screenshots from the game. They were rendered in various programs, as per David's posting about it below...

Agreed Aaron for pancreator if an EFS remake is every done by MM.

I volunteer to help you RD. Aren't you glad of my assistance? Of course you are; silly me. Now, where did I put my whip... Here it is.

*Aims the whip in the general direction of RD (that is, north), with a threatening gesture* Oh, and the whip of course knows where RD is. The compass has been invented to make sure England and France fought each other. Otherwise, it would have been quite confusing, with English soldiers speaking French, and French lands (or most of France from time to time) under English control.

Oh, I was digressing with my alternative history. I would certainly like to see such a mod if it is like Emperor of the Fading Suns. Obviously, unless you needed something about modding, I would be of no assistance whatsoever, but that's nothing new eh?

Well When SEV comes out I'll certainly need people to help come up with Ideas and Such for facilities, descriptions and all that stuff, and general play testing. I'm asking my friend if i can borrow his books when it's released so we can start, Hopefully until that happens, I can just gleam ideas form the current game i'm in.

Also, Try and Whip me Alneyan, but it's winter in England now and that means one thing: "Rain Season." Any attempts to invade my country and we'll have a repeat of the Battle of Agincourt....or Mud Wrestling, but if you're fighting at that range you haven't discovered ranged weapons...like orbital lances http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

Re: Space Empires V....those scenes look sweet

I should be able to do some play testing, especially if you love having analyses serving no actual purpose (aren't numbers lovely?).

Agincourt never happened actually. See, France calls that battle "Azincourt", while Britons call it "Agincourt". Therefore, since the two names do not match, there has been no such battle. Instead, the two armies met themselves, and went to their business afterwards. Oh, the battle itself was quite a disaster, I will grant you that.

Nonetheless, the solution to that problem is quite simple. France merely needs to wait for the monarch doing a good job at ruling England to die. Until then, the strategy is to stay clear from any enemy army, while hoping for that king/queen to die. Once it has happened, the process of reconquest may begin. It is sadly almost literally true; had Henry V not died after that siege, France would have had some serious trouble (and the same could probably go for Henry II and his Angevine Empire).

Therefore, in accord with this policy, I will simply call on the Auld Alliance, and leave Scotland handle the matter of administring the needed whipping. Oh, the Last provisions of the treaty were revoked a century ago; that could be somewhat of a problem. But I will think of something, be sure of it! Even if this means having to do some Mud Wrestling, Mud Crawling or Mud Throwing!

Oh, we were talking about Fading Suns. Is it anything like the strategy game Emperor of the Fading Suns, or is the game simply quite different from the books?

I've only played the video game briefly. But i can tell you now it's similar enough, and with the actual roleplaying game there's easily enough to make a mod from, actually I worry there may be too much to make a mod from http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif
