3D models
1 Attachment(s)
Hi all,
I've been away for quite some time (about 2 months) and during that time I begun and almost finished another education. I'll be graduating coming april and then I'll officially bear the title of doctor!! Yeah! Okay enough explaining. During my absence I have also been doing some 3D modeling on various models. I have no intention of making a full size shipset soon, but it's a beginning of something that might come. Please give your unsalted opnion about this model. I think you will all recognize it without too much trouble. |
Re: 3D models
That is very dam impressive Timstone.
Perhaps a little dark but it looks very cool, just like the borg ships should http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif |
Re: 3D models
Hey RD!! I was hoping I would find you here. Glad to hear you're still around.
Thanks for the comment. I thought the first comment would be about too much lighting. |
Re: 3D models
Nice texture, the beauty is in the details. I like how you have different 'focus areas' where the detail is higher. It forces the eye to move around the pic and this in turn ads a certain excitement to what would otherwise be plain.
I can't wait to see how 7 of 9 turns out in your models.. What? you don't have plans that involved? That's ok, my imagination will fill in the blanks. Oh, and welcome back. Cheers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |
Re: 3D models
Hahaha... 7 of 9, nah, people aren't my thing I could try but like you said it isn't I don't have that planned. I would like to do more Borg ships, but I'm having trouble with my 3D program (Solidworks), so untill I have solved those trouble all work is on hold.
I have done another model, but it is untextured. I'll do a search for it on my HD, when I find it I'll post it here. |

Okay, I found the other model I was working on. I hope you guys and girls like it.
It's a model from a Star Wars game, I don't know anymore which game. |
Re: 3D models
Wow, that second model is very well done. I like the shape, very slick and fast looking. Obviously a fighter. You say it's from a star wars game? I don't recognize the ship, so I can't help you there.
Keep up the fantastic work. Cheers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif P.S. BTW what program are you using to render the pics/ships? |
Re: 3D models
The Borg Cube is awesome. The fighter reminds me of Vic Viper from Gradius. That's a very good thing. If you did make a shipset I would certainly download it. Keep it up! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: 3D models
Thanks guys for the positive replies. Thanks a bunch!
Maybe in time I'll do a nice shipset for SE V, maybe... David: I use 3DS MAX 6 to render it all. I tried Lightwave, but I can't seem to get the hang of it very quickly. I do want to get more familiar with it though. As for the fighter, I searched for it and I discovered that it is a fighter from the Star Wars Jedi Starfighter game. Toth's starfighter I don't have good idea's yet on how to texture the fighter, maybe I'll stick with the example of Star Wars as seen in the pic on the page I gave in this post. Any suggestions? |

Well, I like the shape and think that it would look good with some simple x-wing type stripes. see this sample for what I mean.
http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/thr...2-Paintjob.jpg As for the body, a nice old beigeish brushed metal with a bit of dirt/stress marks on the engines and exhaust vents on the side of the ship. Cheers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |
Re: 3D models
Nice work David.
Hmm... I think I can manage something like that. Especially the stress that comes from flying something like that will come out nicely. Edit: David, you really should teach me how to implement my pics into the post. Please chew it out for me, I'm not that quick with things like that. |
Re: 3D models
place images within a post? Simple as 1, 2, 3...
1) Make a post (blah bla bla) and add your pic as an attachment. 2) Click on the 'attachment' link in your message. It will usually open a new window showing the image. 3) Click in the 'address bar' at the top of your browser and copy the link (Ctrl+c) 4) Edit your post and select the 'Image' option in the Instant UBB Code list. (below your edit window) and paste the url into the window (Ctrl+v) When you click 'OK' the image code and url will be placed at the bottom of your edit text. Feel free to cut and paste it anywhere in your text you wish. 5) Accept the changes and the image will now be shown in your post. The attachment is still there, but people won't need to click on attachment to see the pic. (it will still work, but it will be kind of pointless.) I hope this was not too complicated, Try it, and see if it works. Cheers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif P.S. One important unspoken rule,.. try not to post 'Huge' pics in this manner, it can and will throw the formatting of and get some people agitated. A good max size is 640x480. But 800x600 is probably safe too. |

Okay, let's try this.
Here's a pic of a Brainsucker from X-Com: Apocalypse. One of my favorite games! http://www.shrapnelcommunity.com/thr...rainsucker.png Weel what do you know, it really works!! Thanks David! Thumbs up for you! |
Re: 3D models
That's a very scary and horribly grotesque-looking monster... wouldn't want to be anywhere near one of those guys... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/eek.gif

Re: 3D models
Oogly.

Re: 3D models
Hehehe... they were the biggest menace in the beginning of the game. Later on you shoot them on sight. Nasty brainsuckers, they convert your soldier and use it against you. Nasty stuff I tell you.
I've been experimenting with different ways fo getting to the result David gave me. Within three full days of work I'll be able to produce neat textures for the fighter. So somewhere next week I'll be able to show the new pics of it. |
