We Need Another Patch For SE IV.
I really feel that another patch is in order for SEIV. I am sorry if this upsets people, but hey, there are some bugs that really need to be killed. Here is one:
1. The AI putting more than one component on a design even though the component has the restriction of ONE PER VEHICLE. |
Re: We Need Another Patch For SE IV.
Another patch would be nice to fix a few of the Last remaining bugs, but personally, I'd rather have Aaron working on SEV. Also, didn't he state in the 2 chat's a few months ago that he would NOT be implementing another patch for SEIV? Even if we wanted it, I don't think it would be happening.

Re: We Need Another Patch For SE IV.
I agree completely and if you see the topic about "known bugs" there would be quite a lot to fix in this Last patch.
And I wouldn't mind to pay a few dollars for this Last patch. SE IV is a wonderful game but it didn't reach the perfection regarding bugs as SE III. However I think that Renegade is correct and Aaron will not come back to SE IV. |
Re: We Need Another Patch For SE IV.
Thanks Q, I did not see the topic, but now that you mention it, I do recall it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif My bad.
There is a reason why Aaron will not do another patch and that is to say a true dissapointment. |

Re: We Need Another Patch For SE IV.
MHO.. these issues are important and even if there is no new patch for se4, at least if they are brought to Aaron's attention he can make sure these same issues don't creap into se5.
When sending suggestions to Aaron it is not only important to say what you would like, but what you find wrong with se4. It is by getting both kinds of info that Aaron can and will make se5 not only 'more' but 'better' than se4. {/end of My Humble Opinion} Cheers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif |
Re: We Need Another Patch For SE IV.
I'm not sure why anyone would get upset over you suggesting that we need another patch for SEIV. There would probably be quite a few people that think SE5 is a more important use of Aaron's time. You might also get a few comments to the effect that we can wish for another SEIV patch all you want, but we aren't going to get one. But why would anyone get upset about you wishing for one?

Re: We Need Another Patch For SE IV.
Some time ago I also said we needed another patch for SE IV, after some discussion we all agreed that Aaron's time would be better spend when he focused more on SE V.
I still think this is better, but another patch for SE IV wouldn't hurt. |
Re: We Need Another Patch For SE IV.
Why not just make an unofficial\mod patch that fixs it or is there something I am missing that makes this impossible besides being extremely time consuming

Re: We Need Another Patch For SE IV.
too bad he would not get someone to take over seiv or even open it up for everyone so the game can continue to evolve...
I would like to see it open up... It is unfortantate we are tied to the orginal developer for game upgrades.... Perhaps some one should approach Aaron about these options. |
Re: We Need Another Patch For SE IV.
A user getting the source code isn't unheard of--it happened with Terminus, and Terminus Point Edition, an optimized, Online-oriented patch (and lots of bug fixes) was the result.
|
Re: We Need Another Patch For SE IV.
This has come up numerous times, and Aaron's response has always been no, because nearly everything for SE5 would have to be rewritten, so as not to have any parts of it unnecessarily exposed at the source code level...
|
Re: We Need Another Patch For SE IV.
Didn't Aaron say he was going to release the source code for SE2, though? Perhaps now would be a good time to remind him of that...
|
Re: We Need Another Patch For SE IV.
So we all agree on three things:
1. Another patch for SEIV would be nice. 2. Aaron has no intention of doing another patch for SEIV 3. Aarons time is best served working on SE V. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif Question: 1. Home much time would it take to address some of these bugs and fix them? 2. If these bugs are problems, and the community begs Aaron to fix them when he has time do you think he would? 3. And finally do you think Aaron would allow someone else to fix them if he does not wish to? |
Re: We Need Another Patch For SE IV.
I only know I agree with #1...

To bad you and I are in the minority. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Re: We Need Another Patch For SE IV.
The game is still being sold. Given that and the support from the buying public for the game and the positive impact on reputation for support (which is already good) I think a patch fixing at least the worst of the known bugs would be both appropriate and desireable for both the public and Malfador. Remember, there are many who are seeing the SE series for the first time through SEIV Gold in the Last year, unlike those of you who frequent the forums and who have done so much to add to the game. I'd rather see that happen and wait an extra month on SEV, as would many who have bought the game recently.

Re: We Need Another Patch For SE IV.
I agree completely. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif Now all we have to do is convince Aaron to spend a few hours on an update for us. $$$$$$
|
Re: We Need Another Patch For SE IV.
the problem would be if "a few hours" are not enough to fix de bugs....
because if to "fix" some bug you would need to re-write huge chubks of code, it would be very impractical... I notice that the majority of the bugs are related to the AI, but how can Aaron "fix" them if he need to practically re-write de AI? maybe would be a best course of action if Aaron, afeter finishing the AI coding of SEV, released a "patch" with the SEV AI "downgraded" for SEIV... If Aaron is coding SEV in a way so SEIV bugs dont "creep" in SEV, maybe parts os SEV code, after it is finished, could be used to make a final patch for SEIV that would fix the majority of the remaining bugs... just adding my 2 cents... |
Re: We Need Another Patch For SE IV.
Maybe he can find someone he trusts to take over the update process for him?

Re: We Need Another Patch For SE IV.
it'd be very difficult for someone to just walk in and start re-writing code, even if it was well documented, it'd be expensive too.

Re: We Need Another Patch For SE IV.
While I respect the opinion of Atrocites and others who have definately invested more into this game in time and resources then I have, I must say I don't want a patch.
Are things broken? Do the bugs exist? Yes. No doubts about it. Should they be reported? Yes. No doubts about it. Would I patch SEIV if a patch was released? Probably. Would I resent the time away from SEV? Yes. (though Aaron needs to take frequent refresher breaks to keep the mind clear- I understand that) My Point? Bugs should still be reported and then those reports used to make sure the same bugs do not occur in SEV. As great as SEIV is, I know deep in my gaming soul that SEV will be that much better and I would rather let Aaron continue with his train of thought on SEV then break modes and have to re-think in SEIV. I also would not want him to hire it out because.. point blank - I probably wouldn't pay for an update for SEIV at this point which means he would lose money and he doesn't need to do that. I want more games from him, not less because he is running low on funds. Rasorow |
Re: We Need Another Patch For SE IV.
I got way more than my moneys worth out of SE IV. Sure I'd like to see another patch, but not if SE V is delayed because of it. Since Malfador is a one man shop it's probably one or the other.
|
Re: We Need Another Patch For SE IV.
Well, once SEV is released, it won't be very important to me whether Aaron makes a final patch for SEIV, as I will be busy playing SEV. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
