Space Empires Websites

Greetings.

As an operator of a Space Empires website, I'm curious to see what the web browsing habits of the community are. So I've put together this informal poll to see what you guys like.

If you haven't really browsed any SE:IV community sites, then Atrocities has compiled a list of starter sites to look at here: Some SE:IV Websites

Feel free to post comments about sites you like and the poll questions, or even plug your own SE:IV website.

Just a minor clarification, don't count Shrapnel in your responses - that's a given. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

I visit Malfador every once and a while...Does that count? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

Other than this one, I'm over at se.net all the time. I have Malfador's news page sync'd to my palm so I can check for updates there anytime.

Re: Space Empires Websites

I check at least one SE site every day. Se.net, Kwok Depot, NASY, Malfador, SOTA Yards, etc. I am always on the lookout for new content and information. That is pretty ironic seeing how I haven't found the time to update my own site in months. Not that I have anything to put up for that matter. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/redface.gif

Re: Space Empires Websites

A complete list of available sites would be nice, but mainly I visit SE.net, SpaceFood, NASY, and tesco's site once or twice every three days or so.

Umm... that link points to your FQM thread over on SE.net...

The Web Links section of SE.net lists most of the sites out there... anyone can submit a new site link to it at any time.

Bumpity bump bump.

Fixed the link too. It was a case of bad cut and paste.

Re: Space Empires Websites

Fyron, you should excise the broken links from your directory at SE.net. I even reported a bunch of them for you to help you get started. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

Re: Space Empires Websites

As I have told you many times, several of those are in there for historical purposes, and their descriptions state as such...

Re: Space Empires Websites

Every so often, about two or three times a month, I check Malfador's site, Fyron's site, Tesco's site, and Trooper's site. Occasionally, I look at some other sites too.

Re: Space Empires Websites

Thanks to all the members who responded in the poll. I'm going to take some of your suggestions and apply them to my own Space Empires website as soon as this semester is over. I'll likely start with adding some Mod summaries and reviews, plus a few modding tutorials.

I'm also hoping to get my own domain space, so I'll be able to host downloads as well. This is espeically important since a certain Space Food Empires mod is almost ready for some beta testing. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...ies/tongue.gif

Sigh...my Ratings site never gets mentioned... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Guess it isn't a "mainstream" sort of site.

Re: Space Empires Websites

Sure it does. I even made a specific news item at my site to plug both your Ratings site and KOTH. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/eek.gif

I guess I was referring to the link at the beginning which listed all the sites associated with SE4 (that Atrocities listed).

Re: Space Empires Websites

Wow! Your site is loaded, Kwok!

The navigation works very well (except for clicking the PBW games you are in). I should have a "steady" link bar of sorts on my site(s) as I don't like people to have to scroll to get to the buttons (but I'm too lazy http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/yawn.gif).

Your "graveyard" ships look quite nice! I (also) don't have the patience for shipsets (nor, possibly, the imagination).

Re: Space Empires Websites

Oh, and I submitted a news item to see how well it worked ( http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/redface.gif ).

Fyron December 3rd, 2004 06:31 PM

Re: Space Empires Websites

Might I suggest a fancy navigation menu instead? Side panels are so 1994... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif just kidding. But anyways...

http://www.brainjar.com/dhtml/menubar/

It is really easy to configure, and you get fancy menus like I have on SpaceEmpires.net... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif

Re: Space Empires Websites

I see that's not a trivial piece of coding there, Fyron. Thanks for the site.

Fyron December 3rd, 2004 09:16 PM

Re: Space Empires Websites

Complicated indeed. The easiest method is to copy the source of one of the demos. Just modify the divs and such defining the menu's parts as needed. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif It is available under the GNU GPL, so it is free to use (as long as you don't remove the copyright and licensing info):

You're news item has been posted Slynky. In fact, it's just the second time that someone has used my news submission forum in the Last year and a half! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/eek.gif

Adding the game links in my pbw section is a good idea. I don't know why I never thought of that. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif

I like to scan around and find threads of you guys discussing your tactics. Some of the things in game that you guys take for granted are gems of knowledge for part time players like myself.
