transfering a game?

I need to know if I can transfer a game I've been playing on my desktop to my laptop. I don't want to strt a new one again... lol I have a savegame, and an empire save. Can it be done? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/eek.gif

Re: transfering a game?

All you need are the savegame files. They have the name that you saved the game as. There will be .log, .gam, and .cmb files that you will want to copy over. You might want the text files associated with the game, if you are keeping track of the history or stats files... If you do not mind being unable to play the combat log and/or movement log for the current turn, this is all you need to do. If you want to play the logs, you will need to copy the appropriate files from the SE4\Temp folder on your desktop PC to the SE4\Temp folder on the laptob.

Just copy the appropriate files (.gam, .cmb, possible player stats files) from the /savegame directory to the same directory on your laptop.

Re: transfering a game?

The .GAM file is all you really need.

Bring along the other files in the savegame dir with similar prefixes on their names if you want to see the combat replays, and bar graphs and such.

The EMP file means nothing unless you want to start a new game with the same race.

Dump the savegame files into the new savegame folder, and fire 'er up.

Heh, reminds me of a Dom2 MP game. Three people claimed the nation of Jotunheim at the same time on the forum. Luckily, I was first.

Heh, awsome. I played it safe and copied it all over. lol (USB 2.0 pen drive, and front USB 2.0 ports... you gotta love it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/cool.gif) Ok, so now... Fillosafy (Yes, yes. I know, thats not how you spell. Not even close, but why not do it this way? Ehh???) Heh... I got all into it on that thread about beautiful things. lol

Re: transfering a game?

Hmm... I copied the text files (events, stats), the .GAM file, and .CMB. Put them into the savegame folder in the laptop, ran seiv hit load, then the savegame name. It says "unable to load savegame file c:\PF\SG\MM\savegame\BAH..gam" (SG = shrapnel games, etc.) Any ideas?

Re: transfering a game?

Are both installs of SE4 patched to the same Version? 1.91 preferably...

Re: transfering a game?

Did you happen to modify the data files in either Version? Generally, you want to leave the stock data files alone and always work in a mod folder, in part precisely because of this...

Re: transfering a game?

I did. I modded the techarea file on the laptop to include an un-lucky advanced trait. in addition to a few other files... can you email me the .txt files in the data folder that are un-modded? (karatekid88>AT<bellsouth.net)
