New(b) game: Borrowed time -*Running*-

Being impatient I have taken finding a game into my own hands. Just long enough to put the game in reverend's hands. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...es/biggrin.gif

Seriosly though, this is my first dom2 mp game. Reverend is hosting though and I'll listen to the voice of experience so it shouldn't be a problem.

I was thinking these settings:
- Map: Zen's cradle
Found here:
http://www.techno-mage.com/~zen/zencradle.zip
Unzip in maps directory. Use with cradle.tga found here:
http://ulm.illwinter.com/dom2/cradle.zip

- Players: See below.
- Hosting: starting 24qh, later 48qh
- Victory condition: One vp per capital + 6 free vp's. 9 needed for win.
- Indies: 9
- Sites: 45
- HoF: 15
- Research: Very difficult
- Graphs: On
- Renaming: On
- Rest default

- Clams, fever fetishes, soulcontracts, vampirelords Banned. You may have no more than 5 Bloodstones.

Players:

ckfnpku .......... Marignon
Legacyspy ........ Man
Leblanc .......... Machaka
The_taurent13 .... C'tis
Nappa ............ Pangea
RonD ............. Pythium
rex_havoc ........ Caelum
rylen ............ Abysia

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

Pick me pick me pick me. Yayayayayayayay ckfnpku. Your are my god. I would really like to join, this would be my first multigame. I would like to take man.

Leblanc December 4th, 2004 07:42 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

Ive been wanting to try out mp.
Id like Machaka.

The_Tauren13 December 4th, 2004 08:00 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

I'll take C'tis.

I would prefer to either ban these outright or to have no limit. It is not only difficult to enforce, but with a numerical limit it might be a pain to keep track of how many clams you have, and to not forget and accidentally go over the limit.

Karan is horribly overplayed, and not even that great of a map (it’s in dire need of some nostarts, for one thing). How about Inland? Only problem with Inland is that there is very little water. Or maybe it's not a problem; there should be enough for one water nation. If not, I would also like to suggest Cradle; I've never played it but it looks pretty good.

VPs are fine, but I would prefer only 50% for victory.

Could we go with just 35 sites?

I vote for graphs on.

Edit:
I just realized I might not be what you consider a New(b). I have completed 4 MP games, but in 3 of them I died quickly and utterly. I currently have 2 ongoing games.

Nappa December 4th, 2004 08:18 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

I'll take Pangaea. I've finished one MP game and I'm at turn 17 in my 2nd MP game.

I'm still a newb.

I vote for no clams/fetishes/contracts/vampire lords etc.

The_Tauren13 December 4th, 2004 08:38 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

What about blood stones, wraith lords, draconians, and call of the wild? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif

RonD December 4th, 2004 08:48 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

I'll sign up as Pythium.

Any mods? Zen pretenders, Zen spell mod?

Legacyspy December 4th, 2004 10:19 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

Can some one tell me where I can DL cradle?. And I too would prefer not play on Karan. I do care if theres a limit on the above things or there is, cause I never use them as man.

archaeolept December 4th, 2004 10:29 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

I'd use zen's modified cradle - its not such a barren impassible wasteland as the default Version.

Nice to see people like it http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/happy.gif reverend is your god though I think.

I don't particularly care if you are newb or not, whatever. Play and have fun I say.

Ok, so let's do cradle, zen's Version.

You people also seem to dislike hoarding. Good. We could ban the clams, fetishes, soul contracts. Bloodstones, I am uncomfortable banning since they are useful for the +1 earth. Limit 5 bloodstones? Vampirelords are tricky, I think. But we could make it simple on ourselves and ban them, sure. Other stuff, not worth the bother of restricting, I think.

No zen's mods or other mods, unless a lot of people want them. I'd like to play the game fairly 'au naturele' once before playing modded.

I'll update the first post as we go along, to incorporate what people want.

Oh, zen's Version is the PhilD fixed map or what?

reverend December 5th, 2004 01:00 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

Do you have a link to Zen's cradle? I have the standard cradle but not the modified one.

Legacyspy December 5th, 2004 01:13 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

Where do I get both cradles, and No MODS cause I want my first multiplayer game to be ncie and Pure.

ckfnpku December 5th, 2004 01:15 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

Here is the map file. It uses the same image file as the regular cradle of dominion, so just unzip this file in the mapdirectory:

http://www.techno-mage.com/~zen/zencradle.zip

Use with cradle.tga found here:
http://ulm.illwinter.com/dom2/cradle.zip

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

Thank you.

The_Tauren13 December 5th, 2004 01:29 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

I don't think blood stones are worthy of restriction. They are nearly impossibly to hoard like clams or vamps.

Leblanc December 5th, 2004 07:54 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

as a complete newb Id be for having graphs on just so I could have some idea of how I was stacking up against other (better) players. Im certainly not good enough to be able to abuse that information and it would be very instructive for me.

Legacyspy December 5th, 2004 10:00 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

I do not care graphs or no graph.

ckfnpku December 6th, 2004 02:52 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

Blerk. Bad humour and whining removed. Exhaustion makes for wierdness.

ckfnpku December 7th, 2004 12:27 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

Since I will play R'lyeh in Fools Lament III I'll play Marignon here instead.

ckfnpku December 8th, 2004 07:09 AM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

As there doesn't seem to be any other people interested in this game we should probably choose a smaller map. We can then wait for one or 2 more players or start anyways this weekend.
Cirlani, Yalun-To and Parganos all look nice, though all have a fair share of water and there are no water nations signed up yet. Out of those Parganos is the best looking so that is my proposal.

rex_havok December 8th, 2004 12:25 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

may i join as calium

ckfnpku December 8th, 2004 01:04 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

Sure.

Cainehill December 8th, 2004 02:30 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

You might want to avoid Yalun-To : the northwest section of the landmass is only accessable via water provinces, and there was also a single province (#45) that is the single access point between the east and west halves of the lower section of the map.

While this does lead to some interesting strategic considerations, it can also be extremely frustrating for players who wind up in the wrong spot.

rex_havok December 9th, 2004 01:49 AM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

Map: Zen's cradle
- Sites: 45, 35 suggested, bring yer input
- Graphs: On?
- Vp's: Something

- Clams, fetishes, soulcontracts, vampirelords Banned. 5 bloodstones?

i vote for higher magic sites (at lest 45) otherwise i think it makes blood magic overpowering. you can always find blood and w/ low sites its the way to go.
graphs on.
and i don't mind some clams and fetishes. limit 10-15. its not a big deal to me (but not unlimited that looks like to much work for me).
?the vp quicker game at 60% or need to be the only one 70-80
(i think the 70% would force the winner to be very dominant but at 60 it could be a "quick kill")
perhaps we should ask the old masters this question then have newbes like me guessing.

ckfnpku December 9th, 2004 07:41 AM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

Well, I thought abit about that, with the vp's. At first I thought, 51% for win, that way he who had 51% was bigger than all the other nations together. However, they are still evenly matched. With 60% for the winner he has 50% more vp's, signifying 50% more power than all the remaining nations. That's an overwhelming lead.

deccan December 9th, 2004 08:19 AM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

Be careful with a VP win condition, it might happen sooner than you think. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/wink.gif I'd suggest setting the VP count higher.

reverend December 9th, 2004 10:26 AM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

Keep in mind that "VP needed for win" isn't a percentage. It's a fixed number. So better first figure out how many VPs overall should be available, then decide how many of them are needed to win the game.

rylen December 9th, 2004 07:24 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

I'd like to join ya'll for my second MP game. Even with the soul contract restriction, I'd like to take Abyssia.

Rylen

The Panther December 9th, 2004 08:17 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

60% VPs is an excellent choice. Anybody who has that many already has the game won anyway. It prevents the game from dragging out beyond the fun point (which often happens on games with standard victory setting). Games without a victory setting tend to never actually finish.

Just be very careful when selecting the proper VP number to win. If you check the one-per-capitol box, you must add one VP per player to the total of all the others or you will end up with too low a winning number hard coded into the game.

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

I have updated the game post and asked reverend to start the server for uploading. So we should be able to start soon. He will post ip and so on.

ckfnpku December 10th, 2004 11:03 AM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

About map. I proposed we switch to Parganos, but this didn't seem to get any support. So we do Zen's Cradle. With no water nations it is not quite as huge as it might be.

reverend December 11th, 2004 09:47 AM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

Server is up and ready for your pretenders.

IP www.pnd-clan.de
Port 31430

As soon as all pretenders are uploaded I'll restart the server and you can start the game.

Leblanc December 11th, 2004 02:19 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

ehhh...
I accidentally clicked Tien Chi when I was tring to upload my pretender, so Ive got pretenders in Tien Chi and Machaka. Sorry bout that. Is there any way I can delete my Tien Chi pretender before the game starts?

reverend December 11th, 2004 02:54 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

No, the Tien Chi player has to re-upload his pretender.

This is a known "problem" with Dom2, I hope there will be a better way of controlling upload in Dom3.

ckfnpku December 12th, 2004 09:29 AM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

There is no Tien Chi player though. I guess the server will need to be restarted.

Edit: Nope, no restart.

reverend December 12th, 2004 10:25 AM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

At least not if Dom2 works like I think it does. Deleting the tienchi.2h file SHOULD have removed the pretender (and therefore nation) from the game, right?

Anyway, I'll make a backup of all the pretenders before we start the game, that way a restart takes less time should one be necessary.

rylen December 12th, 2004 09:50 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

Not to be impatient, but when do we start?

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

Will we use the new patch?

reverend December 17th, 2004 03:41 AM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

Yes, I will install the 2.15 patch, probably on saturday so that everybody had the chance to install it first. If you already patched, you should be able to do your turns with the new Version. The only problem might be incorrect battle replays.

reverend December 18th, 2004 07:14 PM

Re: New(b) game: Borrowed time

Server now running 2.15.

Sucky. That's a handsome pile of gold. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/smilies/frown.gif

Our spaniard army wasn't obliterated at the recent demise at least. Bloody conjurers spamming imps eating up my decoys.
But looking at the graphs, seems many of us have had setbacks, though not that costly.

Hehe, new turn has been up 2 hours and only one player (Man) hasn't done his turn. That's speedy.

Hey, I just did my turn, right when I got home from school. I check for new turns, each night/when i get home from school and inbetween those too. On weekends I am endlessly connecting.
